The Universal Energy Field

Prana, the Universal Energy Field

Everything has an energy field around it that looks somewhat like the light from a candle. I also began to notice that everything was connected by these energy fields, that no space existed without an energy field.. Everything, including me, was living in a sea of energy. . . .

We normally identify ourselves as a body (the wax and wick) with consciousness (the flame). When we enter a state of expanded consciousness, we perceive ourselves also as the light coming from the flame. (Brennan 5-6)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Brennan (HoL) states that Prana and Ch’i are equivalent to the Universal Energy Field.

Ancient Indian spiritual tradition, over 5,000 years old, speaks of a universal energy called Prana. This universal energy is seen as the basic constituent and source of all life. Prana, the breath of life, moves through all forms and gave them life. (Brennan 29)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Prana is vitality, the integrating energy that co-ordinates the physical molecules and holds them together in a definite organism; it is the life-breath within the organism, the portion of the universal Life-Breath. (Besant 9-10)DAclairvoyant • Theosophy • Besant

The Chinese, in the 3rd millennium B.C., posited the existence of a vital energy which they called Ch’i. All matter, animate and inanimate, is composed of and pervaded with this universal energy. (Brennan 29)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

The bioenergy which runs the extremely complex mechanism of the human body and provides the fuel for thought is not split up into compartments or currents acting independently of each other. It is one homogeneous whole, performing all the functions of the body from the movement of a muscle to the highest flight of thought. It is a medium . . . working in a hundred ways, with varied speeds, varied spectrums and varied material to perform the almost limitless functions of the body. But the energy is basically one, capable of assuming any pattern or any speed to suit every situation. This means . . . that prana assumes one form for digestive activity, another for the circulation of the blood, yet another for the movement of the muscles. . . . It is an incredible stuff which can manipulate atoms and molecules in any conceivable way. (Krishna 20)

Prana [is] a medium for the activity of thought and transference of sensations and impulses in living organisms. . . . Prana is not matter, nor is it mind or intelligence or consciousness, but rather an inseparable part of the cosmic energy or Shakti, which resides in all of them. . . . It is the medium by which the cosmic intelligence . . . creates, maintains, and destroys the gigantic globular formations burning ceaselessly in space as well as the tiny bacteria . . . filling every part of the earth. (Krishna 197)

Prana . . . is essentially a part of [reality], assuming different shapes and appearances, entering into countless types of formations, building persistently the units or bricks to create the complicated organic structures in the same way that physical energy starts with electrons, protons, neutrons, and atoms to raise the mighty edifice of the universe, all its activity governed by eternal laws as rigid and universal as the laws which rule the physical world. . . .

While remaining constant and unaltered fundamentally, it enters into countless combinations, acting both as the architect and the object produced. It exists as a mighty universe, vaster and more wonderful than the cosmos perceived by our senses, with its own spheres and planes corresponding to the suns and earths of the latter, its own materials and bricks, it own movement and inertia, its own light and shadow, laws, and properties, existing side by side with the universe we see, interwoven with our thoughts and actions, interpenetrating the atoms and molecules of matter, radiating with light, moving with wind and tide, marvelously subtle and agile, the stuff of our fancies and dreams, the life principle of creation, which is woven inextricably with the very texture of our being. . . .

The owners of the bodies, even the most intelligent and perceptive, know nothing of what is happening in them, know nothing of intelligence which regulates the body machine, which builds it in the womb, preserves it in illness, sustains it in danger, heals it when injured, cares for it when asleep or delirious or unconscious, creates urges and tendencies which move and sway them as wind does a reed. . . .

After doing each and everything, even to the extent of drawing the breath and inducing the thoughts, because of its own marvelous and . . . absolutely incomprehensible nature, it keeps itself always behind the scenes, allowing the surface consciousness, which it maintains as oil does a flame, to think and act as the master. (Krishna 199-200)LWKmeditator • Hinduism • Krishna

Being that it has its own spheres and planes, that it is the energy of thought, this must also be the energy behind the etheric, astral, and mental realms, the universal conscious light that flows from the Source.

James provides an in-depth description in “The Nature of Universal Conscious Light” in planes-of-consciousness.php.

This also appears to be the same as Seth’s CUs (Consciousness Units) or EE (Electromagnetic Energy) units. Those are also foundational and intelligent universal building blocks.

See “How Consciousness Forms Physical Matter” in physical-multiverse.php.

An Organizing Intelligence

[The UEF] NOTE: universal energy field is the opposite of entropy, a term used to describe the phenomenon of the slow decay that we so commonly observe in physical reality, the breaking down of form and order. The HEF NOTE: human energy field has an organizing effect on matter and builds forms. (Brennan 40)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Prana . . . brings into existence the marvelous domain of life . . . acting intelligently and purposefully with full knowledge of the laws and properties of matter. (Krishna 199)

Prana is present in atoms and their constituents. . . . Prana is possessed of a superhuman intelligence and memory, beyond the range of our thought. (Krishna 367)LWKmeditator • Hinduism • Krishna

Appearance of the Universal Energy Field

When the Universal Energy Field is flowing through a living thing, it is perceived as an aura. But it can be seen directly in the space around us as well:

The easiest way to begin to observe the universal energy field is to simply relax on your back in the grass on a nice sunny day and gaze at the blue sky. After some time you will be able to see the tiny globules of orgone NOTE: a hypothetical universal energy making squiggly patterns against the blue sky. They seem to be tiny white balls, sometimes with a black spot, that appear for a second or two, leave a slight trail mark, and the disappear again. When you continue this observation and expand your vision, you will begin to see that the whole field pulsates in a synchronized rhythm. On sunny days these tiny balls of energy will be bright and move fast. On cloudy days they will be more translucent, move slowly and be fewer in number. In a smoggy city they are fewer, dark, and very slow moving. . . . Apparently sunlight charges the globules.

Now shift your gaze to the edge of treetops against the blue sky. You may see a green haze around the trees. Curiously, you may also notice that there are no globules in this haze. But if you look closer, you will see the globules at the edge of the green haze changing their squiggly pattern and flowing into the aura of the tree, where they disappear. Apparently the tree’s aura is absorbing the tiny globules. The green around the trees appears in the leafing stage, during spring and summer. Earlier in the spring, the aura of most trees has a pink-reddish hue, similar to the color of the red buds of the trees. (Brennan 37-38)

Visual observations reveal the field to be highly organized in a series of geometric points, isolated pulsating points of light, spirals, webs of lines, sparks and clouds. (Brennan 37-38)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

The vitality globule, though inconceivably minute, is so brilliant that it is often seen even by those who are not in the ordinary sense clairvoyant. Many a man, looking out towards the distant horizon, especially over the sea, will notice against the sky a number of the tiniest possible points of light dashing about in all directions with amazing rapidity. These are the vitality globules, each consisting of seven physical atoms. . . . Specks charged with that force the Hindus call prana. . . .

It is almost colourless, and shines with a white or slightly golden light. (Leadbeater 53)

In brilliant sunshine this vitality is constantly welling up afresh. . . . During the night . . . the operation is entirely suspended.

Sunlight is one of the most important factors in the attainment and preservation of perfect health. (Leadbeater 45-47)Cclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

As [the force] NOTE: prana exists around us in the atmosphere, it clothes itself in millions of tiny particles which are colorless though intensely active. (Leadbeater 113)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The first object of perception is prana, experienced as a lustrous, immaterial stuff, sentient and in a state of rapid vibration both within and outside the body, extending boundlessly on every side. (Krishna 199)LWKmeditator • Hinduism • Krishna

Where Prana Comes From

I would think that it would be a universal quality of physical matter, or even a universal energy behind all frequency domains, but it’s said to be related to sunlight:

The subtle prana that feeds kundalini is obtained from both food and air. (Krishna 165)

The earth has its own supply of prana, pervading every atom and every molecule of all the elements and compounds. . . . The sun . . . is constantly pouring an enormous supply of pranic radiation on the earth as a part of its effulgence. (Krishna 195)LWKmeditator • Hinduism • Krishna

This vital force is poured upon us from the sun. . . . The earth’s atmosphere is full of this force at all times; though it is in special activity in brilliant sunlight. (Leadbeater 113)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Anyone who has developed the psychic faculties . . . will see the solar life-principle NOTE: prana almost colourless, though intensely luminous and active, which is constantly poured into the earth’s atmosphere by the sun. (Leadbeater 7)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

How We Metabolize Energy

The sea of energy in each frequency domain flows into us through the holes our reincarnating self punched through on its way outward into lower frequencies. This fluid energy forms vortexes that flow into these openings, just as water forms a vortex when flowing out of a drain. This more or less constant flow (the ever-changing size of these openings are up to us) is what energizes us. The vortical flow across the openings in different frequency domains constitute the chakras. These are actually nested, though in the physical they appear spread out across the body.

Referring to the chakras:

All these wheels are perpetually rotating, and into the hub or open mouth of each a force from the higher world is always flowing . . . which we call the primary force. That force is sevenfold in its nature, and all its forms operate in each of these centres, although one of them in each case usually predominates over the others. . . . In a more evolved man . . . an enormously greater amount of energy passes through them, with the result that there are additional faculties and possibilities open to the man. (Leadbeater 5)

The first and second chakras, having but few spokes or petals, are principally concerned with receiving into the body two forces which come into it at that physical level—one being the serpent-fire from the earth and the other the vitality from the sun. . . . 3, 4, and 5 are engaged with the forces which reach man through his personality—through the lower astral in the case of centre 3, the higher astral in centre 4, and from the lower mind in centre 5. . . . Centres 6 and 7 stand apart from the rest, being connected with the pituitary body and the pineal gland, respectively. (Leadbeater 10)Cclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Leadbeater’s mental plane is the upper astral by most other accounts. In this case, that would mean that chakras 3-7 are various levels of the astral plane.

None of the vital bodies NOTE: energy bodies . . . can create the force which operates through them; they are but its distributors, rectifiers, transformers; the complicated mechanical arrangements hat (sic) the energy of life works through and upon. . . .

The physical body itself cannot even hold the energy of life, that energy being held in the astral condenser, and poured through the physical. . . .

The energy you are using is cosmic, present everywhere. . . . It is not created by you, but is attracted by you and condensed in your astral body. (Muldoon 142-143)

Another common belief is that we “burn up” our energy. But what we really do is “externalize our energy”. . . .

Fear externalizes the neuric energy from the astral body. . . . Energy is omnipresent and indestructible; it is not created, nor is it burned up, it is internalized and externalized, and it is condensed in the astral body.

When projected in the astral body, and conscious, one can observe this neuric energy; that is, he can see its colour and condensation in the bodies of others. It is luminous, like white light. It is this energy which gives the astral body its phosphorescent appearance. . . .

Although the glow of the neuric energy can be seen throughout the entire body, it is condensed mostly in the centre of the body. It is very luminous in the center of the body—at the solar plexus region. . . .

It is my belief, from astral observation, that the great store-house of condensed energy in the human being is located at the solar plexus region. . . . We always feel the effects of fear in the solar plexus. . . .

Consciousness (merely being awake) uses up NOTE: externalizes energy, just as exertion uses it up. . . . Unconsciousness is necessary in order to reap the full benefit of the recharging.

If you project the astral and retain consciousness all the time, you will not recharge the astral body. . . . I have noticed many times that, after experiencing an entirely conscious projection, I felt still enervated NOTE: drained upon recoinciding with the physical—in fact more so. . . . It is very common to experience a “dog-tired” feeling after an exteriorization NOTE: projection that has been conscious, accompanied by a headache in the back of the head. (Muldoon 150-152)PotABOBEr • Spiritualism • Muldoon

Our dream self is always conscious in the dream state, so it must be that bringing the physical self along that uses up this energy.

The energy bodies are our individual interface with the flow from the Source and the seas of energy around us in each frequency domain. Fear and resistance close us to the flow, and cuts off our energy source. Love, curiosity, and play open us to the flow, energizing us.

Spiritually, we are almost like beings of air, inflating or deflating with energy as we variably open and close ourselves to the flow in response to our experiences. A feeling of expansion results from filling up with more and more energy.

As soon as certain measures of success are attained in meditation . . . a greater demand for [the life energy] is felt. . . .

With the additional fuel . . . the surface consciousness rises above bodily sensations and its perceptive faculty is vastly enlarged, rendering it cognizant of super-physical existences. (Krishna 198)LWKmeditator • Hinduism • Krishna

For how the etheric body absorbs prana and distributes it to the physical, see “Absorbing and Distributing Prana” below.

Change Begins Higher up the Stream

This is a universal law of the microgeny. All change begins further up the stream before manifesting on levels further down. Those levels are derived from the higher ones. The aura shows the levels higher than our physical body.

Any changes in the material world are preceded by a change in [the UEF] NOTE: universal energy field. (Brennan 40)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Diane insisted that this was not precognition. The energy web or [energy] body showed the condition clearly many months before it became apparent in the physical body. (Karagulla 127)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

Physical changes are preceded by changes in this field, which is up the stream from the physical. The physical is derived from it. We can see what’s coming by looking at the shape of things we’ve moving towards. On a larger scale, a social movement may be shaping things from within before it emerges through us into the physical. Slightly closer to the microgeny, we can see what the future might look like in the coming months and years.

Entropy (disorder) is watching old organizations become new organizations without yet seeing the new.

The Aura

The aura has a level for each energy body. The following descriptions of the aura either include all levels together, or don’t specify the level. Level-specific descriptions can be found below in “The Etheric Aura” and “The Astral Aura”.

The Nature of the Aura

[The aura] is the “place” where all the emotions, thoughts, memories and behavior patterns . . . are located. (Brennan 89)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

The ether body NOTE: etheric body as a life form fills out the physical body, and beyond the ether body we can distinguish the soul body or astral form projecting outward on all sides. Extending beyond this is the sentient soul, and then the mind soul that grows ever larger as it takes in ever more of the true and the good. If people lived solely out of their own inclinations, likes and dislikes, the boundaries of their mind souls would coincide with those of their sentient souls.

This formation, in the midst of which the physical body can be seen as if in a cloud, can be called the human aura. (Steiner 46-47)

The “I” gains an ever-increasing mastery over body and soul, and this is expressed in a person’s aura. The greater the mastery, the more differentiated, complex and richly colored the aura becomes. (Steiner 49)Tclairvoyant • Theosophy • Steiner

Steiner states that the higher soul “grows ever larger as it takes in ever more of the true and the good”. This is because it is functioning at a higher frequency. Being open to that degree allows perceptions at that frequency, filling it, expanding it. In addition, reality at that level is less constrained by physical space, and thus higher frequencies of the aura appear progressively larger. The higher rate of flow, the further the expansion.

Individual Fields in a Universal Field

Is the aura the same as the energy body itself? Each higher body is larger than the one below, extending out further.

We are only justified in referring to the life energies, feelings, and thoughts associated with every individual as “fields” if we hold them to be special instances or intensifications of universal fields in which all life participates. (A field may be generally defined as a continuous condition of space.) (Karagulla and Kunz 27)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Produced by Chakras

As it spins, each chakra produces its own electromagnetic field. This field then combines with fields generated by other chakras to produce the auric field. (Bruyere 61)WoLclairvoyant • modern • Bruyere

Appearance of the Aura

The aura contains an ever-changing display of colors, shapes, and forms. These are due to the effect of our thoughts and feelings. The pure white light of consciousness passes through whatever past experience we’re focusing on, like a projector through a colored slide, projecting the related emotional colors, mental shapes, and physical forms into our aura.

Just like the higher spiritual worlds, the layers of the aura occupy the same space at different frequencies. We must tune into each layer into in order to see it.

Many cultures believe the aura of an extremely spiritual individual is so bright it is visible even to normal human perception. . . . The great Sufi mystic Hazrat Inayat Khan, who died in 1927, is said to have sometimes given off so much light that people could actually read by it. . . .

The first time I saw the distinctive mist of light around my arm I thought it was smoke and jerked my arm up to see if I had somehow caught my sleeve on fire. (Talbot 165-166)

[Dryer] experiences [auras] as changing textures and intensities of visual sensation. She compares this to being immersed in the ocean and feeling water of different temperatures wash by. . . . “I tend to see the energy field in terms of movements and waves of energy,” she says. “It’s as if my vision is telescoping through various levels and dimensions of the energy field, but I don’t actually see it neatly arranged in various layers.” (Talbot 170)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

Put the plant under bright lights with a dark background behind it. You may see lines of blue-green flashing up the plant along the leaves in the direction of growth. They will suddenly flash; then the color slowly fades, only to flash again, perhaps on the opposite side of the plant. These lines will react to your hand, or a piece of crystal, if you bring them near the aura of the plant. As you draw the crystal away from the plant, you will see the aura of the plant and the aura of the crystal stretch to maintain contact. They pull like taffy. . . .

I observed the aura of the leaf. It was a simple aqua-blue. When I cut the leaf, the aura of the entire leaf turned a bloody maroon. . . . When the aqua-blue color reestablished itself in a minute or two, it showed definite signs of the missing part, but not as clearly as I have seen on the Kirlian photographs.

Inanimate objects also have an aura. Most personal objects become imbued with the energy of the owner and radiate this energy. (Brennan 38-39)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Speed of Movement

The energy moved at a faster rate and was brighter than it appeared in the average person. Diane remarked that the subject had always been a person with a great deal of energy and vitality. (Karagulla 133)

When Sam is observing a speaker he sees wave motions emanating from the forehead of the individual. He is often aware of this in ordinary every day conversation. He finds with the slow thinker the waves are slower and with the quick thinker they are faster. To his observation a very clear thinker shows lines of force that are broad and smooth and terminate sharply. With individuals whose minds are off on tangents the wavelengths are closer together, thinner in outline and fade out gradually toward their termination. With the clear, focused thinker the energy radiations extend much further from the forehead than with the average person. (Karagulla 192)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

Pulsations

[The aura] has a dark bluish-purple or clear pulsating layer out to one quarter inch or as much as one and a half inches from the skin. It is constantly pulsating at the rate of about 15 pulses per minute. The pulsations usually form a wave-like motion down the arms, legs and torso. . . . The blue color generally turns to a yellow color around the head at about three to four inches in distance. There are usually streamers of the lighter blue coming off the fingertips and toes and out of the top of the head. (Brennan 89-90)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

This is about the speed and color of a Satori wave. This may be the same thing.

See “Satori” in into-dreams.php.

Brightening from Attention

Anytime the attention focuses on the now, it shines out brightly through the chakras into the aura.

Sensitives observe that certain activities, ideas or experiences seem to increase the inflow of energy into the field of a given individual. When an individual comes into the presence of a well-beloved person all three of his energy fields are intensely brightened. He appears to have more energy of a bright and scintillating quality in these fields. . . .

Some people show a brightened energy field under the stimulus of interesting intellectual conversation. In these cases it appears to be the mental field which first receives an inflow of energy and the effect spreads to the emotional and vital fields. . . .

Some people achieve an access of energy observable in the brightening of their energy fields from being out on the ocean or in the forest or from art or music or creative work. (Karagulla 159-161)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

The Energy Bodies

The Flow into Frequency Domains

As the flow from the Source passes through us into each frequency domain, it gathers around itself an energy body in that frequency domain. This is matter of that plane that allows us to respond to and express signals within that plane, just as a physical body allows us to perceive and express ourself in the physical. This also forms a more or less separate individuality with its own plane-specific memory.

See “The Flow into Us” in flow-into-us.php.

Necessity of Bodies

A body is a separation which forms the basis of individuality. It is what forms the limits of the self and separates us from the rest of reality. At each higher frequency domain, that separation is less defined — our selves are less limited, more fluid and open to the rest of life.

We cling with such passion to our individual self, not realizing that that separation is what makes us small and limited. Our lack of connection and lack of knowledge is what causes us to make mistakes and suffer.

Importantly, each body also contains its own memory, which provides the continuity of self within that body.

See also “The Nature of Individuality” in unity-of-consciousness.php.

Their individuality came from having separate bodies and separate spirits, but the light that was their most extraordinary attribute was the same. (Fenimore 118)BtDNDEr • modern • Fenimore

The Forms of Energy Bodies

It is only in the physical (and its energetic side, the etheric) that our bodies have a required form. In dreams and after death we often project the physical form we’re familiar with, but it is not needed. In our natural state, we are a point of consciousness.

In each frequency domain beyond the physical, our body consists of the matter that corresponds to that frequency drawn about us, which acts as a sense organ at that frequency.

The Seven Energy Bodies

Most often clairvoyants perceive 7 energy bodies of increasing subtlety. Clairvoyants often start out seeing only the lower-frequency bodies closer to the physical, and learn to see the higher bodies over time as they expand their abilities.

From the sources I’ve read, I find Barbara Brennan to have the most detailed, intricate view of the energy bodies and chakras:

I have observed seven layers. . . . At first I could only see the lower layers, which are the most dense and easiest to see. The longer I worked, the more layers I could perceive. The higher the layer, the more expanded my consciousness needed to be to perceive it. That is, in order to perceive the higher layers, like the fifth, sixth and seventh, I would have to enter into a meditative state, usually with eyes closed. . . .

Every other layer of the field is highly structured, like standing waves of light patterns, while the layers in between appear to be composed of colored fluids in constant motion. These fluids flow through the form set by the shimmering standing light waves. . . . The standing forms of light are themselves scintillating, as if they are composed of strings of many tiny, rapidly blinking lights, each blinking at a different rate. These standing light lines appear to have tiny charges moving along them.

Thus the first, third, fifth and seventh layer all have a definite structure, while the second, fourth and sixth are composed of fluid-like substances that have no particular structure. . . . Each succeeding layer interpenetrates completely all the layers under it, including the physical body. . . . Actually, each body is not a “layer” at all, although that is what we may perceive. It is, rather, a more expansive version of our self that carries within it the other, more limited forms. . . .

In order to perceive each consecutive level, the observer must move up in consciousness to each new frequency level. . . .

The structured layers contain all the forms that the physical body has, including internal organs, blood vessels, etc., and additional forms that the physical body does not contain. There is a vertical flow of energy that pulsates up and down the field in the spinal cord. It extends out beyond the coccyx. I call this the main vertical power current. There are swirling cone-shaped vortexes called chakras in the field. Their tips point into the main vertical power current, and their open ends extend to the edge of each layer of the field they are located in. (Brennan 42-43)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Each layer is a body, just as real, alive and functioning as is our physical body. Each body exists in a conscious reality that is in some ways like, and in some ways unlike, the physical reality. Each layer is, in a sense, in a world of its own, yet these worlds are interconnecting and exist immersed within the same space in which we experience our physical reality. (Brennan 137)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

There are seven lucid dream bodies known by Tantric traditions and by the Sufis of the Near East. These bodies . . . are known in a hierarchic order of spiritual awareness as the physical, the etheric, the astral, the mental, the spiritual, the cosmic and the nirvanic. Each dream body apparently dreams . . . within realms and territories specific to it. As the lucid dreamer gradually explores each level and approaches the nirvanic level, so the dream worlds take on greater and greater “reality.” (Godwin 93)LDerresearcher • modern • Godwin

The planes (or worlds) that correspond to each energy body are described in “The Planes of Consciousness” in planes-of-consciousness.php.

Within the Microgeny

In terms of the microgeny, the 7th and most expansive body precedes the 6th in order of creation from the flow, then the 5th, 4th, and so on to the physical. Each higher-frequency body forms the basis of the slower, more limited body that flows from it.

In the physically-oriented energy bodies, the mental shapes the emotional, which then shapes the physical.

The Physically-Oriented Energy Bodies

The last of the seven energy bodies are oriented towards physical incarnation. Many focus only on these physically-oriented bodies as they are most relevant to our current experience.

In my best understanding, and from my own limited observations, I would divide them into the following, starting at the broadest:

  1. The reincarnating self, where all physical incarnations are joined
  2. The dream self, expert at life in the astral
  3. The waking self, the personality we know, expert at physical life
  4. The physical body consciousness, independent of the waking self

In some 7-layer observations and traditions, the astral layer I refer to is divided into the astral and mental. This includes the Theosophical model, based on ancient Indian models. In the Theosophical model, the home of the reincarnating self is called the causal plane.

The Layers of Self (Seth)

Seth uses a variety of terms through his books. In the following he is talking about three parts of consciousness, though he is clear that there are no real divisions:

  1. The indivisible “soul”, “entity”, or “whole self”.
  2. The inward-looking self is the “inner ego”, the “inner self”, the “unconscious mind”, and the “subconscious” from the waking consciousness’s perspective.
  3. The physically-oriented consciousness is the “ego”, the “waking consciousness”, the “conscious mind”, and the “self”
  4. The physical body and its knowledge is the “body consciousness”

The ego NOTE: physically-oriented self is not the most powerful or the most knowledgeable portion of the self. It is simply a well-specialized part of the personality, fully equipped to operate under certain circumstances. . . . When those conditions no longer exist [after “death”], then other layers of the self take over the dominant position, and the personality realigns its psychological components. The ego does not disappear, however; it merely takes a back seat in some respects, as your own subconscious does during physical existence. (Roberts 717)UR2channeled • modern • Seth

I have experienced this phenomenon in detail in dreams. My dream self knows a great deal about navigating and living in the dream state, with its own bank of memories, but has a poor understanding of biological life. My consciousness usually hands the reins to the dream self while in the dream state, and the physical self in the waking state. In the dream state, my physical self rides along, contributing its own observations, and occasionally taking over focus.

It is the self that looks outward. . . . [The inner self] looks into that inner reality, that psychic dimension of awareness from which both your own consciousness and your body consciousness emerged. . . .

These portions, however, are intimately connected. They are like three different systems of consciousness operating together to form the whole. The divisions—the seeming divisions—are not stationary, but change constantly. . . .

These three systems of consciousness NOTE: inner self, waking consciousness, and body consciousness operate in one way or another in all of the species, and in all particles, in the physical universe. . . . The proportions of the three systems might vary, but they are always in operation. . . . The inner self represents your prime identity, the self you really are. (Roberts 199-200)DEVF1channeled • modern • Seth

Friedman summarized some of Seth’s writing on consciousness:

Seth says . . . the inner ego has access to a huge library of knowledge (the collective unconscious). . . .

The outer ego is spoonfed—given only that information, including feelings and emotions, that it can handle. This information is usually in the form of data picked up by the physical senses. . . .

[The conscious mind] can see into inner reality once it understands that it is possible to do so and rids itself of unnecessary limitations. . . .

A broader focus is available to the outer ego when and if the ego learns to handle it. . . .

The inner ego is itself a projection of a still higher consciousness. . . . To quote: . . . “There are no real divisions to the self.” (Friedman 117-120)BS&Sresearcher • modern • Friedman

Creation and Development of the Energy Bodies

From the first subtle levels of individuality closest to the Source, we pull around us matter of each frequency domain we pass through. These are the “bodies” that let us function on those levels, allowing us to send (express) and receive (perceive) signals at those frequencies. They are the veils around the brilliant light of the Source which is our foundational being.

The following descriptions come from Leadbeater and Besant in the Theosophical model. In this model, when we first enter into the causal plane, we are a new reincarnating self with no experience of the physical universe. We incarnate by traveling through the mental, astral, and then into a physical baby. Still shapeless and without any history, we are blown by the winds of fear and desire. At the end of the life, what we’ve experienced is eventually drawn back upward into the reincarnating self, and integrated into it.

This journey from the causal to the physical then repeats, each succeeding life building upon the distilled experience of the rest.

TO DO: Mark certain sections (Theosophy), and consider how much of this to keep.

Man is primarily divine, a spark of the Divine Life. This living flame, passing out from the Central Fire, weaves for itself coverings within which it dwells, and thus becomes. . . . Spirit, the reflection of the Immortal Self. This sends out its Nigel, which becomes encased in grosser matter, in the desire body NOTE: astral body . . . and in the etheric double and the physical body. The once free immortal Intelligence thus entangled, enswathed, enchained, works heavily and laboriously through the coatings that enwrap it. (Besant 18)DAclairvoyant • Theosophy • Besant

Creation of the Reincarnating Self

When this causal body is newly formed it is transparent yet iridescent, like a gigantic soap-bubble. . . . It also resembles the soap-bubble in being almost empty in appearance, for the divine force which is really contained within it has as yet had no time to develop its latent qualities by learning to vibrate in response to impacts from without, and consequently there is little color. What little there is comes because certain qualities have been already evolved within the group-soul of which that causal body previously formed a part. (Leadbeater 54)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

It is the possession of [a body] which constitutes individualization. . . . In the average unevolved man it is barely distinguishable at all . . . for it is a mere colorless film—just sufficient, apparently, to hold itself together and make a reincarnating individuality, but no more.

As soon, however, as the man begins to develop in spirituality, or even higher intellect . . . the real individual then begins to have a persisting character of his own, apart from that moulded in each of his personalities in turn by training and surrounding circumstances: and this character shows itself in the size, color, luminosity, and definiteness of the causal body. . . . This higher vehicle is naturally subtler and more beautiful. . . .

[The causal body] of an Adept is a magnificent sphere of living light. (Leadbeater 16)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Higher Frequencies Precede Attachments

[The causal body] NOTE: the reincarnating self happily differs from the bodies below it. . . . The worst of men can commonly show himself on that plane only as an entirely undeveloped entity; his vices, even though continued through life after life, cannot soil that higher sheath. (Leadbeater 16)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

At higher frequencies, the flow has not yet had the time to be projected out into physical forms. These frequencies are further up the stream, prior to the possibility of physical entanglements.

At each stage as we ascend we shall find that while the higher matter exhibits a splendid power of expression of the nobler qualities, it gradually loses the power to express some which are lower. . . .

A man may form a mental image which evokes sensual feeling in him, but the thought and the image will express themselves in astral matter, and not in mental. (Leadbeater 58-59)

The good action or thought produces its results upon these lower planes too, but in addition to that it has the immensely higher and permanent effect upon the causal body. (Leadbeater 61)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Creation of Physically-Oriented Bodies

From the level of the reincarnating self:

TO DO: Consider that Theosophy is a religion, oft-repeated but not experienced. Consider how much of this to keep.

Acharya: When the ego NOTE: the reincarnating self starts from the causal level for a new incarnation, he has to have one of each of these three bodies. . . . The least dense in texture is the mental body, and this the ego draws round himself from the matter of which the mental world is constructed. . . . The ego next draws round himself a slightly coarser vehicle, made of the matter of the astral world. This body is . . . on top of or outside the mental body, and the type of the body is again in accordance with the man’s emotional development. . . . A still coarser and denser body is now required. . . . A woman, with the assistance of a man, produces a child. . . . Owing to the density of the outside body, the physical, it is impossible to see the other two. (Richelieu 15)ASJOBEr • modern (Theosophy) • Richelieu

The soul puts himself down first into the matter of the lower levels of the mental NOTE: higher astral plane. Immediately, and in a certain sense automatically, a vesture NOTE: clothing of this matter is drawn round him, a vesture which is an exact expression of such qualities as already exist in him, so far at least as they can be expressed at that level. . . .

Each stage in the descent means submission to limitation. . . . Consequently no expression of the soul upon any lower level can ever be a perfect expression. . . . The true quality as it exists in the soul cannot be expressed in matter of any lower level; the vibrations of the lower matter are altogether too dull and sluggish to represent it. . . . It can, however correspond with it in a lower octave. (Leadbeater 57-58)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

When [the reincarnating ego] descends into the lower levels he must, in order to be able to function upon them, clothe himself in their matter. . . . Descending into the astral plane, he forms his astral or desire body out of its matter, though, of course, still retaining all the other bodies. (Leadbeater 11-12)

The astral matter has been gathered together by the descending ego . . . as he passed through the astral plane, and is, in fact, merely the development in that plane of tendencies whose seeds have been lying dormant in him during his experiences in the heaven-world, because on that level it was impossible that they could germinate for want of the grade of matter necessary for their expression. (Leadbeater 7)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Learning to Function in New Bodies

In [the monadic essence’s] downward course . . . it simply aggregates round itself the different kinds of matter on the various planes, evolving that matter by accustoming and adapting it to convey vibrations and impressions, and at the same time acquiring for itself the power to receive and respond readily to these impressions at their respective levels. But when it has reached the lowest point of its immersion in matter, and turns to begin the grand upward sweep of evolution towards divinity, its work then is somewhat different. Its object then is to develop its consciousness fully at these various levels, learning to control the bodies which it constructs from them, and to use them definitely as vehicles, so that they shall not only serve as bridges to carry impressions from without to the soul, but shall also enable that soul to express itself on their several planes through their instrumentality.

In this effort it naturally begins with the lowest matter, since its vibrations, though they are the largest and coarsest, are also the least powerful or penetrating and therefore the easiest to control. (Leadbeater 37-38)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Incarnation is a rapid descent in frequency. We simultaneously have a new mental and astral body as well as the new physical body to learn how to use.

In the broadest sense, the higher spiritual is diving into the lower, learning, and developing intelligent responses to various vibrational inputs such that it can gain experience and understanding and improve itself and the worlds where it finds itself. In this way the lower realms are evolved spiritually.

Just as children copy their parents and peers, the larger picture of learning is by experiencing something and then copying it. Imagine the soap bubble feeling a vibrational sensation, and then returning that same signal back. We then experience the results of these actions, and in time learn what works best.

The Development of Sensitivity

Having found ourselves now in three new bodies (the mental, astral, and physical), the physical is the most insistent and first to grab our attention. These signals overwhelm the more subtle frequencies until we learn how to manage them. As we grow, our sensitivity increases as well.

Evolution of consciousness takes place from below upward . . . the comparatively undeveloped majority of mankind are effectively conscious as yet only in the physical body. Their astral bodies are for the most part still shapeless and unorganized—bridges of communication indeed between the ego NOTE: reincarnating self and its physical vesture, and even vehicles for the reception of sensation, but in no sense as yet instruments in the hand of the real man or adequate expressions of his future powers on that plane. (Leadbeater 96)

In their earlier stages these undeveloped souls cannot feel the intensely rapid and piercing vibrations of the highly-refined matter of their own plane; the strong and coarse but comparatively slow movements of the heavier matter of the physical plane are the only ones that can evoke any response from them. So it is only upon the physical plane that they feel themselves to be alive at all, and this explains their strong craving for birth into earth-life. . . . Their astral bodies . . . gradually become definite vehicles which they can use, and their consciousness begins to be centred rather in their emotions than in mere physical sensations.

At a later stage, but always by the same process of learning to respond to impacts from without, the souls learn to centre their consciousness in the mental body. (Leadbeater 105-106)DPclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The Separation of Selves

For the same reason that we have a different body in each frequency domain, we also have a different self, with its own collected knowledge and memories. These are all versions of us, connected, but each with a different set of memories.

The separation of consciousness into pools

Within each frequency domain, one larger consciousness develops into a relatively distinct self with its own memory. This is because the voids between frequency domains form boundaries of context and memory between states of consciousness. These different selves each have their own continuity of memory, and specialize in their corresponding states of consciousness.

Even though distinct, these selves are part of the same larger self, with direct channels of communication available between them. For example, our physically-oriented self is a specialist in navigating the physical world, and our dream self is a specialist in navigating the dream world (astral plane). Each has a more or less separate stream of memory. When you remember your dreams, you are doing so through that inner channel between the physical self and dream self.

Typically when we cross boundaries of consciousness, our focus leaves the previous behind and is reunited with the consciousness whose home is in that frequency domain. When dreaming, for example, we are focused in our dream self, who lives exclusively in the astral world and knows it intimately. In that focus, we don’t feel the sense of freedom that our waking consciousness would feel if we were to suddenly be able to fly, for example. To the dream self, that is nothing unusual.

Each self has its own focus of attention. I have felt many times while high that I am dreaming at all times, even when awake, but only in that state am I aware of it. The dream self is having its own experiences, often unrelated to my waking experience at the time. Clearly, my dream self has its own focus of attention.

The higher frequency pools of self are more subtle, contain more information, and move more freely. They form the greater contexts of our experience. Higher orders of information can be perceived in these faster, more subtle frequencies.

The nature of reality can be approached only by an investigation of it as it is directly experienced in all levels of awareness. . . .

All layers of the personality are ‘conscious.’ They simply operate like compartments, so that often one portion of the self is not aware of other portions. . . .

In your sleep, you may have greeted friends who are strangers to your waking self. . . . When you are asleep, you usually cannot find the street upon which you live your waking hours, and when you are asleep, you do not know your waking self. The sleeping self is your identity. . . .

Various levels of the ‘subconscious’ will yield their own characteristics. (Roberts 202-203)

The personality’s aims and goals are not only reflected but sometimes achieved in and through the dream condition. (Roberts 209)SD&Pchanneled • modern • Seth

In life we are aware of only certain pulses of our consciousness, and we form our identity by organizing memory and experience along the line of these pulses. We are quite unconscious of anything happening between them. (Roberts 111)AJoaAPchanneled • modern • James

Consciousness Expressed on Different Levels

On the physical level, consciousness takes the form of instinct, automatic reflexes and the automatic functioning of internal organs. . . . At the etheric level, consciousness is expressed in terms of sensations like physical pleasure or pain. . . . At the emotional level, consciousness is expressed in basic primal emotions and reactions like fear, anger and love. . . . On the mental level, consciousness is expressed in terms of rational thinking. (Brennan 138)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Now consciousness . . . is a unit NOTE: the Source. If it appears in the outer world as many, this is not because consciousness has lost its unity, but because it presents itself there through different media. . . . If a current from a galvanic battery is led through a series of several different materials, its appearance will vary with each wire. In platinum it may appear as light, in iron as heat, around a bar of soft iron as magnetic energy, in a solution as a power that decomposes and recombines. One single energy is present, yet many modes of it appear, for the manifestation of life is always conditioned by its forms.

In like manner as consciousness works in the causal, mental, astral, or physical body, the resulting “I” presents very different characteristics. . . . If it is working in the astral body it will be the “I” of the senses; if in the mental, it will be the “I” of the intellect. (Besant 17)SLwisdom • Theosophy • Besant

The difference is a difference of functioning activity and not of nature: the higher manas NOTE: mind is manas working on the spiritual plane, in possession of its full consciousness of its own past; the lower manas is manas working, on the psychic or astral plane, veiled in astral matter . . . and with all its activities intermingled with and coloured by the desire nature; it is to a great extent blinded by the astral matter that veils it. (Besant 30)Kclairvoyant • Theosophy • Besant

The Lower Obscures the Higher

The sensations of the physical body entrain us to its slow frequency, obscuring more subtle higher frequency sensations from us. This applies to every slower frequency of experience — the etheric obscures the astral, the astral obscures the mental. This is by design, to fully focus us in the experiences we’ve chosen.

So having fallen or stepped out of your Impersonal or Edenic estate . . . you no longer were capable of seeing the Reality or Soul of things; for you had put on a physical body, an earthly covering with a human brain, which acted as a veil to your Soul Consciousness, and so bedimmed your sight and clouded your mind that the light of Truth did not penetrate through. . . .

Thus no longer seeing the Soul of things, but only their misty shadows, you grew to thinking these shadows NOTE: the physical were real substance, and that the world about you was composed of and filled with such substance. (Benner 126-128)ILchanneled • New Thought • Benner

It is only our lack of development, only the limitation imposed upon us by this robe of flesh, that prevents us from fully realizing that all the glory of the highest heaven is about us here and now, and that influences flowing from that world are ever playing upon us if we will only understand and receive them. The Physical Body

The physical body is our ability to have a focus in time and space. (Ryerson and Harolde 56)SCchanneled • modern • Ryerson & Harolde

The Physical Body Consciousness

The physical body can maintain itself and continue well-established patterns even without the higher bodies and their intelligence. When we sleep and our attention (and higher bodies) are engaged somewhere else entirely, the physical body keeps the necessities of life flowing. Similarly, we may be awake and engaged in some kind of repetitive physically work while our mind wanders.

Consider how we interface with the body on a regular basis. We simply desire to go somewhere and the body gets up and walks. We don’t control the individual muscles needed, we just think “walk” and the body takes care of the processes necessary. We’re controlling a powerful, complex machine with the simplest thoughts. A simple desire triggers complex learned behaviors.

[The body] possesses its own system of consciousness that to some extent, now is separated from what you think of as your own normal consciousness. The body’s consciousness is hardly to be considered less than your own, or as inferior to that of your inner self, since it represents knowledge from the inner self, and is a part of the inner self’s own consciousness—the part delegated to the body. . . .

So once again the inner self put a portion of its consciousness in a different parcel, so to speak. (Roberts 198-199)DEVF1channeled • modern • Seth

The body can maintain itself while the “main consciousness” is away from it. . . . At certain levels of the sleep state this does in fact happen. In sleepwalking the body is active, but the main consciousness is not “awake.” . . .

Let us look for a moment at the body consciousness.

It is equipped, as an animal is, to perform beautifully in its environment. (Roberts 302-303)UR2channeled • modern • Seth

The physical body has a certain dim consciousness of its own, quite apart from that of the real self, and apart also from the mere aggregate of the consciousness of its individual cells. (Leadbeater 21)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The physical body has a certain blind instinctive consciousness of its own. . . . This consciousness seeks always to protect its body from danger, or to procure for it whatever may be necessary. This is entirely apart from the consciousness of the man himself, and it works equally well during the absence of the ego from the physical body during sleep. . . . It is through its activity that the working of the sympathetic system is carried on. . . .

While we are what we call awake, this physical elemental NOTE: physical body consciousness is perpetually occupied in self-defense; he is in a condition of constant vigilance, and he keeps the nerves and muscles always tense. During the night or at any time when we sleep, he lets the nerves and muscles relax, and devotes himself specially to the assimilation of vitality and the recuperation of the physical body. The Physical Body Moving While Projecting

Moira: “I was walking down the street one day, and I suddenly found myself out of my body, and I was thinking, ‘How can this be?’ I was still walking down the street but I was a couple of paces behind, and I was looking at myself from behind, and I could see every bit of myself. And I thought, ‘Oh, so that’s how she looks’. . . . I was very aware at that moment that I was just ‘expressing’ in this personality for a brief moment of time and that the ‘real me’ was the me outside.” (Sutherland 129)WtLresearcher • modern • Sutherland

Walking is a well-known subroutine that the physical body can perform without thinking. It reminds me of how I’d continue mechanically eating popcorn while my thoughts were completely elsewhere.

The Body Consciousness in Pain

The writer has several times observed an effect of this [body] consciousness when watching the extraction of a tooth under the influence of gas. The body uttered a confused cry, and raised its hands vaguely towards the mouth, clearly showing that it to some extent felt the wrench; yet when the ego resumed possession twenty seconds later, he declared that he had felt absolutely nothing of the operation. (Leadbeater 21)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Terrible pain or trauma can cause someone to leap out of their body. When this happens, the body itself continues to respond to the pain on its own.

In the following, a woman has left her body during a painful labor:

She was shocked to see how contorted her facial features appeared. “At first I thought I must have died, but then the body on the bed below began to thresh about wildly and let out a terrible cry of pain.” (Steiger 41)OwtLNDErs • modern • Steiger

Arnold: “Just then a spasm of pain doubled me over, and the reflex action seemed to shoot the thinking part of me up to the ceiling. I thought, ‘Oh, no! I wanted to be able to escape the pain, but I didn’t want to die!’”

Arnold was completely astonished. He could actually see his mother fussing about, and he could clearly perceive himself tossing about on the bed, moaning and groaning.

“My body seemed to be like some kind of puppet, just going through the motions of awful sickness. But I—the Real Me—could no longer feel a thing. Incredibly, the pain remained down below with my physical body on the bed.

“Then I started feeling kind of ashamed about the way my physical body was behaving like such a baby, I mean, the pain was awful and all; but I was whimpering and moaning like a wimp. I decided that I really should go back and act like a man.”

And just like that, Arnold said that he was back in his physical body and howling in pain.

“If it hurt so bad to be in my body—and there was absolutely no pain when I was outside of my body—then it didn’t take a genius like me very long to decide where I wanted to be.”

Arnold was surprised to discover how quickly the Real Arnold was able to be back up floating near the ceiling. (Steiger 22-23)OwtLNDErs • modern • Steiger

In one regression a young woman was being burned at the stake for her beliefs while the whole town watched. . . . As the flames leaped higher, she decided she would not give them the satisfaction of seeing her suffer. So she left the body and watched from a hovering position above the scene. There, much to her chagrin and aggravation, she saw her body screaming as it went through the agonies of burning to death. (Cannon 14)BDLhypnosis • modern • Cannon

The Ability to Call Back the Higher Bodies

The physical body can call back the waking self in dreams and OBEs. The waking self usually returns, but is able to override the call and remains separate if it desires.

See “The MetaDreamer” in nature-of-dreams.php.

There sure enough was my body apparently still asleep on the bed but even as we stood looking at it, I noticed that it moved and turned from one side on to its back. My guide pointed this out to me and explained that, subconsciously, it was beginning to realize that the time had nearly arrived for it to wake up again, that within a few minutes an SOS would be sent out and, even if I were ten thousand miles away, I should have to return immediately. The Brain’s Role

The brain is the physical interface that consciousness uses to perceive and express in the physical world the creature lives in. The brain speaks the language of consciousness, expressed through neural wave forms.

Dr. Peebles: The physical brain is a translator, extremely sophisticated translator, but no more than that. . . . Behind the brain is the mind, that is creative and subjective in nature and is able to go beyond language to form symbols. (Pendleton 189)

Dr. Peebles: The entire experience of intelligence comes from the soul. . . .

[The physical brain] holds information. . . . Memories can be held and located in the brain. The brain is also a translator for language. . . . It is a vehicle to help you integrate. (Pendleton 139)TDAchanneled • modern • Pendleton

The vibrations of the nerve-threads present to the brain are merely impressions, and it is the work of the ego NOTE: the reincarnating self, acting through the mind, to classify, combine, and re-arrange them. . . .

The Two Energy Flows
Psilocybin, Marijuana

The Originating Flow: Shiva and Shakti

An in-depth understanding of the energy bodies, chakras, the Source and the flow comes from ancient Indian Sanskrit oral tradition.

Shiva is the Source, pure consciousness, which overflows itself, active, animating. Shakti is the unformed matter of the frequency domains, inert without the flow. Shiva flows ever outward into Shakti, creating forms, life, the multiverse.

This very process is at work in the creation of thought forms. Shakti is the elemental essence that takes form in response to thought (thought being a manifestation of the flow). see “How Thoughts Take Form” in thoughts.php.

The male principle, Shiva, is identified with pure unmanifest consciousness. He represents bliss and is depicted as a formless being, deep in meditation. . . .

Shakti, the female counterpart to this inactive consciousness, is the life giver. She is the entire creation and mother of the universe. . . .

It is through union with Shakti NOTE: the matter of frequency domains that the consciousness of Shiva NOTE: the flow may descend and embody the universe (Shakti) with Divine Consciousness. . . .

Each of these deities has a tendency to move toward the other. (Judith 27-28)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

The flow wants to experience embodiment in the universes, and the embodied flow wants to return to its pristine radiant nature.

Sakti sleeps in the first chakra at the base of the spine; Siva lives alone in the crown. . . .

Two Flows and Our Holographic Nature

Dole . . . notes that one of the most basic tenets of Swedenborg’s thinking is that our universe is constantly created and sustained by two wave-life flows, one from heaven and one coming from our own soul or spirit. “If we put these images together, the resemblance to the hologram is striking,” says Dole. “We are constituted by the intersection of two flows—one direct, from the divine, and one indirect, from the divine via our environment. We can view ourselves as interference patterns, because the inflow is a wave phenomenon, and we are where the waves meet.” (Talbot 259)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

This reflects the direct flow from the Source into us, and the indirect flow of our experience of the world. The bends in our tunnel to the Source determines how bright the direct flow (and resulting experience) is.

This appears to be distinct from the two flows mentioned in the sections below.

The Two Flows
The Currents Sustaining Chakras

According to Hinduism, Kundalini is the divine feminine energy (Shakti) coiled at the base of the spine that flows up the spine. It’s associated with the physical, and flows from the physical to the universal. The divine masculine energy (Shiva) resides at the crown chakra at the top of the head, and that is a downward flow from the universal to the physical. Kundalini is usually associated with the flow up the spine. What I felt during the Ecstasy Trance was an infinite energy source from above the head — the universal Shiva flow.

These two opposing flows — one moving down the spine and one moving up the spine — is what creates and sustains the energy vortexes known as chakras.

There is energy that comes “up” from the earth, and energy that comes “down” through the higher planes, which could be called “heaven energy.” We need both earth and heaven energies in our bodies, in balance, to be healthy. (Hoodwin 342)JoYSchanneled • modern • Hoodwin

The Liberating and Manifesting Currents

The flow down the spine is the manifesting current, taking on form. The flow up the spine is the liberating current, calling back towards the freedom of the Source.

This incremental spectrum describes two basic currents running through the body and connecting all the chakras. They are the liberating current and the manifesting current. . . .

Each step along the liberating pathway is a rearrangement of matter and of consciousness, to produce more efficient energy-rich combinations. As it originated below, it is fueled by the lower chakras—our roots, our guts, our desires. . . .

Our downward current is equally important. This is the current of manifestation, whereby thoughts gain density through imagination, verbalization, and activity until they manifest themselves in the physical world. Each step downward is a step toward limitation, a constriction of freedom. Each step down is an act of consciousness in the form of choice—an act of creation. . . .

In order for either of these pathways to be complete, all of the chakras need to be open and active. Liberation without limitation leaves us scattered and confused. Limitation without liberation is stifling and very boring. (Judith 26-27)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

This is a key understanding. The manifesting current is how the flow is channeled into specific thoughts, feelings, and then finally expressed in some manner in the physical. The liberating current is how our experiences are arranged into feelings, then thoughts and beliefs about the physical world.

Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna

The chakras are vortexes created and sustained by the intersections of these flows of energy along the spine. The ida is the channel for the downward flow of Shakti energy from the universal to the physical. The pingala is the channel for the upward flow of Shiva energy from the physical to the universal.

The central spinal channel which houses the kundalini energy is called the sushumna, and runs directly up the middle.

This . . . psycho-physical system . . . consists of a dynamic network of subtle channels, “winds” or inner air, and essences. These are called respectively: nadi, prana, and bindu in Sanskrit. . . .

There are 72,000 subtle channels in the body, but three principal ones: the central channel, running parallel to the spine, and the right and left channels, which run either side of it. . . .

Through these channels flow the winds, or inner air NOTE: prana. (Rinpoche 248)TBoLDwisdom • Tibetan • Rinpoche

Two alternative channels controlling the yin and the yang energies, Ida and Pingala, twist in figure eight-like patterns around each chakra and run alongside the Sushumna. These channels are among thousands of psychic channels called nadis. (Judith 118)

The creation of the chakras is made by the intersection of these two forces. Each chakra has a different balance between them. The lower we go in the system, the stronger the momentum of the manifesting current. The higher chakras are more influenced by the liberating current. (Judith 27)

Movement and flow along these nadis are responsible for the spinning of the chakras. . . . Generally the chakras alternate between clockwise spins at each step. . . . The motion, in opposite directions around both sides of the center, causes the chakra to spin. (Judith 118-121)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

Fig. 4a shows the stimulated Ida after the initiation into the First Degree; this line is crimson in colour. To it is added at the Passing the yellow line of the Pingala, depicted in Fig. 4b; while at the Raising the series is completed by the deep blue stream of the Sushumna, illustrated by Fig. 4c. Direction of Flow

There are differing opinions on the direction of flow of the ida, some saying it flows downward (which makes sense in spinning the chakras), while others saying it also flows upward like the pingala and sushumna (which makes sense in providing a flow into each brain hemisphere).

There is a subtle channel that runs along the right side of the spine known as the pingala. This contains the upward directed, hot, bright, positive, yang, masculine, solar energy. . . .

Ida [is] the subtle channel that moves along the left side of the spine. The ida contains the downward directed, cool, dark, negative, yin, feminine, lunar energy. (MSI 233-234)

The chakras are located where the ida and the pingala cross. The ida and the pingala originate in the base chakra and terminate in the sixth chakra. The pingala is white and carries solar energy and the forces of the day. This energy moves our consciousness upward toward the rational. The ida is black and carries lunar energy and the forces of the night. Its downward movement takes us into the unconscious, the source of regeneration, creativity and intuition. (MSI 324-325)Ewisdom • modern, Hindu • Isham

The astral spinal energy, like its etheric counterpart, rises from the chakra at the base of the spine and flows upward to the medulla oblongata in three streams which correspond with the ida, pingala and sushumna. DVK has described theses as follows: The stream on the right side of the astral spine rises from the right side of the core of the chakra at the base of the spine and flows upward to the back of the head. . . . The stream on the left side of the spine duplicates that on the right. . . . The energy which flows through the central portion of the astral spine arises from the very heart of the base spinal chakra, moves upward and bifurcates at the area near the medulla oblongata, at which point the two divisions cross each other, the energy on the right going to the left brain, and that on the left to the right brain. The Sushumna

The sushumna brings psychic energy from . . . pure consciousness (God, Goddess, The Force, Divine Mind, Nature, etc.) to . . . the mental and physical individual here on the Earth plane. (Judith 16)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

Our Coloring of General Energies

When a generalized energy flows into us, in either an upward or downward flow, it becomes colored by who we are, by our past experiences, by all of our desires, fears, and expectations.

During the passage of this force up the spine . . . it becomes intensely impregnated with the personality of the man. It seems to enter at the bottom as a very general force, and to issue forth at the top as definitely this particular man’s. (Leadbeater 34)Cclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The Downward Flow

This flow is downward in two senses. Most importantly it is decreasing in frequency, from faster to slower, from the universal to the physical. It is also a downward flow from above the head to the base of the spine.

The seventh chakra . . . is related to the original transcendental union of Siva and Sakti. In the sixth chakra, Sakti separates from Siva and creates the mind and the intellect. The five remaining chakras, located from the neck to the pelvis, represents the five stages of progressive crystallization of the Ascendant NOTE: pure consciousness into matter. (MSI 327)Ewisdom • modern, Hindu • Isham

The spinal column and chakras correspond to each frequency domain between the Source and the physical. When I experienced the Ecstasy Trance, the flow came down from a point a foot or two above my head. It flows through the crown chakra at the top of the head (the first vortex), taking on matter of that frequency domain, and onwards down through each chakra down the spine.

The Tunnel to the Source

The Source punched a hole through all the frequency domains as it traveled outward into them. Those holes remain as long as that tunnel from the Source is extended outwards through them. They are spinning vortexes through which the flow continues. These are our chakras. Outside the physical, they are nested. Within the physical, they are spread out along our spine and head.

During a psilocybin trip, I experienced the downward flow from the universal in one of the most intense experiences of my life, which I called the Ecstasy Trance (see “The Ecstasy Trance” in flow-into-us.php).

From the Ecstasy Trance:

And throughout all this, in my head there is a tunnel. It leads straight upward to eternity, like a row of mirrors. Straight above me is infinity, the stream of life, a white-hot fire of pure energy and potential.

Potential Rocking

From the Ecstasy Trance:

It enters my mind that I am experiencing a “potential rocking”. At the end of each right-left movement, I feel the energy coming to a resting point, and as it did, a gravitational pull towards the other side began, as effortless as falling, a motion whose every cycle brought more and more energy with it.

I try to call on the Ecstasy Trance again by inducing the potential rocking. I focus my attention to the left hemisphere, then to the right, feeling the energy as a whole go slowly from side to side. Before long, it takes over on its own, albeit a shadow of the Ecstasy Trance. Above my head, I sense a tunnel of black with a shining white pin-prick at the top. It releases this relaxation onto me, and it falls either to the left or the right side of my brain. It can’t go in the middle, and it falls and lays down in a fractal-like form, then the pull is to the other side. It is a pattern of full and complete relaxation. It’s an endless source of energy, always flowing. It is straight above, no matter which way my head is leaning.

This point is directly above my head

This is likely the very tunnel we travel through to reach higher frequency domains after death.

Potential rocking is a powerful left-right rocking energy motion in our minds. When all the energy moves to the right, it’s as if gravity shifts to the left and all it needs to do is let go to fall to its point of rest on the left. When the energy fills the left, the feeling of gravity shifts to the right and it’s as simple as falling back in that direction. Our energy effortlessly rocks back and forth in this fashion. It repeats like this, just a constant falling to a new position of rest, first the left side, then the right. Our whole being becomes aligned with those movements. We feel its incredible power.

Potential rocking. rest 1, rest 2, rest 3, rest 4

My head, then my body rocked left and right as the energy moves from side to side. Going with it is as simple as relaxing.

As the potential rocking rhythm slows down, more energy flows into each side. It gets fuller, stronger.

In this state, we will never run out of energy. Each rocking, each release brings more energy. The stream of life flows without end.

I only have to think of the potential rocking while on psilocybin to have it return. It can return in degrees, and has never returned as strongly as the first time. Deep breathing speeds it up.

Diversions in the Cycle

The cycle pauses when we focus. Focus freezes up the motion. Because of this, it may take an hour to complete one cycle, or a day, or a lifetime. We don’t have to move in this dimension. But when we do unfocus and relax, we start the cycle again where we left off.

See “Unfocus Near Zero Context” in pure-essence.php and “Focus Freezes the Flow” in flow-into-us.php.

The Upward Flow

This flow is upward in two senses. Most importantly it is increasing in frequency, from slower to faster, from the physical to the universal. It is also a flow upward from the base of the spine to the head.

Interestingly, I most often feel the downward flow with psilocybin, and the upward flow with marijuana.

It’s unclear if my perceptions of the flow of energy up my spine is kundalini or, more likely, the continuous upwards flow associated with ida, pingala, and sushumna. I referred to it as kundalini in some of my notes below.

The Flow up the Spine

There is an energy flowing up the spine. It’s the indirect beam from below carrying the experiences of the physical body in the physical world. This joins with the direct beam from above to form the hologram in the mind.

Sparks — a spark rate. Spine is this arc, this cycle.
Human life. World. Beam.
Details: this is the spine and brain.

Energy rises up our spines, into our minds, then spins out of us, curling backwards as it flows out above us.

high, this flying feeling

Going to sleep is spinning forward, moving towards fetal position and relaxation. The other direction is stretching, becoming awake and aware.

Potential Rocking in the Upward Flow

On marijuana, I can feel the potential rocking as I think. It’s a big, strong rocking with a small motion-span. I can channel this movement into my arms and hands.

Slow rock or high or pillar of air.
Think, rock, big strong and small move. I’m rocking slowly as I think.

Interestingly, in both these cases I felt the potential rocking was coming from the upward flow.

The Energy Whip

An effect similar to the waving of a flow can happen when a strong flow hits resistance that can move the source of the flow, like when a hose on full blast is pointed at the ground.

A fire hose whipping around

The trance starts slowly. The snake is high above, whipping around like the end of a hose with high-pressure water shooting out. As I bring this “hose” down, the motion of it is more and more apparent in my body. The gentle rocking back and forth when it first descends is like the rocking of a flame back and forth. In fact, the image of a rocking flame appeared brightly in my head when it was happening. It begins as a gentle rocking and when it is brought fully into my body, it moves me with such tremendous power. The rocking increases as I trust and relax more. I feel more and more of my weight rocking left and right.

The movement of the potential rocking is usually up so high it’s out of the body. Bring that down into the body and the head begins to move, then the head and neck, and further in, the entire body moves.

Bringing down the whipping energy

Disruption in the Flow

Fear’s Effect on the Flow

Fear sends a literal shudder of energy up your spine, caused by a temporary block in the upward flow. The pressure builds up during that momentary block and causes a shudder — a quick whip of the hose caused by the momentary blockage.

Yikes! Big fear shake went up my spine.

The shake starts at the bottom of the spine and runs up its course, sometimes rocking the head a little as it gets to it.

Fear also causes jumps, leaps in the heart, freezing up. Fears come as energetic jolts, shocks that draw our attention to them. Once my nervousness was reflected instantly in a tense arm.

Energy Kinks in the Spine

When we’re in the now, the energy flowing up the spine makes it all the way up into the mind and relaxes us. On LSD or psilocybin, it sometimes feels like my mind is on a “pillar of air”. By this I mean it is running on a fountain of energy coming up from the spine. It feels light and quick. A solid stream of energy up the spine makes us feel real, solid, and present in the moment.

As we get older, blockages and attachments cause the energy flowing up the spine to be diverted and it flows where it shouldn’t, into muscles and organs, causing disease and stress knots.

These breaks are where stress is formed. Long pulse (no stress).
The energy is the size of the cycle.
The stress stores in the stomach area, where the kink occurs.

Note that in the following I’m referring to the upward flow as kundalini.

A big jarring loses energy into the body. Stress is where the kundalini stream diverts to: shoulder, arm
Straight solid kundalini stream. Feel solid, real, present. Like a laser beam.
Each stress is stored in a part of the body.

Sometimes when I’m high, I can clearly feel the energy flows in my body. Here is my experience after a trip to Minnesota to see family. I usually get along great with them, but they had fallen for Covid misinformation and conspiracy theories, and this damaged our relationship. I felt like I couldn’t be fully open with them anymore:

What I’m feeling in my body is a congestion in my heart and throat areas. Chakras, perhaps. It’s slowing down the energy in those two places. The energy is getting taken for a ride, running through fears and old systems. It reaches me (my mind) a lot more slowly, diminished. I think our mental capacity is based on the rate of the energy running to it. When it’s slowed down running through past experiences, the mind receives a slower frequency and can’t see as CLEARLY — because we see fewer moments. 100/100 moments is perfect clarity of the moment, with us consciously seeing 100% of what’s usually subconscious.

Fast frequency -> heart -> energy kinks — running through fears ->
now frequency is diminished to the brain.

This is exactly the chakras I’d expect to have issues. The heart chakra deals with relationships and the throat chakra deals with communication.

Being honest with myself, I’ve got some pretty serious kinks in the energy of my heart (primary) and throat (secondary), which makes sense after a visit to Minnesota that was overall good but strained my relationships and kept me from opening up.

Relation to the Sphere and Beam Model

The kinks in the energy coming up the spine are equivalent to our focus in the Sphere & Beam Model diverting off into other thoughts. Now there’s the question of where this happens — in the energy kinks, it’s not yet reaching the brain. In the Sphere & Beam Model, this takes place within the brain.

Our consciousness is the sum of our chakras — the continuous flow through each frequency domain. So even though my heart chakra is spatially distinct from my brain, it processes the energy of consciousness at that level. It provides the energy at that frequency band (unless it’s kinked). Our energy can be diverted at any level on the way up (or down?).

I’ve noted that every memory is stored with a body position — perhaps this is the mechanism for how the body is involved.

See “The Sphere and Beam Model” in flow-into-us.php and “The Body Position Index” in attention.php.

Fear’s Energy Flows
Energy focused on a point only.

During the Minnesota trip in which I felt I couldn’t communicate openly, I felt the energy of my legs focused into the balls of my feet, my heels disconnected, ungrounded. This comes from fear. Some common phrases that reflect this energetic reality we feel and know are “tiptoeing around topics” and “walking on eggshells”.

Differential / Standing Waves — Gulping

Our focus on different thoughts and feelings result in changes to the energy flows in the body. We physically feel and recognize some of these changes in the body’s energy as a part of our basic energy language.

For example, a gulp or lump rising in your throat is a “differential wave” caused by a feeling of nervousness. The changing rates of the upward and downward flows interact at that moment to produce a wave slowly rising or lowering in the throat area, and it means exactly what we think — nervousness. “Uh oh, I did something wrong” — GULP!

Head. Spine. Two frequencies. They together form a differential wave.
The place the pressures equalize is a place energy gathers, where muscles contract.

What I mean by differential waves is the wave interference pattern caused by frequencies interacting, forming the sensation of a third wave standing still or slowly moving up or down the spine, especially at certain areas like the throat. This is similar to how looking at a spinning fan or wheel at certain rates might make it look like it’s standing still or slowing turning forwards or backwards.

Consider how a wheel spinning at increasing speeds appears to start slowing down, then seems to become stationary, then reverse directions back the other way. This is called aliasing or the “wagon wheel effect”. Watch this animation for a minute to see this effect:

The wagon wheel effect. As the viewpoint increases in speed to the right,
the scenery seems to slow down, stop, then switch directions.

This is also similar to “beat frequency” in audio waves. When two slightly different frequencies are played at the same time, a throbbing third frequency appears at the speed of the frequency difference. For example, a 410Hz tone played with a 411Hz tone will have a 1Hz beat frequency. This can be heard clearly when tuning one guitar string to another.

Marijuana: I focused back on my painful guts to see if they still hurt. The pain, gone from my experience for so long, returned. And that focus on my guts expanded the sensations there, causing a lump to rise in my throat. I quickly changed my focus.

The nervousness causing the lump/gulp feeling comes from attention shifting to a lower chakra, likely fear intensifying the first or third chakras, causing the energy flow to push upwards from there.

Kundalini

What Kundalini Is

In Sanskrit, kundalini means “coiled up”. The terms represents . . . bioenergy said to lie latent . . . at the base of the spine. . . . Under certain circumstances, however, this energy can be activated, and when it is, it is said to travel upward through the spine. As it travels, it activates certain energy centers (called chakras . . . ) and may induce explosive and destabilizing energy transformations that are experienced both psychologically and physically. . . . Typically its manifestations are extremely disruptive to one’s equilibrium even when—as sometimes is the case—the initial experience is itself one of supreme rapture. . . .

Kundalini appears to throw the nervous system into overdrive, activating its latent potentials and permitting the individual to experience the world and perform in it in extraordinary fashion. . . .

The activation of this energy is responsible for genius, psychic abilities of various kinds, and, ultimately, the varieties of mystical and religious experience that have been reported throughout the ages. (Ring 230)HTOresearcher • modern • Ring

[Kundalini] lies asleep in the normal person, coiled three and a half times round the lowest triangular end of the spine. (Krishna 191)LWKmeditator • Hinduism • Krishna

Kundalini, a Sanskrit word meaning “circular power,” is an individual’s basic evolutionary force. Each of us is born with some of this energy already flowing. The amount available and usable determines whether a person has low intelligence, is a genius, or is somewhere in the middle. (Paulson 3)KatCclairvoyant • modern • Paulson

If you take a circling energy, and turn the circle on the side, the energy appears to be rocking back and forth, perfectly matching the experience of potential rocking.

Its Function

[Kundalini’s] principal function in connection with occult development is that, by being sent through the force-centres in the etheric body . . . it quickens these chakras and makes them more fully available as gates of connection between the physical and astral bodies. (Leadbeater 86)Cclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

One purpose of Kundalini is to cleanse and refine the body cells so that higher mental and spiritual energies can operate in the system. (Paulson 21)

The energy not only has an evolutionary purpose, it literally gives us extra energy. The body may draw from it (without our conscious knowledge) to handle extreme situations. Often, when such situations conclude, the flow continues and the person does not handle things well; the person deals now with excessive kundalini release as well as the original trauma. (Paulson 10)

Its natural flow is up the spine and out the top of the head: along that path it brings new awareness, new abilities, and transcendental states. (Paulson 5)KatCclairvoyant • modern • Paulson

Kundalini-Based Movement

When I write of Kundalini, I’m writing primarily of potential rocking — the rocking flow of energy — sometimes from the flow up the spine, sometimes from the flow above my head.

Image credit to Refahu under this license

The Kundalini snake is the outside skin of the tunnel to higher frequencies. At the end of it, it is like the end of a hose, and the eye of consciousness peers out. The snake is conscious of its whole self at once. It wants to move, always.

The Body Fractal

During the potential rocking of the Ecstasy Trance, I was able to move energy around the fractal pattern of my body.

From the Ecstasy Trance:

I’m sitting on the bed, the motion moving me to and fro. I find myself rolling my head as I release layer upon layer of myself. My arms move, and my whole body rolls with it. I am tracing a fractal pattern of my body — yes, I see that it is a neural fractal — and the energy flows into each part of my body that I focus on in the most natural, smooth, strong way I have ever felt. It is a continual release of body stress as I roll the energy through different parts of my body, riding the power of the potential rocking, the Ecstasy Trance in full bloom. At times the whole of the motion would move into a single hand and my body would lay limply while my hand flexed and turned and rolled in every way possible, with the fluidity of a dancer, with the rhythm of a musician, and then the motion would pull out of my hand and take the whole upper body as its instrument, turning me and whirling me, then moving to my head and shoulders. It seemed at times that the motion was the same as nuzzling, snuggling, these instinctual urges playing themselves out in the natural course of the energy.

The mind inherently understands fractals and that becomes clear in this state. My body had a fractal representation in my mind, and by moving my energy around that fractal, my entire body moved in smooth, dance-like motion to any position. It was the essence and source of dance. Every muscle in the body is bent to the goal of each single motion.

Usual stretching vs full release and movement to a new spot. Thus a greater concentration
than is usually possible. Every molecule points to it. A phase transition, based on
possibilities, based on this new point.

My consciousness moved from its usual resting point and traced the contours of the fractal. As this energy moved down my arm and to my hand and each finger, each point it reached became a new balancing point for the entire rest of the body, became the perspective from which the rest of the body was seen. Not “what is the position of my hand measured from my head”, but “what is the position of my head measured from my hand”?

Yawning and Stretching

A yawn brings in big energy, and a stretch rolls energy through my body fractal. The movement follows the edges of the body fractal.

When we yawn and stretch, it’s like a spacetime bulge, an expansion, a larger energy wave moving slowly through our body fractal. It’s the same kind of energy bulge I was moving around my whole body in the Ecstasy Trance, but in a very reduced way.

A stretch is sending a big wave down your body. It starts at the tip of his nose.

Stretches energize the body! It refreshes the muscles, shrugging off little distractions and attractions, little pains — anything less than the size of the “wash of energy.” It’s similar to the regeneration from energy field rotation during relaxation, but directly on the muscles.

See “Relaxation and Energy Field Rotation” in nature-of-dreams.php.

Kundalini in Nature

The rocking back and forth of Kundalini is used to burrow and contort into tight places, it’s there when moles and worms tunnel. It’s getting into a nook. It’s the movement of snakes.

Kundalini also manifests in the nuzzle/snuggle instinct, which is similar to burrowing. A dog wags its tail because of Kundalini. It’s why cats rhythmically flex their paws (make biscuits) and slowly move their tails when content.

Rocking a baby comforts it by bringing it back to this state, which is very familiar to it.

It’s there when an animal gets vicious to defend its life. The kundalini snake or whip is reeled in very rapidly when there is a threat to life. The kundalini returns home, whipping about wildly, lashing out in all directions. It returns down the spine, then goes up and out each of the limbs, fingers, toes, and claws.

The Chakras

Each energy body condenses around the Source as it moves through slower frequency domains. The energy bodies are layers around a central point of light (though they may be projected out into other forms). The chakras are in actuality laying directly on top of each other. Each is a vortex through which energy flows in and out. So when passing through 7 frequency domains, there will be 7 nested vortexes, each moving energy in and out of its particular frequency domain.

The chakras take on separate spatial dimensions in the physical and are spread out along the spine and head in the physical body.

The infinite energy from The Source flows into increasingly slower and denser frequencies, through the vortexes of chakras. The inner energizes the outer.

Chakras Are Vortexes

The explosion of the Source out from itself punches holes into slower frequency domains as it travels through them. The energy of each frequency swirls around these holes in a vortex as it flows into and out of each frequency domain. The chakras as the vortexes produced by this energy flow.

Stretched out into the physical space, this takes the form of two flows up and down the spine, causing the chakras to spin.

TO DO: Include some pictures from the books

Chakras exist in many dimensions simultaneously, and as such, are a point of entry into those dimensions. In the realm of the physical, they are areas of the body and can be measured as patterns of electromagnetic activity, centered around the major nerve ganglia. . . .

In all dimensions, chakras are a kind of vortex—a significant gathering point of organized life energy. (Judith 2)

In metaphysical terminology, a chakra is a vortex. The scientific definition of a vortex describes chakras as well: a mass of fluid with a whirling circular motion, forming a cavity or vacuum in the center which draws toward itself bodies subject to this action. . . . Anything the chakra encounters on its particular vibrational level gets drawn into the chakra, processed, and passed out again. . . .

The spinning is the vibratory pattern of the chakra. (Judith 18-22)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

As [Diane] describes it, energy moves in and out of these vortices, which look like spiral cones. (Karagulla 124)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

The chakras or force-centres are points of connection at which energy flows from one vehicle or body of a man to another. (Leadbeater 4)Cclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

In Indian literature the chakras have been referred to as lotuses because of their flower-like form, and because they have a central root or stem which connects them energetically to the spine and nervous system. . . .

The colors, which vary from chakra to chakra also glow in a way that contributes to their flower-like appearance. In a healthy person, the chakras’ forms are beautifully balanced, symmetrical and organic, with all the parts flowing together in a rhythmic pattern. Some [physicians] saw chakras, but because they were ignorant of the term, they described them as “vortices of energy at certain points along the spine, connected with or influencing the endocrine system.” (Talbot 172)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

Attributes of the Chakras

Chakra Density

Chakra “density” is due to the density of the frequency domains they relate to.

As a system, the seven chakras describe an incremental spectrum between matter and consciousness. The lower chakras are the most dense. . . .

The upper chakras, then, are the least dense. (Judith 26)

As we climb up the chakra column, our boundaries become less defined. When we reach pure consciousness, the ideal of the seventh chakra, it becomes impossible to draw a border around this consciousness and say, “This is mine, and that is yours.” (Judith 261)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

Chakra Spin

Generally a healthy, functioning chakra will spin or turn in a clockwise direction (when we are viewing the front of a person), so that the energy will be drawn upward to the next chakra. (Below the equator, healthy chakras spin counterclockwise.) (Bruyere 73)WoLclairvoyant • modern • Bruyere

The spiral cones of energy that make up these vortices may be fast or slow, rhythmical or jerky. [Diane] sometimes sees breaks in the energy pattern. (Karagulla 125)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

Chakra Petals

Like lotuses, chakras have “petals,” which vary in number from chakra to chakra (from bottom to top: 4, 6, 10, 12, 16, 2, 1000 petals). Like flowers, chakras can be open or closed, dying or budding, depending upon the state of consciousness within. (Judith 13)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

Each major vortex as [Diane] describes it more minutely is made up of a number of lesser spiral cones of energy and each major vortex differs in the number of these spiral cones. (Karagulla 125)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

These lesser spirals are the “petals” of the chakra lotuses. see “Energizing the Body” below for how they work.

Chakra Colors

The spinning of the individual chakras creates energy, the frequency of which determines the color of a particular chakra. The amount of intensity of energy produced by a particular chakra or group of chakras determines the color that dominates the auric field. (Bruyere 63)WoLclairvoyant • modern • Bruyere

Each chakra looks like a vortex of a different color and follows the colors of the rainbow. . . .

Valerie Hunt: “Chakras frequently carried the colors stated in the metaphysical literature, i.e. kundalini—red, hypogastric—orange, spleen—yellow, heart—green, throat—blue, third eye—violet, crown—white.” . . .

Various yoga texts, describing how the chakras appear, often describe the first chakra as yellow, the second white, the third red, the fourth smoky, the fifth blue with the sixth gold and the seventh lustrous beyond color. . . .

When viewing chakras clairvoyantly, it is equally unlikely that one would see a set of chakras reflecting the above rainbow description, for these are optimum colors occurring in chakras that are fully developed and clear. . . .

From my own experience, it is far more common to see many colors in each chakra, twisting in and out of the chakra and forming patterns and images that relate to that person’s life. (Judith 326-327)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

Resonant Pitch

Each chakra has a different pitch, and each person’s pitch for a particular chakra is slightly different. . . .

To find the pitch for each chakra, I vary the [sound] range a bit until I hit a resonance. . . . When I hit the right pitch, the chakra tenses up and begins to spin rapidly and evenly. Its color brightens up. . . .

Traditional Indian teachings give a Sanskrit letter and a particular sound for each chakra. (Brennan 241-242)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Chakra Layers

Each of the seven chakras has seven layers, each corresponding to a layer of the auric field. Each chakra looks different on each of these layers. (Brennan 45)

Each layer of the aura is associated with a chakra. That is, the first layer is associated with the first chakra, and the second with the second chakra, and so on. (Brennan 43)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

For example, for the fourth chakra, there are really seven chakras, each of a higher frequency band than the lower one. These chakras appear to be nested within each other like nesting glasses. Each chakra on each higher layer extends out farther in the auric field (to the edge of each auric layer) and is slightly broader than the one below it.

Energy is transmitted from one layer to the next through passageways in the tips of the chakras. . . . Each chakra . . . is directly connected to the same chakra in the next finer body that surrounds and interpenetrates it. (Brennan 48)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Location of the Chakras

The major chakras are situated at:

1. MASTER: Base chakra (base of spine, between anus and genitals)

2. Spleen chakra (slightly below the belly button)

3. Solar Plexus chakra (1 hand-span above the belly button)

4. MASTER: Heart chakra (centre of the chest)

5. Throat chakra (base of throat, above where it joins the chest)

6. Brow chakra (exact centre of forehead)

7. MASTER: Crown chakra (whole top of head above the hairline)

They are best imagined as roughly the size of the palm of your hand, except for the crown chakra which is much larger. . . .

The chakras are attached to the spinal cord and nervous system via certain glands and nerve ganglia. The full chakra system is extremely complex. There are 3 master, 4 major and over 300 minor chakras in the human body. There are also several non-physical chakras situated outside of the body. Detailed maps of the chakra system and their connecting meridians and pathways, have been used for thousands of years in Eastern mysticism and medicine. ToPOBEr • modern • Bruce

The above is the most common depiction of chakra locations, though there can be some variation:

Five of these macro-vortices are located in a line along the spine. There is one at the base of the spine, one approximately midway between the pubic bone and the navel, one at the navel, one at the level of mid-sternum near the heart area and one near the larynx or Lewis’s apple. There is another macro-vortex on the left side of the body in the area of the spleen and pancreas. This one does not seem to be connected with the spinal pattern of vortices. There are two other macro-vortices, one approximately where the eyebrows meet and one at the top of the head. There is a ninth smaller vortex at the back of the head in the vicinity of the medulla oblongata. (Karagulla 125)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

As you can see, there is some disagreement on the colors of each chakra. It depends on the development of each person and possibly on the clairvoyant.

The Appearance of Developed Chakras

The chakras also reveal a person’s quality of consciousness and degree of personal development and abilities, through the variations in the etheric centers and their interconnections with those at other levels. In a simple, rather undeveloped person, the chakras will be small in size, slow in movement, dull in color and coarse in texture. In a more intelligent, responsive and sensitive person they will be brighter, of finer texture and with a more rapid movement, and in an awakened individual who makes full use of his powers, they become coruscating whirlpools of color and light. . . .

In any one individual, some chakras may vary in size and brilliance, and this, together with the activity of their interconnections, indicates special talents and abilities. For example, the throat and brow centers of a talented singer or speaker will be much larger than the norm, as well as being brighter, more luminous and more rapidly spinning. In a quite different case the solar plexus center of a trance-medium will be enlarged but of a coarser texture, with dark colors and some dysrhythmia and looseness in the core. In a newborn baby, the chakras are usually about three centimeters in size and look like hard little disks. . . .

The various chakras also indicate the primary emphasis on an individual—the focus of the “I”. For example, if a person identifies principally with feelings, the solar plexus and heart center will be more active and prominent than the others. If the brow center is very bright, this indicates a degree of personal integration; if the crown center is especially luminous, it signifies the development of spiritual awareness. The level of activity of the etheric chakras and the degree of sensitivity of their interconnections with their emotional and mental counterparts determine an individual’s potential for the development of higher sense perception. Feeling the Chakras

We can feel the chakras through an internal touch sense that feels like gentle tapping rhythms. I’m sometimes able to tune into this sense with marijuana. It translates most easily into touch and sound.

I feel this like a sense. It feels like a light tapping sensation. It pulses. I see it as a diffuse light against the dark behind my closed eyes. The flashing is about 4 cps.

The sensations you will feel in your chakras can vary, according to the degree of activity occurring in them, i.e., your physical make up, natural ability, concentration and relaxation skills affect this. It can vary from a gentle warmth, a localized pressure, or bubbling, a localized dizziness, a tingling, a gentle pulsing, to a heavier throbbing, or a combination of some or all of the above. The heavier the thrumming, the more active the chakra. ToPOBEr • modern • Bruce

Effect of the Chakras on Body Development

Their effect upon the physical body is strong, for it is believed that the physical body shapes itself around the chakra. An overblown third chakra would show in a big, tight belly; a constricted fifth chakra results in tight shoulders and a sore throat; a poor connection through the first chakra may show up in skinny legs or bad knees. The shape of our physical body may even be determined by our development of chakras in former lives, to be picked up and continued again in this life. (Judith 18)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

Nadis — Lesser Vortexes

While chakras are our major vortexes, the body is filled with many smaller vortexes called nadis.

There are certain energy-carriers, or Nadis. . . . There are 72,000 of these. . . . The Hindus say . . . “They are not composed of physical matter but of astral matter”. . . . These energy-carriers are the storage centres and the chief means of circulating the prana. (Muldoon 149)PotABOBEr • Spiritualism • Muldoon

There are said to be twenty-one minor distributing centers. . . . These minor centers, which are called nadis in Indian Tantrism, differ from true chakras in that they are primarily concentration points where there is a greater flow of energy. . . . The only subsidiary centers which are noteworthy in the context of this study are those in the palm of each hand and in the sole of each foot, as these are important in the practice of healing or therapeutic touch. Each Chakra in Detail

There are varying accounts of the chakras, with varying meanings for each, but most contain common themes. Let’s briefly go over what they are.

1) The Root Chakra — Muladhara

The first chakra is known as the survival chakra.

The root chakra lies at the base of the spine. It corresponds with the archetypal theme of the primal womb. . . . The ego . . . has not yet separated the world into duality. . . . It is the source of the energy of life; Kundalini lies coiled here. . . .

Confidence, trust and feeling safe are therefore functions of Muladhara. Prenatal, birth and early life experiences create the stresses that lodge in Muladhara. These early factors largely determine our orientation toward the world in all our subsequent years. . . .

Being grounded and at one with life indicates a properly functioning first chakra. Sympathetic resonance with the electromagnetic frequency of the earth (7.8 Hz) is a function of Muladhara. . . . Being out of tune with the natural vibration of the earth leads to greater stress. (MSI 328-330)Ewisdom • modern, Hindu • Isham

The first chakra, the coccygeal center (1), is related to the quantity of physical energy and the will to live in the physical reality. . . . The coccyx acts as an energy pump on the etheric level, helping direct the flow of energy up the spine.

This statement of physical potency, combined with the will to live, gives the individual a “presence” of power and vitality. He makes a statement, “I am here now”. . . . He often acts as a generator by energizing those around him, recharging their energy systems. . . .

When the coccygeal center is blocked or closed, most of the physical vitality of the life force is blocked, and the person does not make a strong impression in the physical world. He is not “here.” He will avoid physical activity, will be low in energy and may even be “sickly.” (Brennan 72)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

2) The Sacral/Spleen Chakra — Svadhisthana

The second chakra is known as the pleasure chakra.

The second layer and second chakra are in general associated with the emotional aspects of human beings. They are the vehicles through which we have our emotional life and feelings. (Brennan 43)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

The pubic center (chakra 2A) is related to the quality of love for the opposite sex that the person is able to have. When it is open, it facilitates giving and receiving sexual and physical pleasure. . . .

The sacral center (chakra 2B) is related to the quantity of sexual energy of a person. With this center open, a person feels his sexual power. . . .

The sacral acts as a pair with the pubic chakra. At the two points where the front and rear centers come together, in the heart of the chakra, in the spine, the life force exhibits its second most powerful physical urge and purpose—that of the desire for sexual union. . . .

[Orgasm] revitalizes and cleanses the body with an energy bath. It rids the body system of clogged energy, waste products and deep tension. (Brennan 72-73)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

3) The Solar Plexus, Navel Chakra — Manipura

The third chakra is known as the power chakra.

The third chakra is the gathering point of the streams of subtle energy called nadis that control all functions of the body. It regulates the flow of vital energies throughout the body. . . .

An undeveloped third chakra leads to power or ego trips and the attempt to control others by forcing them to the ego’s will. Arrogance stems from an undeveloped third; on the other hand, charm, warmth, generosity and a sunny disposition radiate from an open third. (MSI 332)Ewisdom • modern, Hindu • Isham

As the Emotional Chakra

[The solar plexus chakra] is the most active center of emotional energy in the majority of people. It is the bridge between the emotions and the physical/etheric, its closest physical connection being with the stomach and the whole gastro-intestinal tract. DVK has theorized that the astral solar plexus chakra acts as a shock absorber between the intake of astral energy and its dispersal through the body. (Karagulla and Kunz 56)

Fluctuations in rhythm, hyperactivity, and disturbances in the color patterns of this center indicate a person who is overidentified with his emotions, and cannot easily control his feelings.

This chakra is the most important with respect to the connection with the emotional field, since it is this point that the astral energy enters the etheric field.

In the life of an ordinary person, the solar plexus center is probably the most important and active of all the chakras, since it is very much involved in the emotional life. It is active in a person with strong desires and plays an important role in the projections of personal energy. For this reason, when stress of emotional problems affect the digestive system, this indicates disturbance in the solar plexus area. (Karagulla and Kunz 43)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

If [the solar plexus] center is open and functioning harmoniously, he will have a deeply fulfilling emotional life that does not overwhelm him. However, when this center is open but the protective membrane over it torn, he will have great uncontrolled extremes of emotions. . . .

If this center is closed, he will block his feelings, perhaps not feeling anything. (Brennan 75)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Where Fear Is Felt

The third chakra appears to be related to our emotional openness, and is the primary center where we experience fear. Fear is a physically-based emotion that doesn’t exist for us before we become physical. It’s our individual ability to close and reject experience. This might be the center from which we experience tunneling (see “Tunneling: Expansion and Contraction” in flow-into-us.php).

Chronic worry produces a disturbance in the solar plexus chakra at the emotional level. (Karagulla and Kunz 54)

States of anxiety appear as grayish-blue clouds within the astral field, localized toward the center of the body near the solar plexus chakra. (Karagulla and Kunz 50)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

4) The Heart Chakra — Anahata

The fourth chakra is known as the love chakra.

[The heart chakra] is linked with the higher dimensions of consciousness and with one’s sense of being. . . . The heart center registers the quality and power of love in the individual’s life. When a person has transformed personal desires and passions into a wider and more universal compassion and love for his fellows, the heart becomes the focus of energies which were formerly concentrated in the solar plexus. In meditation, the student is encouraged to focus on the heart center, in order to strengthen its connection with the core of the crown chakra. This brings about a state of true balance in the body, for the heart center is really the point of integration in the whole chakra system, and therefore has an important overall balancing effect. The heart center acts as a primary factor in spiritual transformation. (Karagulla and Kunz 42)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The heart chakra (chakra 4A) is the center through which we love. Through it flows the energy of connectedness with all life. The more open this center becomes, the greater is our capacity to love an ever widening circle of life. . . .

Through this center, we connect cords to heart centers of those with whom we have a love relationship. . . . When this chakra is open, the person can see the whole individual within his fellow man. He can see the uniqueness and inner beauty and light in each individual as well as the negative or undeveloped aspects. In the negative state (closed), the person has trouble loving, loving in the sense of giving love without expecting anything in return. (Brennan 76)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

5) The Throat Chakra — Vishudda

[The throat chakra] is particularly associated with rhythm and sound. In those who are clairaudient, or sensitive to sounds which are physically inaudible, the petals of this center will be larger than average and more luminous. (Karagulla and Kunz 55)

[The throat chakra] is also prominent in musicians and composers, and indeed in those engaged in creative work of any kind, for this chakra indicates a sensitivity to color and form as well as sound and rhythm. (Karagulla and Kunz 41)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Chakra five is the center of sound, vibration, and self-expression. It is the realm of consciousness that controls, creates, transmits, and receives communication. (Judith 260-261)

When the opening of the fifth chakra occurs, the person within becomes aware of the world around him on a “vibrational” level. . . .

Our perceptions, through any of the senses, are a function of perceiving rhythm. Hearing sound waves and seeing light waves are only two. The very mechanism through which nerve fibers feed information to our brain is one of rhythmic pulsations of energy. (Judith 260-261)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

6) The Third Eye/Brow Chakra — Ajna

The root is the seat of the physical body; the heart is the seat of the emotional body; the sixth is the seat of the mental body. . . .

Our experience of reality is based on projection of our beliefs and judgments. . . .

When both the petals of ajna are in balance, the individual is open and receptive to the world, to emotions and to intuition. Instead of manipulating life, the inherent nature of the Universe is directly understood; life is lived in harmony with Natural Law. . . . Latent abilities open new vistas; we perceive our essential unity with all that is. (MSI 338-340)Ewisdom • modern, Hindu • Isham

The sixth centre . . . has the appearance of being divided into halves, one chiefly rose-coloured . . . and the other predominantly a kind of purplish-blue. . . . Perhaps it is for this reason that this centre is mentioned in Indian books as having only two petals. . . . Each half is subdivided into forty-eight . . . making ninety-six in all, because its primary force has that number of radiations.

This sudden leap from 16 to 96 spokes, and again the even more startling variation from 96 to 972 between this and the next chakra, show us that we are now dealing with centres of an altogether different order from those which we have hitherto been considering. (Leadbeater 13-14)Cclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

In structure, the brow chakra differs from the other centers in that it appears to be divided into two segments, one half colored rose and yellow, the other blue and purple. This center is linked with the pituitary gland; interestingly, this gland is also composed of two parts, each of which has a separate function. This is the chakra which is mainly concerned with the integration of ideas and experience with capacity for organization. . . .

When it is interconnected primarily with the throat center, this indicates an active use of the creative imagination. . . .

It could be said that the creative aspect of the self is transmitted from the brow chakra where it is conceptualized, to the throat chakra, where it is vitalized. (Karagulla and Kunz 40-41)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

7) The Crown Chakra — Sahasrara

The crown chakra . . . is usually larger than the others, and is the dominant seat of consciousness.

The topmost chakra is located about six centimeters above the crown of the head. Saucerlike in shape, it consists of 12 golden central petals, with a complex of 960 secondary petals arranged around them: thus it is called the “thousand-petaled lotus” in Indian Tantrism. These petals display all the colors of the rainbow, with violet predominating. . . .

The size, variation in color, speed of rotation, rhythm, degree of brilliance, texture and elasticity, as well as the development of the interconnections with other centers, all indicate the quality and character of the whole personality and the strength of its connection with the inmost self. If the core of the chakra shines very brilliantly, this usually indicates meditation is practiced.

The size of the core, as well as its other characteristics, gives an indication of the individual’s ability to expand in consciousness, or even to achieve continuity of consciousness between the waking and sleeping states, for this is the center through which we normally exit in sleep. (Karagulla and Kunz 36-37, 39)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The seventh centre . . . is when stirred into full activity the most resplendent of all, full of indescribable chromatic effects and vibrating with almost inconceivable rapidity. . . .

This chakra is usually the last to be awakened. (Leadbeater 15)Cclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

If the seventh chakra is closed, the accumulated wisdom and purpose of the soul through its many births remains unconscious. On the other hand, an open seventh becomes a channel of communication to the higher soul, Cosmic Mind. (MSI 340)Ewisdom • modern, Hindu • Isham

Purpose of the Chakras

Each frequency domain contains a sea of energy. In each, we have a body, and a chakra that is the interface between that body and the surrounding sea. Our changing focus alters the chakras’ positions between open, closed, and reversed, resulting in different flows (or no flow) from the sea into the individual body.

The chakras CAUSE consciousness as we know it.

In the world of the mind, chakras are patterns of consciousness—belief systems through which we experience and create our world around us. (Judith 2)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

The chakras connect our consciousness with our bodies. (MSI 325)Ewisdom • modern, Hindu • Isham

The chakras of the auric body have three major functions:

1. To vitalize each auric body and, thus, the physical body.

2. To bring about the development of different aspects of self-consciousness. . . .

3. To transmit energy between the auric levels. Each auric layer has its own set of seven major chakras. (Brennan 45, 48)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

I would add to these that the chakras serve as senses, receiving and transmitting emotions and thoughts.

Energy Transformation and Transmission

Interaction Between the Higher Bodies

The chakras are superphysical centers or organs through which the energies of the different fields are synchronized and distributed to the physical body. They are more or less active on the astral, mental and (to some extent) on even higher levels, in which they have different roles, but they are of primary importance at the etheric level, where they serve as instruments for the focusing of energy in the body. . . .

The etheric, astral and mental vehicles each contain seven major centers of force. . . . In both form and mode of motion they resemble a wheel, with the central core acting as the hub, around which petal-like structures revolve. Through this core, the energies of the different fields focus and circulate, and around it the energies whirl centrifugally and pulsate rhythmically. . . . The cores or hearts of the centers are points of interaction where energy flows from one field or level into another. These are also associated with specific abilities or powers of consciousness related to one or another of the other fields. . . .

It is important to note that the chakras are both the transmitters and the transformers of energy from field to field, for their mechanism synchronizes the emotional, mental and the etheric energies. They step the energy up or down, or slow or speed it up, from one field to another, so that the faster energy of the emotional field can affect the slower energy of the etheric, as well as the reverse. . . .

Yet it must not be inferred that the chakras are separate from the fields themselves, as might be implied by the way they appear in the diagrams. They are vortices which concentrate the energy within the fields, just as whirlpools are formations in and of water. Therefore any important change in the energy field is immediately apparent in the chakras, and most easily observed there. (Karagulla and Kunz 33-35)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The astral matter within a man, for example, is not only capable of receiving a vibration from etheric matter and transmitting it to the mental matter, but it is also quite capable of receiving impressions from the surrounding matter of its own plane, and transmitting those through the mental body to the real man within. . . . In order to do either of these things . . . he must learn to focus his consciousness in his astral body or in his mental body. (Leadbeater 12-13)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The energy of the mental field is stepped down as it passes through the chakras, and can in this way have a direct effect on the physical body if it is not blocked at the emotional level, which is sometimes the case. . . .

If there is a disturbance in one of the mental centers, it will be transmitted to the emotional and etheric levels, but it is more usual for the disturbance to occur at the astral level. An astral disturbance will not only affect the etheric chakra but also inhibit the energy coming in from the mental level. The whole process is very complex. Harmonics Across Frequency Domains

From clairvoyants we learn that the personality includes three types of energy fields—the etheric or vital, the astral or emotional, and the mental—all of which surround and interpenetrate every cell of the physical body. The interplay among these three fields may be likened to what a musician calls the major chord, which is composed of three frequencies that in combination with four other notes form an octave of seven frequencies. . . . Every human being emits a unique tonal pattern which is created by his individual energy fields working in unison. (Karagulla and Kunz 2)

The harmonics of the chakras in the etheric, astral, and mental fields is an important factor, for dissonance can give rise to disease in that part of the body which the center serves. Studies of a chakra made in the three levels have established some information regarding the harmonics of the chakra system. For example, if we assume that the speed of the etheric center is one, then the astral center’s speed of rotation should be double and the mental center’s four times that rate, i.e., a ratio of 1:2:4. In actuality, of course, the rates are much higher, but this ratio would indicate that the chakras are working together harmoniously. If, on the other hand, the rate of an astral center is higher than that of the mental, as for example 1:5:3, the possibility of dissonance and disease associated with that astral center is indicated. In any case, it shows that the patient’s emotions, not his mind, control his physical responses. (Karagulla and Kunz 99)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The Slowing Harmonics of Thoughts

Every man possesses [these vehicles] NOTE: the higher bodies from the beginning. . . . We are constantly using to a certain extent this higher matter within ourselves. . . . Every time that we think, we set in motion the mental matter within us, and a thought is clearly visible to a clairvoyant as a vibration in that matter. . . . But before this thought can be effective on the physical plane, it has to be transferred from that mental matter into astral matter; and when it has excited similar vibrations in that, the astral matter in its turn affects the etheric matter, creating sympathetic vibrations in it; and that in turn acts upon the denser physical matter, the grey matter of the brain.

Thought appears to be an instantaneous process; but it is not, for every thought has to go through the stages which I have described. (Leadbeater 11-12)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

We’re aware of our thoughts at the mental level, not at the point where it reaches the brain. But they are reflected in the physical body’s movements and actions.

Reaching the Physical Body

John: “Picture the entire physical body . . . as a physical organ for the expression of the soul. Then picture the patterns of individual thought extending along the body’s various meridians. In this way, the soul’s thoughts are extended into the physical body and manifest in specific properties within the various organs.” (John 152)

John: “Chakra points correspond to the various glands. . . . These are the portals through which the soul manifests itself in the physical.” (John 180)

John: “It is through the seven major chakras within the physical body that the soul makes its imprint on the earth plane.” (John 229)SCchanneled • modern • Ryerson & Harolde

Energy Interchange and Communication

Each chakra acts as a receiver of energy in its own particular frequency domain. When open, each chakra is pulling energy in from the sea of same-frequency energy around it. In doing so, it acts as both an energy source and a sense, as that sea is full of signals, like ripples in water. These signals are the results of the thoughts and feelings of ourselves and others. When we quiet our mind and open up, we can listen to the signals around us.

The energy that flows into us is directed into the focus of our attention, which shapes and colors it through our own thoughts, emotions, and experiences (see “How We Direct the Flow” in flow-into-us.php). At this point it flows out back into the sea of energy, where the energy is dispersed and can be picked up by others who are open.

Communication between different people at these levels is equivalent to subconscious communication (see “Constant Subconscious Telepathy” in communication.php).

We live and move in a vast and complicated ocean of energies. These energies move in and out of our own individual fields. (Karagulla 161)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

Like the physical body, which is continually disintegrating and rebuilding itself, the etheric, emotional and mental fields are constantly changing, but at a much more rapid rate. The chakras are involved in this change. . . .

The centers are never static; their speed of rotation is both rapid and variable according to the state of health and the quality of the flow. The whole process is analogous to the mechanism of respiration, for the energy is, as it were, breathed in and breathed out by the living human being. The energy pours in through the core of the chakra, reaches the spine via its stalk, then flows along the tiny pathways of the etheric body which are connected with the physical nervous system. It finally returns to the chakras, moving outward in spirals through the periphery of the petals, in constant intake and outflow. These spirals of energy become wider and wider during the circulation process, gradually blending and fading into the whole field of the etheric body, and then dispersing into the universal field, just as our expelled breath becomes part of the whole atmosphere of the earth. (Karagulla and Kunz 34-36)

Consciousness is a basic factor in self-actualization and self-transformation, and this, of course, is reflected in the chakras. These can and do change in response to modifications in our thinking and feeling, as well as in our patterns of behavior. (Karagulla and Kunz 167)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

We can feel the emotional signals coming off of a person through our chakras, and express our emotional signals in return.

The most salient characteristic of the kamic elementals NOTE: astral bodies is sensation, the power of not only answering to vibrations but of feeling them. . . . Any being who possesses, then, a body into which these elementals are built, is capable of feeling, and man feels through such a body. (Besant 7)Kclairvoyant • Theosophy • Besant

Broadcasting and Receiving of Thoughts and Feelings

Being open and happy produces a strong and steady flow. It’s the constrictions caused by fear that produce waves in the flow, signals. Little hitches in the flow are themselves communications. The moment we freeze up, the flow goes cold, until we eventually relax and warm again. These signals are the emotional subtext of any situation.

All of our chakras radiate constantly. . . . We . . . constantly radiate psychic signals of fear, joy, or anger, even when we may have no particular intention of doing so. (Judith 71)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

Because our chakras continually receive and send out energy, we are continually being affected by and affecting others, sometimes in positive ways, sometimes not. . . .

If your energies are strong, you will have an immediate impact upon anyone who comes into your presence. Specifically what kind of impact will depend on the condition of the other person’s energy system. Someone who has weak energies or is not feeling well may be intimidated, overwhelmed or wiped out in your presence; that person also could be energized by you. If the other person also has strong energies, there is likely to be better balance and a better rapport—a feeling of being equal. . . .

When you become aware of a strong reaction to another person but do not understand that reaction, seek to know the area or chakra of your body where you feel this energy most strongly. (Paulson 143-144)KatCclairvoyant • modern • Paulson

When a healthy person is in a calm and happy state of mind, the energy flows evenly and smoothly. . . . When an individual is full of affection this is transmitted to the body in the form of increased balanced energy. If there is no emotional conflict, the etheric energy is strengthened and enhanced. (Karagulla and Kunz 31)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

When you want someone to have certain energies, such as confidence or peace, feel that in your energies and usually it will reflect in the other person. Sometimes you may be angry over another’s lack of calm or peace, but this only makes matters worse. (Paulson 147)KatCclairvoyant • modern • Paulson

We broadcast and receive signals, but this can also be seen as a raw energy exchange. See the section in “The Give & Take of Energy” below for some of the many interesting ways this plays out.

Streaming Thoughts

This tall being is coming down a pathway of light and is wearing a brilliant robe. It’s embroidered with light forms of different kinds. . . .

Everything is in movement, including the robe he has on. I can see live vibrations in everything. In fact, the colors in his robe change; there are different patterns as they change. Now the color of the instrument on his head is changing. It was plain, when I first noticed it—without color. But as he sends thoughts, colors seem to flash from the instrument. (McKnight 191)CJOBEr • modern • McKnight

Recall that the appearance of robes is a physical translation of the aura. The “instrument on his head” is a translation of his sixth chakra.

Openness of Chakras

Chakras are vortexes. The flow through a vortex is based on the size of the opening. We can open, close, and reverse our chakras, thus affecting the flow of energy & sensation through them.

When a chakra closes, sensation is cut off. The chakra may reverse and the reason why it closed is then projected outwards. It’s like closing our eyes when we think we see a monster. That monster continues to exist until we open our eyes again.

Chakras are the mechanism for projection and tunneling, through opening, closing, and reversing.

Each of these vortices exchanges energy with the UEF NOTE: Universal Energy Field. Thus, when we speak of feeling “open,” that is literally true. All the major chakras, minor chakras, lesser chakras and acupuncture points are openings for energy to flow into and out of the aura. . . . Since this energy is always associated with a form of consciousness, we experience the energy we exchange in terms of seeing, hearing, sensing, intuiting, or direct knowing.

Therefore, we can see that staying “open” means two things. First, it means metabolizing a lot of energy from the universal energy field through all the chakras, large and small. Second, it means letting in, and in some way dealing with, all the consciousness that is associated with the energy that is flowing through us. That is not an easy task, and most of us cannot do it. There would simply be too much input. . . . We therefore work in whatever growth process we are in to open each chakra slowly, so that we have time to process the personal material that is released and integrate the new information into our life.

It is important to open the chakras and increase our energy flow, because the more energy we let flow, the healthier we are. Illness in the system is caused by an imbalance of energy or a blocking of the flow of energy. (Brennan 45)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Someone with a very closed third chakra (personal power) would be terrified of making a public speech, while another may thrive on it. Someone with an open second chakra (sexuality) may juggle many sexual partners, while someone who is closed may have difficulty maintaining even one relationship. (Judith 23-24)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

We feel taller when we have all the chakras open. We expand.

The chakras CAUSE consciousness as we know it. We feel
taller when we have them all open. Taller and taller. We expand.
Details: This is a spine, with chakra energy centers coming off (I drew too many).
The Most Open Chakra

We experience energy primarily through our most open chakras. If your sexual chakra is the most open, then regardless of what you receive from others, you will experience it on the sexual level. Not only that, but the other person’s energy will primarily go out the sexual level. If your heart chakra is the most open, you tend to experience life as love. (Paulson 143)KatCclairvoyant • modern • Paulson

This appears to be a sort of primary filter or focus on your experience.

Our ever-changing focus determines what chakra is most opened. It determines the primary point at which the flow from above (universal) meets the flow from below (physical). Where it meets is the chakra of primary focus. The focus shifts from chakra to chakra as we change what we’re thinking about. I can push my focus to any chakra by focusing my attention there. This chakra becomes the most open one.

Our focus aligns with the energy of different chakras, and we essentially see the world through that energy while doing so. Each has a different perspective of the world. Each is an energy sensor operating in a different frequency.

I’m controlling where each chakra is focused. Some were in other times and places, focused on past experiences. I gather them here to the present, check them one by one. It’s hardest to bring my root chakra back. I finally do and I feel the ground, so earthy.

Chakras are psychic senses, points of communication. We can mentally be focused anywhere in the world — far away, in imagined situations, in stories in other lands, in the past. By conscious effort, we can refocus the chakras in the here and now and experience our present physical life through them, gaining energy and awareness through them.

Closed Chakras — Rejection

Being open or closed to our experience is what opens or closes our access to this energy.

Certain activities or stimuli key in or give access to this ocean of energy. . . . Grief or self-centeredness, for example, appear to greatly diminish the individual’s access to this energy supply. (Karagulla 161)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

In the company of someone whose chakras are blocked, you may feel shut out, as if that person wants nothing to do with you. This may not be the case at all. . . .

There are some very positive benefits to openness: a sense of connection, strength, cuddliness, or of not being alone in the world. (Paulson 145-146)KatCclairvoyant • modern • Paulson

This is the direct perception of the flow coming from a person. For more, see “Love & Fear — Being Open or Closed” in flow-into-us.

All of our chakras radiate constantly. . . . Our nervous systems are constantly bombarded by harsh, conflicting rhythms. The body becomes overstimulated, and soon the internal systems lose their delicate balance. We dull our senses in order to withstand the imbalance. . . .

When too much abrasive energy is found in our surroundings, the chakras will close down to protect the subtle body from this caustic invasion. Overloaded chakras are difficult to open. Grounding is a way to channel this excess tension. . . .

Even simple physical touch can help a lot to ground someone in intense pain. (Judith 71-72)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

Most of us react to unpleasant experiences by blocking our feeling and stopping a great deal of our natural energy flow. . . . When the energy flow through the heart chakra is stopped or slowed down, the development of the heart chakra is affected. Eventually, a physical problem will very likely result. . . .

Whenever a person blocks whatever experience he is having, he in turn blocks his chakras, which eventually become disfigured. The chakras become “blocked,” clogged with stagnated energy, spin irregularly, or backwards (counterclockwise) and even, in the case of disease, become severely distorted or torn. . . .

Most people I have observed have three or four chakras spinning counterclockwise at any one time. . . . Since chakras are not only metabolizers of energy, but also devices that sense energy, they serve to tell us about the world around us. If we “close” chakras, we do not let that information come in. (Brennan 71)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Reversed Chakras — Projection

When we make our chakras flow counterclockwise, we send our energy out into the world, sense what the energy is that we send out and say that it is the world. This is called projection in psychology. (Brennan 71-72)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

This is so important! Acceptance opens the chakra, rejection closes it, and projection reverses it. When spinning backwards, a chakra projects out the experience it would rather have; what it’s looking for. This fits perfectly with my psychedelic experiences of tunneling and projection. Our tunneling direction is the perspective of consciousness through the most open chakra.

This means that the chakras are where our focus switches from outward (experience) to inward (projection). We alter the spin by tunneling forward (being open — experiencing), stopping (being closed), or pulling backwards (projecting).

The forehead center (chakra 6A) is associated with the capacity to visualize and understand mental concepts. . . . If this center is counterclockwise, one has confused mental concepts, or images about reality that are not true and are usually negative. The person holding them projects them onto the world and creates his world by them. . . .

During the therapy process of purifying or sorting our negative belief images, when an image arises in the energy system and begins to function dominantly, this center will probably spin counterclockwise, even if it is usually clockwise. . . . With therapeutic help, the person will understand and see the image clearly for what it is. The center will then turn around and will spin clockwise. Usually this type of counterclockwise motion can be detected by the seasoned therapist because of the unstable quality of feeling accompanied by the counterclockwise motion. (Brennan 78)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Energizing the Body

In eastern esoteric literature, each of the chakras is seen as having a certain number of petals. On closer investigation, these petals appear to be small rotating vortices spinning at very high rates. Each vortex metabolizes an energy vibration that resonates at its particular spin frequency. The pelvic chakra, for example, has four small vortices and metabolizes four basic frequencies of energy. . . . The colors observed in each chakra are related to the frequency of energy being metabolized at its particular rate.

Since the chakras serve to vitalize the body they are directly related to any pathology in the body. . . . Each chakra is associated with an endocrine gland and major nerve plexus. The chakras absorb the universal or primary energy (ch’i, orgone, prana, etc.), break it up into component parts and then send it along energy rivers called nadis to the nervous system, the endocrine glands and then the blood to nourish the body. (Brennan 48)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Spin and Current

The openness of a chakra directly affects each chakra’s ability to draw in energy.

When the chakras are functioning normally, each will be “open,” spinning clockwise to metabolize the particular energies needed from the universal field. A clockwise spin draws energy from the UEF NOTE: Universal Energy Field into the chakra. . . . When a chakra spins counterclockwise, the current is flowing outward from the body, thus interfering with metabolism. (Brennan 71)

Energy can be seen flowing into all of these chakras from the Universal Energy Field. Each swirling vortex of energy appears to suck or entrain energy from the UEF. They appear to function as do fluid vortexes we are familiar with in water or in air such as whirlpools, cyclones, water spouts and hurricanes. The open end of a normal chakra in the first layer of the aura is about six inches in diameter at a distance of one inch from the body. (Brennan 45)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Chakras and Relationships

I find this section fascinating. It fits in really well with much of thoughts.php and communication.php as well! Consider if they should be brought together.

The Give and Take of Energy

The specialized life-force . . . is constantly radiating from the body in all directions. A man in perfect health, therefore, not only is able to impart some of it to another intentionally, but is also constantly though unconsciously shedding strength and vitality on those around him. On the other hand, a man who from weakness or other causes is unable to specialize for his own use a sufficient amount of the world’s life-force, sometimes, equally unconsciously, acts as a sponge and absorbs the already specialized vitality of any sensitive person who is unfortunate enough to come into contact with him. (Leadbeater 114)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Charismatic people have strong energy fields which they can use in positive or negative ways. . . .

Sometimes you will find that other people literally blow your mind with their forceful energies. You may be at a loss to answer the person, think clearly or verbalize your thoughts. . . . This type of person usually sends very strong energies from the third eye. . . .

Another’s strong energy flow from a particular chakra may snag you in that same chakra. . . . Concentrating on a higher chakra will help to balance things. . . .

Every thought and feeling you have about another person becomes an energy form which goes to that person. It affects the person on some level . . . NOTE: directed thought forms!

If you feel inundated with thoughts and feelings from others, imagine yourself surrounded with a psychic ultraviolet light. If the feelings or thoughts get stronger, they are yours; if they fade away, they are someone else’s. You may even be aware of the person sending them or see his or her face. The person probably does not mean any harm. There are many careless thoughts and feelings which pollute our air. (Paulson 145-146)KatCclairvoyant • modern • Paulson

Energy Leeches

Another popular name for those who drain other people’s energies is “psychic vampires” or “energy vampires”. The TV series What We Do in the Shadows has an excellent portrayal of an “energy vampire” named Colin Robinson who uses tedious conversation to sap people’s energy.

A number of the sensitives with whom I have worked have made repeated observations on individuals which we have come to designate as the “Sappers.” There are certain people who do not seem to be able to pick up their own energy from the surrounding ocean of energy which the sensitives describe. They appear to take their energy “pre-digested” from the people in their immediate vicinity. . . . “Sappers” are practically always very self-centered individuals.

The sensitive describes the sappers as having closed-in energy fields. . . . They simply feel better when they are in the company of more vital people. Any individual who remains in the vicinity of the sapper for too long begins to feel desperately exhausted for no reason that he can understand. This baffles and bewilders him. Eventually a deep instinct of self-preservation causes the victim of the sapper to feel an irresistible desire to get away. He may attribute this to any one of a number of reasons. By the time this happens he is usually feeling an unreasoning irritation with the sapper.

As soon as the victim of the sapper has escaped and begins to feel better, he looks at his recent behavior as being rather unreasonable. . . .

Some of these sappers pull energy from almost anyone in their vicinity. Others seem to be able to pull energy more easily from only certain people. The simply selfish person who wants things for himself or the attention of other people is not usually a sapper. . . . It is the self-centered person enclosed in his own orbit who lacks outgoingness to other people and the outside world. . . .

The energy pull from a victim is usually via the weakest vortex. . . .

There are several methods, according to the sensitives, by which sappers may pull energy. Some sappers appear to pull energy by using the voice. The extremely self-centered person who is a compulsive talker pulls the energy of his victim, whose attention he has gained, simply by talking. If the victim listened long enough his vital field and even his emotional and mental fields will being to wilt, grow dull and show a general condition which to the sensitive means he is very exhausted. . . .

Some sappers appear to use the eyes to pull energy. They look with a quiet, steady, unbroken focus at their victim. . . .

Those in an already weakened state always seem to be more distressed and more easily drained by the sapper. . . .

The sensitives describe a rather wide opening in the solar plexus area of the sapper in his vital field. Around the edges of this opening streamers or tentacles appear to shoot out and hook into the field of an individual in close proximity. The sapper often seems to have a desire to touch the person whom he is draining of energy or else to be as near as possible to him. . . .

A psychological evaluation of the sapper shows an individual who often speaks the language of altruism volubly. He will often talk a great deal about his concern and kindly interest in friends and acquaintances who are his victims. He will assure you that he would do anything for them, that they are wonderful people and they do him so much good. It requires more careful observation to realize that the sapper is nearly always extremely self-centered. (Karagulla 162-166, 169)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

People with low levels of energy may unconsciously drain or sap energy from others. Such people have not learned to absorb energy from the surrounding air, instead pulling it predigested from another person. . . . “Predigested” means that the energy has already been brought in by another person and transformed to a usable frequency; it is an easy way out.

People who for no apparent reason make you feel drained or irritable are sapping your energy. Energy pulled from you leaves you weakened. . . . You may look for excuses to get away from the sappers. . . .

Sometimes people become dependent on others’ energies. (Paulson 147)KatCclairvoyant • modern • Paulson

Oral sucking is closely related to verbal denial in that it is effective in sucking energy from those around in order to fill the person’s own field, which he usually is unable to do from the natural surrounding environment. . . . One can feel this form of sucking in verbal prattle that is boring and exhausting to the recipient, or see it in the “vacuum cleaner” eyes that some people possess. These people love to be around others in some form of socializing. There are other people who need to discharge an excess of energy (masochist types) who make good partners with the oral suckers. Together, they fill each other’s needs quite nicely. (Brennan 104)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

An example:

[Carrie] simply felt exhilarated and in great good spirits after an evening with guests.

A number of observations of Carrie at social events in the homes of other people proved interesting. At a cocktail party or reception she did not make much effort to circulate or talk to people. Instead she usually established herself in a comfortable chair with a good view of the people present. She would sit quietly with a pleasant dreamy look on her face and her eyes focused with a quiet intensity on one person after another. As time went by she would show a flush in her cheeks and a general brightness and alertness. . . . She could remain for hours in her chair making no particular effort at conversation or personal contact with the other guests. (Karagulla 166-167)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

Troublemakers

Often the emotionally focussed individual likes to stir up emotional scenes with those around him. When he does this the sensitive observes a brightening of the emotional and vital fields with little observable effect on the mental field. Those involved in the emotional scene often appear depleted and seem to lose energy. The individual creating the scene appears to achieve a sense of well-being and to be energized. . . .

Other people seem to achieve this emotional sense of well-being from the excitement of danger, from fast driving, from needling other people or from an argument. In such cases it is primarily the emotional and vital fields that are energized. (Karagulla 160)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

I’ve often seen a child’s happy face while annoying someone, or when bickering. He kicks up trouble, then smiles away at the annoyance of others, perhaps denying he did anything for an extra kick.

Chakras in Relationships

Relationship Cords

Some clairvoyants can see cords of energy between people in close relationships. These are the nothing less than the very energy bridges between them.

See “The Energy Bridge” in communication.php.

When people fall in love, beautiful arcs of rose light can be seen between their hearts. . . . When people form relationships with each other, they grow cords out of the chakras that connect them. These cords exist on many levels of the auric field in addition to the astral. The longer and deeper the relationship, the more cords and the stronger they are. (Brennan 51-52)

People in relationships grow cords of energy between each other. These are connected through the chakras. In a healthy relationship these cords are clear bright gold, balanced and connected through most of the chakras. In a lot of relationships, these cords simply repeat the unhealthy connections that were there from childhood between parent and child. Many of these cords connect in the solar plexus and are dark in color. During the process of transforming a relationship from unhealthy to healthy, the unhealthy cords must be disconnected, energized and reconnected deep into the individual’s own core. (Brennan 259)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

The sensitive often describes bright lines of energy connecting two people who may be in opposite ends of the room at a social gathering. It may be between a husband and wife who are devoted to each other or people who have some vital and intense interest in each other. (Karagulla 161)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

People who have strong mutual feelings establish energy ties which bind them even when they are not physically together. The bind may be at the heart, brow, navel, or sexual chakras, or combinations of the chakras. . . .

When one person of a married couple starts sending energy to a third person, his or her mate may notice something is missing. . . .

When there are connections at all chakra levels, the partners have a feeling of blending and really fitting together. Relationships with an easy flow and strong contacts have a stronger chance of lasting. . . . Too strong a tie may represent a loss of individuality. Sometimes one person takes on characteristics of the other. This is one reason we should be careful with whom we have our deepest contact. (Paulson 144)KatCclairvoyant • modern • Paulson

Michael: A cord is a psychic connection with another person that transmits energy. . . . Cords allow parents to provide supplemental life support for their children until they can become energetically independent (during adolescence). . . . Adults can “run” a couple of small children off their “battery.” . . . The size of cords can vary: one that is large can seriously drain someone’s energy. . . .

Cording among adults is common. Most people both cord others and are corded by others. There may be a net loss of energy, a net gain, or it may come out equal. However, it is preferable for adults not to allow anyone to cord them. . . .

Cording is not the same as a shared bond, which does not take energy from another but provides connection. A shared bond looks similar to a cord, but it does not transmit a substantial amount of energy. It is more like a telephone line that is available when needed for communication. (Hoodwin 252-253)JoYSchanneled • modern • Hoodwin

Torn Cords

Dependence on someone happens when we get certain types and amounts of energy from another person, rather than from the Universal Energy Field. This isn’t healthy, and becomes part of the feeling of loss when a relationship ends and the cord/source is severed.

When relationships end, those cords are torn, sometimes causing a great deal of pain. The period of “getting over” a relationship is usually a period of disconnecting those cords on the lower levels of the field and rerooting them within the self. (Brennan 52)

I have heard bereaved people speak of feeling torn apart or of losing their better half. In such a serious trauma, one feels as if one’s whole front has been torn off. This is literally true. Many times I see those threads from the solar plexus dangling about in space after such a painful separation. (Brennan 260)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Michael: When you release a major cord, you may find that it leaves a “stub,” or at least some rawness, if not an “open wound.” . . . If the wound is open, it is easier for others to re-cord you. (Hoodwin 253)JoYSchanneled • modern • Hoodwin

Chakra Dominance

It is . . . possible that an open chakra may dominate another’s closed chakra if it’s on the same level. John, who is open in the fifth chakra, is paired with Randall, who is closed. Therefore John does all the talking, and Randall retreats into greater silence. Or take the examples of Bill and Tara. Bill’s openness on the third chakra level keeps Tara, who is weak in that area, at a constant disadvantage, heightening her feeling of powerlessness. If he can be sensitive about this issue, she can learn from him and they will gradually balance out. (Judith 429)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

Shared Chakra Patterns

Living together creates a situation where all people in a group tend to block or open the same chakras. Children pick up many of their parents’ attitudes and feelings, even on a subliminal level, getting clues that certain chakras should be closed or open at certain times; without anyone’s realizing it, the child takes on the parents’ ways of relating to the world. (Paulson 146)KatCclairvoyant • modern • Paulson

Habitual Behavior

Through involvement with the outside world, patterns within the chakras tend to perpetuate themselves; hence the idea of karma (patterns formed through past action). . . . It is common to become trapped in the self-perpetuating action of any one of the chakras. This is called being “stuck” in a chakra. (Judith 22)WoLiresearcher • modern • Judith

See “Habits of Thought” in thoughts.php.

The Performer-Audience Connection

As [a man] sings, his aura expands and brightens. Bright lightning-like flashes and sparks of iridescent blue-violet move off just after the movement of inhaling, before he starts each new line. As the audience becomes more attentive, its general aura expands. Great arcs of light reach out from the singer to the audience, and the two auras connect. Mutual forms begin to build as feelings flow between performer and audience. These energy-consciousness forms relate in structure and color to the mutual thoughts and feelings of the group and the music being created. At the end of the song, these forms are disconnected and broken up by the applause, which acts as an eraser to wipe the field clean for the next creation. Both performer and audience are energized by absorbing the energy created by the music. Some of this energy will be internalized to break blocks held in the body; some of it will be used for the next creation.

As another person lectures on his favorite subject, his aura expands and becomes yellow-gold with silvery-gold or iridescent blue sparks. . . . The same speaker-audience phenomenon occurs, this time with an emphasis on the mental energies, which show up as yellow-gold. After the lecture, his aura remains expanded from some time, as he is high from his work. There has been a mutual exchange of energy consciousness. Some of the audience now vibrates more at his level. (Brennan 90-91)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

When an actor or actress is performing before an audience . . . the emotional field of the actor seems to glow and expand and extend outward until it includes the whole audience. . . . What might be called a unified emotional field results for the duration of the performance. When the performance is over, the clapping of the audience breaks the unified field and each person is seen by the clairvoyant as again functioning within his own separated emotional field. If the performer is not able to achieve this unified field he does not reach his audience and they will say that the performance was mediocre or poor. . . .

Basil Gill, the great Shakespearian actor in England in the early part of the century . . . said that when he walked on the stage he felt a rush of uplifting golden energy enfold him from the audience, as if his own energy had been magnified a thousand times. Then he seemed to move out and enfold the whole audience in his own sense of exhilaration as he portrayed a Shakespearian character and moved through the action of the drama. He felt that he and the audience together were intimately a part of a moving experience of reality until the curtain came down on the final scene. Then something snapped like a rubber band as the applause started and he was himself again instead of the character in the play. (Karagulla 161-162)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

What these performers are feeling is the light of attention from the audience, and the audience is entraining to the performer, which created the shared energy field.

See “Feeling the Light” in attention.php and “Entrainment - Our Connection” in communication.php.

Energetic Defenses

People use their fields in defensive ways to protect them from an imagined unpleasant experience. They organized their entire auric fields into what I call an energetic defense system. (Brennan 101)

All of us use a combination of several of these blocks. . . .

We all create blocks because we see the world as unsafe. . . . Our energetic defense systems are designed to repel, to defend aggressively or passively against an incoming force. (Brennan 104)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Similarly to verbal defenses and physical posturing, which are learned, these different energetic defenses likely go in and out of fashion over the years, learned through social interaction with and witnessing others’ defenses.

Disturbances in the Chakras

On the even-numbered layers of the field, disease takes the form of . . . blocks . . . undercharged, overcharged or clogged dark energy. On the structured layers of the field, disease takes the form of disfiguration, disruption or entanglement. There may be holes in the grid structure on any of the odd-numbered layers of the aura. (Brennan 142)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

The vital energy field may be dull or bright. The brighter it is, the healthier the individual. If there are localized patches of dullness a tendency to disease in these areas is indicated. That part of the vital field which extends outside the physical body shows radiating lines of energy. If these radiating lines of energy are at right angles to the physical body the vitality is good. If these lines of energy droop downward the person is listless and lacks vitality. (Karagulla 184-185)

The whole web of energy may appear to [Diane] as tightly woven or loosely woven, as coarse or fine, as dull or bright. It may extend as much as two inches beyond the physical body or less than an inch. In conditions of disease it may show a wide range of disturbances. There may be loss in the energy field, breaks in the pattern, tiny whirlpools of energy that have broken off from the normal stream, gaps in the web, or a jumble of lines of force like scar tissue. (Karagulla 127-128)

When the vital field shows a slightly broken up and grainy appearance in any area this indicates the area of disease in the physical body. . . .

In the case of an individual who has intense periods of depression, Laura observes a leaking of energy in the vital field and the emotional field shows a great deal of gray color. (Karagulla 200-201)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

Dysrhythmia and Disease

Our observations showed that when changes occurred in the centers in the form of dysrhythmia, especially if there was a reversal of the movement from clockwise to counterclockwise, the potential for disease was very marked. If this was accompanied by other changes, whether in color, degree of brightness, form or texture, the malfunctioning was exaggerated. In addition, if the core of the center displayed a conflicting dual movement, that is, turning both clockwise and counterclockwise, within a few years the patient was likely to develop a growth, probably cancerous, related to those parts of the body supplied by that center. This opinion is based on a number of cases where the observations were made years before the onset of disease. (Karagulla and Kunz 99)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Since chakra reversal is projection, then this implies that projection leads to a disease state. Projection is a diversion of the flow into past experiences, which reverses our focus into the past, depriving us of new energy so long as the focus remains.

If a chakra is imbalanced, disease will result. The more imbalanced a chakra is, the more serious the disease. . . . The spiral cones of energy that make up these vortices may be fast or slow, jerky or lopsided. Sometimes breaks in the energy pattern can be observed. A spiral cone may be fully or partially collapsed or inverted. . . .

A torn chakra . . . has appeared in every cancer patient I have seen. Again the configurations listed here go out to the seventh layer. A chakra can be torn, and the cancer may not appear in the body until two or more years later. The protective shield is completely ripped away from this chakra. No disease related to an etheric chakra was ever found when the center itself was perceived to be absolutely normal. (Karagulla and Kunz 101)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

[Diane] insists that any disturbance in the physical structure itself is preceded and later accompanied by disturbances in this energy body or field. . . .

If any of these major vortices show a dullness or irregularity or “leak” in the central point or core, she looks for some serious pathology in the physical body in the area. If the pattern of the cone of energy is out of rhythm or shows a “break or crack” she finds that it is related to a problem of function in the area. (Karagulla 124-126)BtCresearcher • modern • Karagulla

Leaks

DVK: Every time the center, during its rotation, comes to the place where the leak is, this produces confusion in the rhythm. It is as if the energy is disturbed as it passes through into the body. (Karagulla and Kunz 100)

A break in the petals or in the core of one of the astral centers, leading to a leakage of energy, will tend to make that center and the energy supplied to the corresponding part of the body more vulnerable; this may or may not lead to illness or some kind of serious physical condition. (Karagulla and Kunz 55)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Torn Chakras and Influences

The effect of a torn seventh layer is loss of a lot of energy from the field. In addition to energy loss, the patient is subject to all kinds of outside influences that affect him not only psychologically, but physically. The field is unable to repel incoming energies that are not healthy for the system to assimilate. (Brennan 143, 145)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Harmonic Dissonance

At times the etheric and astral centers may be interrelated and the mental out of harmony; if the color gray appears predominately in an astral center this indicates that there is a blockage between the emotional and mental fields. . . .

If the astral body is generally disturbed, the energy will flow toward one particular chakra, usually that at the solar plexus. . . . When there is a steady and harmonious rhythm between the astral and etheric chakras, a good inner relationship is indicated, whereas disharmony and dissonance may lead to disease. (Karagulla and Kunz 54-55)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Psychological Diseases

We have found that psychological patterns described by therapists are connected to the human energy field in predictable locations, shapes and colors. (Brennan 72)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Negative Emotions

When there are chronic disturbances on the emotional level, such as continuous hostility or anxiety, the energy discharge is disordered, and this can eventually damage the whole system. . . . Fear and depression tend to cut down the normal flow of energy, so that organs like the kidneys become less able to function normally. . . .

Just as too little energy is damaging, so also is the effect of too much. If the energy flow is too rapid, it can be used up quickly, resulting in a depletion of the body’s reservoir of energy. Tension will also deplete energy reserves, and this can have sudden effects at the physical level. (Karagulla and Kunz 31)

If, for example, a person is emotionally upset over a period of time, this energy goes through the whole of the etheric field as well as the emotional field, and therefore it reacts upon the body’s organs such as the kidneys. Conversely, when the body is under stress, some of the outward flow from the etheric through the chakras in turn affects the emotional field. (Karagulla and Kunz 35)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

As you might imagine, there is a science to the flows of energy through the chakras and energy bodies and how they effect each other and the physical body. It’s as large and complex as modern medicine, but likely far more effective, as it is dealing with causes further up the stream from the physical.

Chakra and Energy Body Development

Stages of Chakra Development (HoL)

Babyhood — Turning Focus to the Physical

Brennan has observed the development of the chakras from babyhood to adulthood. It begins with the root chakra, then gradually development moves to the second, third, and so on as a child grows up.

Babies begin by establishing their root chakra, their connection to the physical world.

The process of slowly awakening to the physical world continues after birth. The baby sleeps frequently during this time; the soul occupies its higher energy bodies. It leaves the physical and etheric bodies disengaged and allows them to be very busy doing the work of body building. . . .

They still have some awareness in the spiritual world, and I have seen them struggling to let go of spiritual playmates and parent figures and to transfer affections to the new parents. The newborns I have observed have very wide open crown chakras. . . . They go through an enormous struggle in opening the lower root chakra connecting to the earth. . . .

One such example of this was a boy born one month later than expected. . . . The child was struggling to let go of two playmates and a spirit woman who did not want to let go either. In his struggle, he would open and connect with the earth whenever his guide was present. Then he would lose contact with his guide, see his playmates and the woman, and struggle fiercely between the two worlds. He felt more affinity with the spirit woman than his own physical mother at those times. . . . After a time of struggle, he would again connect with his guide and calm down, open the root and start the incoming process again. . . .

The incoming soul often enters and leaves the body through the crown chakra as it begins working on opening the root chakra to grow roots into the physical plane. The root chakra looks like a very narrow funnel, and the crown chakra looks like a very wide funnel at this stage. . . . The general field of a baby is amorphous, formless, and has a bluish or grayish color. (Brennan 63-64)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

See also “The First Two Years - Higher Contact” in reincarnation.php.

Developing the Energy Body

As a baby fixes his attention on an object in the physical plane, the aura tenses and brightens, especially around the head. Then, as his attention fades, the aura fades in color; however, it retains some of the experience in the form of color in the aura. Each experience adds a little color to the aura and enhances its individuality. (Brennan 64)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

These experiences form the previous impressions that build up and define our personality.

Development of Self and Protection of the Chakras

Open and Impressionable

The child’s chakras are all open in the sense that there is no protective film over them which screens out the incoming psychic influences. This makes the child very vulnerable and impressionable. Thus, even though the chakras are not developed like those of an adult, and the energy that comes into them is experienced in a vague way, it still goes right into the field of the child, and the child must deal with it in some way. . . .

Adult rage shocks the child’s system like physical shock, while grief and depression swamp it like a fog.

In addition to the physical nourishment, breast-feeding gives etheric energy to the child. There is a small chakra in each nipple which supplies the baby with energy. Remember, the baby’s chakras are not developed and so do not metabolize all the energies from the universal energy field needed to sustain life. (Brennan 64-65)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

In this way we absorb and develop behavior patterns based on our parents’ emotional responses. Because of their openness, this is true regardless of whether these emotions are expressed or not.

Selfhood Defined by Objects

Selfhood apart from the parents begins to be defined as the second chakra is developed.

As a child grows and the second chakra begins to develop, the child’s emotional life becomes enriched. The child weaves a fantasy world in which to live, she begins to feel like a separate person from the mother, and these worlds help create that separation. Within these fantasy worlds are the child’s possessions. She will send amoeba-like projections from her etheric field out and around these objects. The more important the object in building the fantasy world, the more energy-consciousness from her field with which she will surround it. The object becomes part of the self. When this object is grabbed forcefully from the hand of a child, it tears the field and causes pain, both physical and emotional, to the child.

Beginning around the age of two, the child sees his parents as belonging to him, “me, my daddy, my mommy, etc.” The colors red-orange and rosy-pink become more visible in the aura. The child is learning to relate to another, learning a basic kind of love. . . . The child prefers to play alone, or if a playmate is allowed in, the playmate is carefully watched so as not to allow too much disturbance of the space. At this stage the child does not have a strong enough ego to maintain a real clarity between self and other. She struggles to find her uniqueness, and yet still feels very connected to all things. Personal objects become ways of defining individuation. The private energy space helps this definition. Thus, when another child comes to visit the room of a five to seven year old, the hostess struggles between wanting the communication with another and preserving the image of self. So she struggles to control personal objects that help define who she is and around which she has placed her own energy-consciousness. (Brennan 65-66)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

We can see adults caught up in stages as far back as this one.

Age 7 — Protective Screens

At around the age of seven, a protective screen is formed over the chakra openings that filters out a lot of the incoming influences from the universal energy field. Thus, the child is no longer as vulnerable as before. (Brennan 64)

At around the age of seven, the child begins to weave a lot of gold energy into this [fantasy] space. The space becomes freer, larger, less connected to mommy and more open to visitors. Having a greater sense of self, the child now begins to see her similarities to other humans. She can now allow the “other” a greater self-expression within her private space. A visitor is allowed to create all manner of energy forms within her private space. This makes things more “fun” and “lively” and enhances fantasy life. Children go into the “gang” stage. One of the things that makes this all possible is that, by the age of about seven, all the chakras now have a protecting screen over them that filters out many of the energetic influences from the field around her. The child feels “safer” because in her auric bodies she really is. (Brennan 66)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Age 7 to Adolescence — Mental Development

Around age 7, the third chakra begins to develop.

As the child grows into latency between seven and puberty, the development of more mental faculties occurs, along with the development of the third chakra. . . . The mental energies are primarily used to enhance the fantasy life of the child. . . . The child becomes the Indian chief, the princess, Wonder Woman. . . . Within these archetypal forms are found the deep spiritual longings of the individual, the goals and aspirations, as expressed by the qualities played out in the backyard or the school playground. (Brennan 67)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Adolescence — Development of Relationships

The fourth chakra and relationships becomes the focus at puberty.

As the child approaches puberty, large changes start occurring all through the body and the surrounding energy field. More green is added to the aura and the individual’s private space. The space becomes infused with “vibes” from friends. As the heart chakra opens to new levels of feelings, and the dawning of eros and love emerge from deep within the psyche, the beautiful color of rose fill (sic) the field. The pituitary (third eye chakra) is activated, and the body begins to mature to that of an adult. All the chakras are affected by these changes. These new higher vibrations are sometimes embraced with excitement by the individual and at other times are loathed because they bring with them new longings and new vulnerability that the individual has not yet experienced. . . .

The individual now repeats all the stages of growth that he has experienced but with a difference. The first three stages involved the self as the center of the universe. . . . Now it is an “I-thou” relationship. . . . The individual no longer “owns” the love object as he did in the case of his parents or toys. (Brennan 67)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Adulthood

By the end of adolescence, the chakras and energy pattern used by the individual are now set. All chakras have taken on an adult form. It is at this point that the individual may try to settle down and have no more changes. Some are able to accomplish this and with it cause their lives to stagnate into safe, set, patterns of clearly defined and limited reality. Most people, sufficiently shaken by their life experiences, see that reality is not so easily definable and continue a lifelong search for meaning that leads them through constant challenge to deeper experiences of fulfillment.

As the individual approaches old age and death, even more higher-vibration rates can be added to the energy bodies. . . . The lower earthly energy, metabolized though the lower chakras, decreases and is steadily replaced by higher finer energies having much more to do with spirit than life on the physical plane. . . . The solar plexus chakra, especially, becomes more harmonious.(Brennan 67-68)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

The Etheric Body

The Etheric Body

Almost exactly co-extensive with and interpenetrating [man’s] visible form is his etheric double. (Leadbeater 6)

The etheric matter of which we have spoken and the denser matter ordinarily recognized as belonging to the brain are really both parts of one and the same physical organism. . . . Neither can be affected without instantly producing some reaction on the other. (Leadbeater 10)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

This ‘double’ NOTE: etheric body is born with man, dies with him, and can never separate itself far from the body during life. . . .

It is not created; it grows . . . with the man and exists in the rudimentary condition even before the child is born. (Blavatsky 168-169)SiOresearcher • Theosophy • Blavatsky

The Physical Template

[The etheric body] has the same structure as the physical body including all the anatomical parts and all the organs.

The etheric body consists of a definite structure of lines of force, or energy matrix, upon which the physical matter of the body tissues is shaped and anchored. The physical tissues exist as such only because of the vital field behind them; that is, the field prior to, not a result of, the human body. . . . Through the use of High Sense Perception, we observed that an energy field matrix in the shape of a leaf is projected by the plant prior to the growth of a leaf, and then the leaf grows into that already existing form. (Brennan 49)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

The design or idea exists first, slightly up the stream. It’s the more essential reality that the physical grows on top of. After an injury, the physical body grows back into the form of the etheric body. Continuing:

The etheric is not only the vehicle of the life force or prana; it also furnishes the basic pattern according to which the physical body is built. (Karagulla and Kunz 29)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

When an organ is removed, the etheric organ can still be reconstructed and serve to keep harmony in the auric bodies above the physical body. (Brennan 143)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Appearance of the Etheric Body

The etheric body is composed of tiny energy lines “like a sparkling web of light beams”. . . .

The web-like structure of the etheric body is in constant motion. To clairvoyant vision, sparks of bluish-white light move along its energy lines throughout the entire dense physical body. The etheric body extends from one quarter to two inches beyond the physical body and pulsates about 15-20 cycles per minute.

The color of the etheric body varies from light blue to gray. The light blue color has been connected to a finer form than the gray. That is, a more sensitive person with a sensitive body will tend to have a bluish first layer, whereas a more athletic, robust type of person will tend to have a more grayish etheric body. . . . This etheric substance sets up the matrix for the cells to grow; i.e., the cells of the body grow along the lines of energy of the etheric matrix, and that matrix is there before the cells grow. . . .

You may be able to see the pulsations of this etheric body. The pulsation rises, say at the shoulder, and then makes its way down the arm, like a wave. (Brennan 49-50)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

To the clairvoyant, the etheric body looks like a luminous web of fine bright lines of force which, in a healthy person, stand out at right angles to the surface of the skin. Its texture may be fine-grained or coarse, a characteristic which repeats itself in the physical body type. . . .

The color of the etheric body is a pale blue-gray or violet-gray, slightly luminous and shimmering, like heat waves above the earth on hot days. In the average person it extends from five to seven centimeters (two to three inches) beyond the periphery of the physical body, gradually fading away into the enveloping ocean of etheric energy. This ocean of energy is in constant rapid motion, and surrounds the body much as the atmosphere surrounds the earth. (Karagulla and Kunz 30)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Attributes of the Etheric Body

The first [characteristic of the etheric body] is color: normally, pale violet or blue-gray.

The second is degree of brightness: this may vary from strongly luminous to dull, but should be uniform throughout.

The third is motion: movement should be rhythmic throughout the field, but may be fast, average or slow.

The fourth is form: size, shape and symmetry are all important.

The fifth is angle: the etheric should stand out at right angles to the physical body; if it is droopy in part or as a whole, this indicates ill health.

The sixth is elasticity: the ability of the etheric to stretch and expand is a sign of health.

The seventh is texture: the quality should be firm and fairly fine; if it is coarse, porous, spongy, thin or broken, it should be noted whether this condition is generalized or limited to a section of the etheric field, for this indicates some kind of illness or abnormality. (Karagulla and Kunz 91-92)

In individuals who have some higher sense perception, especially telepathy, the etheric seems to be finer in texture than in the average person, and also slightly larger and more rhythmic. . . .

[Healers’] etheric fields seem to have more elasticity than the average, thus enabling them to transmit energy to the patient. (Karagulla and Kunz 93)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Disturbances in the Etheric Body

If a person is ill, the outline of the etheric body becomes uneven and the normal energy flow through the chakras is reduced. . . .

When the energy pattern is closely knit, it is very resistant to invasion from the outside world, but when loose and porous it can be penetrated more easily, and therefore the subject is apt to take in whatever may be in the surrounding environment. (Karagulla and Kunz 92-93)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Purpose of the Etheric Body

Providing Energy

[The etheric double] is not in any sense a separate vehicle, but must be considered simply as part of the physical body. . . . This etheric matter is the link between the astral and the physical, but it has also a very important function as the vehicle of the vital force on the physical plane. (Leadbeater 112)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The most important function of the etheric body is the transfer of life energy or vitality from the universal field to the individual field, and thence to the physical body. . . .

At the etheric level, the individual field is conditioned and vitalized by the life force or etheric energy which pours in through its major centers or chakras. . . .

Human beings are sustained by a sea of nourishing energies. (Karagulla and Kunz 28-29)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

[The etheric double’s] absence from the body is generally marked by the heaviness or semi-lethargy of the latter. Acting as the reservoir, or vehicle, of the life-principle during earth-life, its withdrawal from the body is naturally marked by the lowering of all vital functions, even while the cord which unites the two is still unbroken. (Besant 22)DAclairvoyant • Theosophy • Besant

Absorbing and Distributing Prana

The etheric is the first energy body, and corresponds to the second chakra (the spleen chakra). Together they provide energy to the physical body by metabolizing the universal energy field (prana).

The principal functions of the etheric chakras are to absorb and distribute prana or vital energy to the etheric body and, through it, to the physical body, and to maintain dynamic connections with the corresponding chakras in the emotional and mental bodies. One of the functions of the chakras is to coordinate the interaction among the various fields. The condition of the physical body is affected not only by the rate of etheric energy flow, but also by the degree of harmony in its rhythm, and any obstructions which deform the normal energy patterns result in loss of vitality and ill health. (Karagulla and Kunz 38)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Now this etheric double has often been called the vehicle of the human life-ether, or vital force (called in Sanskrit prana) . . . The etheric part of his spleen . . . absorbs this universal life, and specializes it into prana, so that it may be more readily assimilable by his body. . . . It then courses all over that body, running along every nerve-thread in tiny globules of lovely rose light, causing the glow of life and health and activity to penetrate every atom of the etheric double. . . . When the rose-colored particles have been absorbed, the superfluous life-ether finally radiates from the body in every direction as bluish white light. (Leadbeater 7-8)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

After [the vital force] NOTE: prana has been absorbed into the human body through the spleen, however, these particles take on a beautiful pale rose-color, and they flow in a constant stream over and through the whole body along the nerves . . . the brain being the centre of this nervous circulation. . . .

This flow is necessary to the proper working of the nerves, for when it is withdrawn there is no sensation. (Leadbeater 113)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Via the Second Chakra

This absorption and metabolism of prana has also been attributed to the second chakra (the spleen chakra) at what appears to be the astral level.

[The spleen chakra’s] most important function is to absorb vitality from the general field, modify it, and then distribute it to the other centers. It is believed that each of the colors present in this chakra has a vibratory affinity with the other chakras in which that particular color is dominant and that by this means the other chakras are continuously vitalized. . . .

This center usually has a radiant and glowing appearance. Since it is the main transmitter of prana or life energy to the physical body, its most important function lies in its ability to absorb and distribute vitality. (Karagulla and Kunz 43-44)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

[The vitality globule] is almost colourless, and shines with a white or slightly golden light. But as soon as it is drawn into the vortex of the force-centre at the spleen, it is decomposed and breaks up into streams of different colours, though it does not follow exactly our division of the spectrum. As its component atoms are whirled round the vortex, each of the six spokes seizes upon one of them, so that all the atoms charged with yellow flow along one, and all those charged with green along another, and so on, while the seventh disappears through the centre of the vortex. Propagation of Nerve Sensation

Acharya: [The etheric double] is not a body in the ordinary sense of the word in that you cannot live in it, as you can in your physical body; you cannot even see it, unless you have developed the lowest form of clairvoyance—which is called etheric sight.

The matter of which this etheric body is composed, also surrounds our nerves. . . . The nerve currents do not actually run along the white thread of the physical nerve, but along a coating of etheric matter which surrounds it, so that if this coating is removed from the physical nerve, we do not get any sensation. This is what happens when an anaesthetic is used. In the case of a local anaesthetic, the etheric matter which conducts the feeling is driven away a short distance from the particular nerve. . . . When a much more powerful general anaesthetic is given for a major operation, which necessitates the patient being unconscious and devoid of feeling for a considerable time, the etheric matter is driven away almost entirely from the dense body. If it is entirely driven out, then the patient dies; this is what has happened when a patient occasionally dies while under the effect of an anaesthetic. (Richelieu 15-16)ASJOBEr • modern (Theosophy) • Richelieu

TO DO: Look into what exactly anesthesia does to nerves. Novocain blocks nerve transmissions by blocking sodium channels.

The transmission of impression to the brain depends rather upon its regular flow along the etheric portion of the nerve-threads than upon the mere vibration of the particles of their denser and visible portion, as is commonly supposed. . . .

When a finger becomes entirely numbed with cold, it is incapable of feeling. . . .

The reason why the frozen finger seems dead, and the blood is unable to circulate through its vessels, is because the rosy life-ether is no longer coursing along the nerve-threads. . . . Though matter in the etheric condition is invisible to ordinary sight, it is still purely physical, and, therefore, can be affected by the action of cold or heat. (Leadbeater 8-9)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The Etheric Chakras

In the etheric double . . . [the chakras] show themselves as saucer-like depressions or vortices in its surface. When quite undeveloped they appear as small circles about two inches in diameter, glowing dully in the ordinary man; but when awakened and vivified they are seen as blazing, coruscating whirlpools, much increased in size, and resembling miniature suns. . . . The etheric double . . . projects slightly beyond the outline of the dense body. . . . The stalk of the flower in each springs from a point in the spine, so another view might show the spine as a central stem. (Leadbeater 4)Cclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

All the chakras of this layer are the same color as the body. That is, they will also range between blue to gray in color. The chakras look like vortices made of a net of light, just like the rest of the etheric body. (Brennan 49)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Since etheric chakras are nets of light that range between blue and gray in color, it’s clear these aren’t the typical colorful chakras people describe. Those are the astral chakras.

The etheric chakras are most easily visualized as rapidly spinning vortices, which draw in energy at their cores in a tight flow and disperse it along the periphery of their petals in ever-widening spirals. The torrent of incoming energy from the general field pours into the chakras, and because of their pattern of organization, this produces a whirling or spinning motion. This flow does not affect their basic geometrical structure, however, for that remains constant. . . .

The etheric chakras, which lie on the surface of the etheric body, vary greatly in shade, brightness, size, rapidity of motion, rhythm and texture, some being finer, some coarser, depending upon individual idiosyncrasy and state of health. For this reason, the disease process is very apparent in the chakras, since it both disrupts their harmonic motion and changes the texture of their material. (Karagulla and Kunz 35-36)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The Etheric Aura (Health Aura)

It is well known that tiny particles of dense physical matter are constantly being thrown off from man’s body, in insensible perspiration and in other ways; and these particles also are visible to clairvoyant sight as a faint grey mist. These particles are in many cases crystals, and therefore are seen in certain geometrical forms; for example, the tiny cubes of sodium chloride or common salt, are among the most frequent. This purely physical part of man’s surrounding is sometimes called the health-aura. . . . It is a faint bluish-white, almost colorless, and has the appearance of being striated; that is, it is full of, or perhaps it might rather be said to be composed of, an infinitude of straight lines radiating evenly in all directions from the pores of the body. That at least is the normal condition of these lines when the body is in perfect health; they are separate, orderly, and as nearly parallel as their radiation allows. But on the advent of disease there is an instant change, the lines in the neighborhood of the part affected becoming erratic, and lying about in all directions in the wildest confusion, or drooping like the stems of faded flowers. . . .

The rigidity and parallelism of the lines of this health-aura are caused by the constant radiation of life-force from the healthy body; and as soon as this radiation ceases, the lines fall into the confused condition described above. . . . As long as the lines are firm and straight, and the force steadily radiates between them, the body seems to be almost entirely protected from the attack of evil physical influences, such as germs of disease, for example—such germs being repelled and carried away by the outrush of the life-force. (Leadbeater 115-116)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

In the same way, being open to the flow washes away any possible negative influences.

The Etheric as a Bridge

Our own thoughts pass from higher levels down through to the etheric to affect the physical brain.

Without [the etheric body] as a bridge to convey undulations of thought and feeling from the astral to the visible denser physical matter, the ego could make no use of the cells of his brain. (Leadbeater 3)Cclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

While the etheric is not in itself a vehicle of consciousness, it does transmit the stream of consciousness to the physical brain. (Karagulla and Kunz 30)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The Etheric Web Barrier

While the etheric is not in itself a vehicle of consciousness, it does transmit the stream of consciousness to the physical brain. . . . There is an etheric web of the finest texture that acts as a natural barrier between the etheric and astral fields, and protects the individual from opening communication between these two levels prematurely. . . . It is in effect a protective device, and its injury has serious consequences, since this opens the door to forces beyond the individual’s control. Among the factors reported to modify or tear this web are alcoholism and the continued use of narcotics and similar substances. (Karagulla and Kunz 30-31)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The astral and etheric centres are in very close correspondence. . . . Between them . . . is a sheath or web of closely woven texture, a sheath composed of a single layer of physical atoms much compressed and permeated by a special form of vital force. The divine life which normally descends from the astral body to the physical is so attuned as to pass through this with perfect ease, but it is an absolute barrier to all other forces. . . . This web is the protection provided by nature to prevent a premature opening up of communication between the planes. . . .

It is this which under normal conditions prevents clear recollection of what has happened during sleep, and it is this also which causes the momentary unconsciousness which always occurs at death. But for this merciful provision the ordinary man . . . could at any moment be brought by any astral entity under the influence of forces to cope with which would be entirely beyond his strength. He would be liable to constant obsession by any being on the astral plane who desired to seize upon his vehicles. . . .

Any injury to this web is a serious disaster. . . . Any great shock to the astral body, such for example as a sudden terrible fright, may rend apart this delicate organism and, as it is commonly expressed, drive the man mad. A tremendous outburst of anger may also produce the same effect. Indeed it may follow upon any exceedingly strong emotion of an evil character which produces a kind of explosion in the astral body. The Astral Body

The Astral Body

The astral body is the most well-known of the higher bodies. It is the body we occupy in the dream state, during OBEs, NDEs, and after death.

The astral body exists outside the physical universe, but it is part of the physically-oriented self. Thus we carry all kinds of physical projections, expectations, and perceived limitations while in it. This is what can make experiences at that frequency so strange — we are applying physical forms and rules to a nonphysical world; one that operates by different laws.

In the astral body you do not have any physical organs, i.e., eyes. You are a non-physical point of consciousness floating in space. You are also unaffected by gravity and other laws of physics. In this state there are no ups or downs, backs or fronts, left or rights. It is only lifelong habit that tries to force this perspective on you during projection. ToPOBEr • modern • Bruce

John: “The astral body is the pattern of energy that keeps your personality structure in containment, so that you function upon this level rather than slipping into levels of lives past. Composition of the Astral Body

[The astral body] is composed exclusively of astral matter, and is, in fact, the expression of the man on the astral plane, just as his physical body is the expression of him on the lower levels of the physical plane. (Leadbeater 11)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

During my NDE, I observed that my body was made up of vibrant bits of colored light, a kind of shimmering shape very like the texture of the rest of the place I was in. (Hall 10 Volume XVII, Number 1)VSNDEr, researcher • modern • many

The other me had a body of light, closely resembling my normal, physical self. I did not glow with light, nor was I illuminated, but I was aware of being composed entirely of light. I climbed out of bed, stepping onto an ankle that had never known an injury. . . .

There is no feeling of weight in my body. (Roads 4-5)IaTROBEr, LDer • modern • Roads

My arm sparkled like a thousand points of brilliant blue and white lights. . . . I became mesmerized by the depth and beauty of the lights. . . . My arm appeared to be a universe of stars. (Buhlman 10)

Instead of molecules, my nonphysical body appeared to be made up of countless tiny points of interconnected light. . . .

I see a sparkling, bluish white form. . . . I seem to know that I’m looking at my nonphysical body from a different perspective. . . . This form . . . shines and flows with energy and light. . . . It radiates a bluish glow but seems to have a defined outer structure. . . . Even though my body looks firm, there is a noticeable energy motion and radiation present. I can see what appears to be an ocean of blue stars throughout my body. . . . The stars are stable, yet moving at the same time; the light and energy of my body appear to change and flow like waves of an ocean. (Buhlman 33-34)

Composed of Sound

Some NDEers assert that in addition to being composed of colored frequencies of light, we are also constituted out of sound. “I realized that each person and thing has its own musical tone range as well as its own color range,” says an Arizona housewife who had an NDE during childbirth. “If you can imagine yourself effortlessly moving in and out among prismatic rays of light and hearing each person’s musical notes join and harmonize with your own when you touch or pass them, you would have some idea of the unseen world.” (Talbot 248)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

Sound is another way that a nonphysical experience can be experienced in physical terms.

Impervious to Harm

The astral body is merely a projection, even though it may seem physically real. It cannot be harmed in any way. Though we may project any amount of harm on it through our expectations, it is merely an image, and returns to normal once we withdraw our attention from the injury.

Once I dreamed I was shot in the head, and found a dent there, but was otherwise unharmed. And doubtless the moment I put my attention elsewhere, it returned to its normal state. See the dream Suicide & Dream Fire.

And then there’s this hilarious example:

I see a boy in the kitchen, then a man. How did they get in with all the doors locked? Then with some elation I discern: “It’s a dream; now I can experiment.” I remember that I have thought, among other things, of trying murder in a lucid dream, and so I attempt to tear the boy limb from limb, but I cannot make the least impression on his body with my hands. The experiment is distasteful and I desist.

The Qualities of the Astral Body (Newton)

Newton’s hypnotic regression subjects only specify a single layer of soul, but one that goes through many levels of development. Each has a color according to its development, and has its own preferred ways of expression. Newton’s subjects speak from the point of view of an individual incarnation with access to the knowledge of the reincarnating self. This places them in the astral state of consciousness.

Soul Color

Another feature of soul identity [is] the possession of a particular color aura. (Newton 27)

Spiritual energy has been described to me as a moving, living force. . . . Every soul generates a specific color aura. (Newton 97-98)

Case 16:

Dr. N: Are you saying these guides radiate energy which is not white? . . . What color are they?

S: Yellow, of course.

Dr. N: So all guides radiate yellow energy?

S: No, they don’t. . . . Karla’s teacher is Valairs. He is blue. . . . Valairs . . . precedes all of us in knowledge and he gives off a darker intensity of light. . . . Blue is deeper than yellow and yellow is more intense than white, depending on how far along you are. . . . [Karla and Valairs] both have a heavier, more steady light than me. . . . I’m turning reddish-white. Eventually, I’ll have light gold. Recently I’ve noticed Karla turning a little darker yellow. I expected it. She is so knowledgeable and good.

Dr. N: Really, and then will she eventually take her energy level to dark blue in intensity?

S: No, to a light blue at first. It’s always gradual, as our energy becomes more dense. . . .

Dr. N: Look around again. Do you see all the energy colors equally represented by souls in this area?

S: Oh no! Mostly white, some yellows, and few blues. (Newton 99-101)JoShypnosis • modern • Newton

Level I: (stage 1) white, (stage 2) off-white gray/grayish with tints of pink

Level II: (stage 3) white and reddish pink, (stage 4) light orange yellow with tints of white

Level III: (stage 5) yellow (stage 6) deep gold/gold with tints of green

Level IV: (stage 6 again), (stage 7) green or brownish green

Level V: (stage 8) light blue; light blue with gold, green or or brown tints (stage 9) deep blue

Level VI: (stage 9 again), (stage 10) deep blue with tints of purple

Higher Levels: (stage 11) purple (Newton 171)DoShypnosis • modern • Newton

Note that this follows the pattern of colors visible to the human eye, with red at the lower frequencies through purple at the higher frequencies. This is information being presented in the physical terms we’re familiar with.

The energy of radiated light from cooler stars in the sky is a red-orange, while the hotter stars increase from yellow to blue-white. . . .

As souls, the density, color, and form of light we radiate is proportional to the power of our knowledge and perception as represented by increasing concentrations of light matter as we develop. Individual patterns of energy not only display who we are, but indicate the degree of ability to heal others and regenerate ourselves.

People in hypnosis speak of colors to describe how souls appear, especially from a distance, when they are shapeless. From my cases, I have learned the more advanced souls project masses of faster moving energy particles which are reported to be blue in color, with the highest concentrations being purple. In the visible spectrum on Earth, blue-violet has the shortest wavelength. (Newton 101-102)JoShypnosis • modern • Newton

Wavelength and frequency have an inverse relationship. Lower wavelengths have higher frequencies. Thus, the more developed souls in the blues and violets are operating at shorter wavelengths, and thus higher frequencies. They are smaller and faster — both qualities of light approaching the Source.

Primary Chakra Focus

Case 33:

Dr. N: When you look at Roy’s focal point of energy, what do you see?

S: I see a concentration of pinkish-yellow coming from the middle of his body form—the place where the solar plexus would be. . . . Roy’s strongest point of personal power in his lives is his gut, regardless of his body. He has nerves of steel. . . . Larry has his greatest development from his head. He has been a creative thinker in many lives. . . . [Natalie’s] power essence is developing faster from the heart area because of her compassion. . . . Mine comes from the throat, because of my communication skills through speech in some lives and singing in my current life. (Newton 181)DoShypnosis • modern • Newton

This is a general feature of consciousness. see “The Most Open Chakra” above.

Soul Names

Some hypnosis subjects have difficulty in producing spiritual names. These subjects say the names of souls in their minds consist of a vibrational resonance which is impossible to translate. . . .

Our own soul names can change a little as we evolve. I had one highly advanced subject tell me her name as a young soul was Vina, which had now changed to Kavina. I asked why, and Kavina replied that she was now a disciple of a senior guide called Karafina. (Newton 189-190)DoShypnosis • modern • Newton

Comparing Responsiveness and Clarity

The “feel” of the two nonphysical bodies are dramatically different. The energy-body I’m in now NOTE: the etheric body is much denser, almost physical when compared with the lightness of the second energy-body NOTE: the astral body.

With that experience, I realized that the first (dense) nonphysical body is actually an energy duplicate of the physical, while the second possesses a finer vibratory rate, like pure energy, ready to respond to the slightest thought. . . . I understand how limited the first energy-body really is. . . .

I requested clarity and firmly asked to experience my second energy form. . . . I felt a surge of energy and was instantly in a completely new environment. . . . Out of habit I asked for clarity and my mind became crystal clear. For the first time I truly understood what being conscious meant. My thoughts became faster, more vibrant and alive than ever before. . . . I felt incredibly expansive, without fears or limits. I realized that the physical state of consciousness is a dull perception, like a hazy dream. (Buhlman 29-30)

I shouted, “Clarity now!” My vision instantly snapped into focus. I felt a rush of energy and awareness flow through my body and mind. I was thrilled. For the first time I felt in complete control: my entire self-awareness was present, and I actually felt more aware than in my normal physical state of consciousness. My thoughts were crystal clear and vibrantly alive. (Buhlman 15-16)ABtBOBEr • modern • Buhlman

Each successive higher range of consciousness makes the slower ones seem dim, dull, and unreal in comparison.

Lightness of Astral Body

Faster frequencies of consciousness take us further from physical expectations and limitations.

Now, you feel your life force vibrating at a higher rate, and realize that the sense of weight seems to be dropping from you. You feel as light as a feather, and feel as though you could move without an effort. (Panchadasi 30)AWunknown • New Thought (Theosophy) • Atkinson

Clarity and Brightness Dependent on Development

[The astral body’s] appearance . . . differs very greatly according to the stage of development which the ego NOTE: reincarnating self to which it belongs has reached. In the case of the entirely uncultured and undeveloped person it is simply a floating wreath of mist, roughly ovoid in shape, but very irregular and indefinite in outline, while the figure within the mist (the denser astral counterpart of the physical body) is also vague, though generally recognizable. (Leadbeater 28)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The psychosoma NOTE: astral body always gives off some light, ranging from dim to exuberant. Its brightness is dependent upon the evolutionary level and condition of a consciousness and its environment. (Vieira 51)PotCOBEr • modern • Vieira

The Astral Chakras

Typically when we speak of the chakras, we’re referring to the astral chakras. While the first chakra absorbs physical earth energies, and the etheric absorbs prana through the second chakra, the astral body absorbs astral energy from the third chakra and up.

The astral energy normally enters the individual field via the solar plexus NOTE: third chakra. (Karagulla and Kunz 56)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

These astral centers are open to the great ocean of astral energy in which all living beings are immersed.

As the astral energy flows in and out of these centers from the universal field, it energizes and organizes the astral body or aura. These astral chakras are similar in form to the etheric being petal-like structures clustered around a central core. . . .

The astral chakras also act as interconnections with those at the etheric level, thus integrating the two fields. . . . Chronic worry produces a disturbance in the solar plexus chakra at the emotional level; this in turn creates a disturbance in the corresponding chakra at the etheric level, which directly affects the digestive tract and liver.

The astral chakras are always brighter than those on the etheric level. (Karagulla and Kunz 53-54)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The Astral Chakras Are Astral Sense Organs

Chakras act as senses since they are the openings to the sea of energy in their own particular frequency domains. When we are open at that frequency, we feel all the signals and vibrations happening in that sea.

Case No 728—Dr. B. J. F. Laubscher

“When the Astral Body is separated from the physical then the latter is incapable of experiencing any [physical] sensations. Hence, it is really the Astral Body which feels the sensations. The sense organs of the Astral Body, which are known to us are clairvoyance (astral seeing), clairaudience (astral hearing), telepathy, and foreknowledge.” (Crookall 88)CBAPresearcher • modern • Crookall

There are more as well. These different higher senses are actually all just one sense — the astral feeling sense. This can be interpreted in terms of any of the physical senses, though, making one appear as many.

These [astral] centres NOTE: chakras to some extent take the place of sense-organs for the astral body. . . .

Specialized organs are not necessary for the attainment of this result. There is matter in every part of the astral body which is capable of such response, and consequently the man functioning in that vehicle sees equally well the objects behind him, above him, and beneath him, without needing to turn his head. . . .

As all the particles of the astral body are constantly flowing and circling about like those of boiling water, all of them in turn pass through each of the centres or vortices, so that each centre in its turn evokes in all the particles of the body the power of receptivity to a certain set of vibrations. . . . But even when these astral senses are fully awakened it by no means follows that the man will be able to bring through into his physical body any consciousness of their action. (Leadbeater 75-76)

The first of these centres . . . is the home of the serpent-fire NOTE: kundalini. This force exists on all planes, and by its activity the rest of the centres are aroused. . . . When awakened it moved on to the second centre, corresponding to the physical spleen, and through it vitalized the whole astral body, enabling the person to travel consciously, though with only a vague conception as yet of what he encountered on his journeys.

Then it moved on to the third . . . thereby awakening in the astral body the power of feeling—a sensitiveness to all sorts of influences. . . .

The fourth centre, when awakened, endowed the man with the power to comprehend and sympathize with the vibrations of other astral entities, so that he could instinctively understand something of their feelings.

The awakening of the fifth, that corresponding to the throat, gave him the power of hearing on the astral plane. . . .

The development of the sixth . . . produced astral sight.

The arousing of the seventh . . . endowed him with the perfection of its faculties. (Leadbeater 72-73)Cclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

These senses are described in detail in “Higher Sense Perception” in higher-sense-perception.php.

Fluidity of Form

Our astral body’s form is simply a projection. As such it responds instantly to our thoughts and expectations about it. We can instantly take any form we like, but without attention on that form we fall back into the habitual form of our most recent physical body. When not focused in physical directions at all, we may return to our natural form — a point of light.

Consider the case of meeting up with a childhood friend that we haven’t seen in ages. That connection may call forth the related form we had at the time, and we may appear as the child we were when we knew them.

Angels (channeled): Each soul radiates a light that is unique and individual—all its own, yet not separate from that One Great Light. Each soul is “dressed” in this light, which can take on any form that soul wishes. (Fairchilde 57-58)VftAchanneled • modern • Fairchilde

The Astral Body Within the Physical Body

When the astral body is within the physical body, it largely takes on its form, with an aura surrounding it.

Acharya: The astral body, which is composed of much finer matter than the physical one, is drawn round the ego on his way down into incarnation. It fills what we call the causal body, forming an ovoid of luminous mist. But the physical body, being denser, has a very strong attraction for the astral matter, and draws this closer to it, so that we have an astral reproduction of the physical form in the centre of that ovoid, and there the astral body is just as recognizable by the features as the physical body, only it is built of finer matter. (Richelieu 17)ASJOBEr • modern (Theosophy) • Richelieu

As the child-form grows its influence steadily increases, until the adult has usually over ninety per cent of the matter of his astral and mental bodies within the periphery of his fleshy tabernacle. . . . Every one of [the particles] is in rapid motion and is constantly passing in and out; but on the whole that proportion is maintained. Therefore when, with astral sight, we examine a friend, what we really see is a human form of very dense and solid-looking mist surrounded by an egg-shaped cloud of diaphanous mist; and as every feature of the familiar countenance is faithfully reproduced, the man is instantly recognizable. (Leadbeater 73)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The Natural Bodiless Astral Form

The natural form of the astral body is a point of light that can perceive in all physical directions at once. But usually we project a duplicate of our physical body, and perceive in one direction as is our habit.

Note that in order to see ourselves in this form, we need to jump out to an outside perspective. This is quite natural to do as well. see “Jumping to an Outside Perspective” in higher-sense-perception.php.

The Astral Body Outside the Physical

When the astral body exits the physical body, the act of leaving can leave it in various strange shapes. This is usually temporary, and it soon expands into its habitual physical form.

Fluidity of Form

Another strikingly holographic feature of the OBE is the plasticity of the form a person assumes once they are out of the body. After detaching from the physical, OBEers sometimes find themselves in a ghostlike body that is a replica of their biological body. . . . Although some OBEers describe this phantom double NOTE: astral body as naked, others find themselves in bodies that are fully clothed. This suggests that the phantom double is not a permanent energy replica of the biological body, but is instead a kind of hologram that can assume many shapes. . . . There are numerous reports where people have also perceived themselves as balls of light, shapeless clouds of energy, and even no discernible form at all. (Talbot 234-235)

Others . . . describe themselves as “a cloud of colors,” “a mist,” “an energy pattern,” or “an energy field.” (Talbot 247)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

Several [of Whitton’s patients] said they didn’t even have a body unless they were thinking. “One man described it by saying that if he stopped thinking he was merely a cloud in an endless cloud, undifferentiated,” he observes. “But as soon as he started to think, he became himself.” (Talbot 247)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

Our Habitual Astral Form

For all practical purposes, of course, you will usually find yourself in some sort of body form in your out-of-body experiences. These are a necessary camouflage, for you cannot yet think of identity without some kind of body, so you project in such a form. (Roberts 316-317)SD&Pchanneled • modern • Seth

Our need for a body in the lucid NOTE: dream state is due in part to our past identity with a physical body, and our hesitancy to relinquish this identity. (Sparrow 19)LDDCLLDer • modern • Sparrow

Habit comes into play, and the astral and mental particles, having become accustomed to that form, retain it even when the dense body which caused it is destroyed, so that there is no more difficulty in recognizing a man after death than before it. Temporary changes may take place, for the finer matter may be moulded by a passing thought; but as soon as the pressure of that constraining thought is withdrawn, it slips back again into its usual shape. . . .

No man habitually images himself as decrepit, infirm, bowed, or wrinkled; and so, although immediately after death his astral body may accurately reproduce all these characteristics, the unconscious influence of his own thought of himself slowly brings back to him something of the appearance of the prime of life. . . .

A factor which has its share in helping to preserve the astral shape unchanged after death is the thought of others. When a man’s friends, whether living or dead, turn their thoughts upon him, they naturally think of him as they know him; but every such thought is a momentary moulding force, and in the aggregate the effect is considerable. . . .

Since this finer matter can be modelled by thought, the man is as he thinks of himself, and it is easy for each person to clothe himself as he will. If his attention is entirely occupied with some other matter, his mind usually automatically reproduces some ordinary costume with which it is familiar, so that he will probably appear in whatever dress he wears most frequently. I forget [my body], then remember it again. When I forget my body I am operating without it; my consciousness is in no way hampered but follows my pursuits. Then suddenly, like an absentminded professor, I realize that not my mind but my body has been absent, and without any transition I have it again. So most likely it is created unconsciously, out of habit. . . . I reattain it automatically, as on earth I might pause at the door, ready to go out, and remember my hat, putting it on without a thought. I no longer identify with my body, and of course it is not flesh and blood, though it seems to be when I want it to. (Roberts 165)

Seeing Inside or Through

Note the holographic form these often take — where one can see into or through the astral body. This is likely the fact that our astral perception is 4D, meaning we can see through and within forms as well.

We Appear in the Prime of Life

We tend towards appearing in the prime of life, as this is the self-image most of us have of ourselves. This self-image usually does not include any disabilities or imperfections, unless we consider them a part of our identity. As always, we project what we think of as ourselves.

This is an interesting case. Here the habitual form gives way to an intended or ideal state further up the stream at higher frequencies. The same occurs with children who die young and reach their prime in the astral. Somehow that ideal form exists even though it hasn’t been physically developed or experienced. Perhaps it’s from probable realities where they were healthy and whole?

Dying Young and Appearing Older

Those that die young also appear in the prime of life, though what must be a similar process.

“I have also spoken with a certain one who had died when an infant, and yet then appeared as an adult.” -Swedenborg, Arcana Coelestia (Rhodes 97)TtEresearcher • modern • Rhodes

It is the law that, as we progress spiritually, so do we shake off the semblance of age as it is known on earth. . . . We do, in truth, return—or advance, according to our age when we pass into spirit—towards what we have always known as “the prime of life”. (Borgia 25-26)LWUchanneled • modern • Benson

Form Follows Expectations and Thoughts

Form follows expectations and thoughts. This is the primary law of astral forms.

I was here in California, and my daughter in Oregon had had a baby. I wanted to go and see this child. . . .

One night I was cooking supper, waiting for my husband to come home, and I went in and lay down on the bed—still had on my apron from the kitchen. I dropped off into a semiconscious state and suddenly I was standing in my daughter’s home in Oregon. Her husband was home from work, and was holding and talking to the baby. Suddenly they both looked up and saw me standing in the door. They were very surprised. And their surprise, I guess, startled me back into my body. . . .

In a few minutes the phone rang. My daughter was wanting to know where I was—was I all right? They thought I was dead! They had seen me in Oregon! The funny part was—they didn’t see me with my apron; they saw me in my best dress, the one I’d just bought and was planning to wear when I went to Oregon. It seemed I just put it on and went! (Lynn and Cayce 4)NDchanneled • modern • Lynn & Cayce

Seeing her daughter was strongly associated with the new dress.

Form Following Thoughts

While deep in thought about a novel I was working on about werewolves, I noticed that the ghostly image of a werewolf’s body had formed around my own body. . . . I could actually see the individual hairs in the fur and the way the canine nails protruded from the wolfish hand that encased my own hand. . . .

As my thoughts strayed from the novel, the werewolf image slowly faded. (Talbot 180-181)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

I found myself in a strange room with a mirror. I walked over to the mirror and looked at it. At first I saw my own image, but without a beard--I only had a moustache. I thought to myself how much I looked like BA (CRA’s husband). My image slowly turned into BA’s image and I thought, “Hmm. Maybe I’m a counterpart of BA. But I have a beard and a moustache, and my image doesn’t reflect that.” I looked into the mirror again, trying to fix the image. I noticed the image wasn’t smiling; it had a very serious look on. So I smiled into the mirror and watched my image change.

My image changed slowly into the image of a woman I’ve never seen before, and then slowly turned into an image of DS, smiling! (DS is a member of our discussion group). I thought, “Whoa! That’s not me. I wonder if DS is a counterpart too!” I bid DS’s image farewell, and looked into the mirror and saw myself. This time I looked normal in all respects. I was smiling, and I noticed I was wearing the same clothes my body had on in bed. I thought, “Good.” OBEHWOBEr • modern • Peterson

Gradually Taking Form upon Exit of Body

Case No. 560—Ida B. Bates

“I saw a mist arise from the top of her head like a silver cord. It spread out and as it got about four feet above her it suddenly took on her natural form and looks. . . . I saw Uncle Charley take her hands and they passed right on through the ceiling before my very eyes.” (Crookall 10)CBAPresearcher • modern • Crookall

Case No. 701—Mrs. “R. M.”

When very ill in hospital, this lady felt “a wispy puff of cotton” float away from her body and go to the middle of the ward. There “it seemed to unravel itself into another version of me.” (Crookall 76)CBAPresearcher • modern • Crookall

It’s almost unheard-of for the perspective to remain in the physical body while the astral departs.

The doctor felt his true self to be somehow gathered in the area of his head, where he emerged through the sutures of the skull.

“I recollect distinctly,” he told the society in his report, “how I appeared to myself something like a jellyfish as regards to color and form.” . . .

He felt himself bobbing gently up and down until his exertions landed him squarely on the floor.

At that point, he gradually arose and expanded himself to the full stature of his regular physical body.

“I seemed to be translucent, of a bluish cast, and perfectly naked,” he said. . . .

As he reached the door, Dr. Wiltse observed that he was suddenly fully clothed. (Steiger 150-151)OwtLNDErs • modern • Steiger

Only the Upper Part Taking Form

Sometimes only the upper part of the body takes on a projected form. This is due to the focus on the areas of the body that are most important — the head and hands, and the upper body between them. The lower body and legs, as simply a means of getting around, can be easily overlooked as the body moves by desire and legs are not needed. This is the cause of the classic appearance of ghosts with their wispy bottom.

In this dimension one only kept the appearance of the upper portion of the body. (Yram 72)PAPOBEr • Yram

“It’s like I’m in a spiritual body that nobody could see, but there’s containment of me as a spiritual being. I’m not just floating out there as an amorphous body. Relaxing the Physical Form

In the early stages of OBE activity, you seem to retain the form of your physical body. . . . As you become more familiar with this other state of being, you may become less humanoid in shape. . . . For a short period [the body] retains the form of the mold; then it begins to melt around the edges and finally it becomes a liquid or blob. When this happens in an OBE, it takes only a thought for you to become totally human again in shape and form. (Monroe 5)UJOBEr • modern • Monroe

Consciously Changing Your Form

Because form follows thought, we can consciously change our astral appearance to anything we want.

You will finally learn to take many forms, as you choose, consciously. In one manner of speaking you do this now, you see, translating your . . . thought and emotions—quite literally but unconsciously into physical objects NOTE: projecting. You may find that when you imagine yourself as a child—after death—that you suddenly have the form of the child that you were. For a certain period of time, therefore, you can manipulate this form so that it takes any appearance that it had when it was connected with your physical form in the immediately previous physical life. . . .

Most individuals after death choose a more mature image that usually corresponds to the peak physical abilities. . . . Others choose instead to take the form they had at the particular point when the greatest mental or emotional heights were achieved, regardless of the beauty or age. . . .

You will feel comfortable with the form that you choose, therefore, and you will usually use it when you want to communicate with others you have known; though for such communications with the living, you may instead adopt the form you had when you were known to the individual. I have managed to change the length of my limbs and even to add extra limbs, tentacles, horns, flowers and flames growing from my fingers. The Astral Aura

The Astral Aura

The “aura” as generally considered refers to the astral aura.

The astral aura is the formless counterpart of the astral body. The astral body appears in the center of it, lined up with the etheric and physical bodies, a projection or focus within the larger astral aura.

Its Appearance

[The emotional field] is moving much more rapidly, and is therefore perceived as a higher octave of color and sound. The form of the individual emotional field (the astral body, or aura) has certain structural features which correspond to those of the etheric field and the physical body itself. To the clairvoyant, this structure appears as a multicolored aura extending thirty-nine to forty-five centimeters (fifteen to eighteen inches) beyond the physical body. It looks rather like an ovoid, luminous cloud surrounding the body, as though the individual were suspended inside a semitransparent bubble of changing colors and patterns. (Karagulla and Kunz 48-49)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Its Attributes

These colors indicate not only the quality but also the intensity of the individual’s feelings, and whether they are habitual or momentary. Therefore, inner conflicts can be perceived by noting the shade, clarity and position of the colors. . . .

The rhythm of the aura is also significant, as it indicates the degree and kind of interaction with the etheric and mental fields. In health the shape is uniform and well defined, not ragged or wavy at the edges. . . .

We regularly used a checklist against which to register our observations. This included seven categories: quality (type of energy, density of substance, purity of tone), texture, form (whether symmetrical or asymmetrical), color (and its location within the aura), movement (whether rhythmic or turbulent), relationship (to the etheric and mental bodies), and luminosity. (Karagulla and Kunz 49-50)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The Movement and Flow of Emotions

The primary characteristic of the aura is dynamism: it is a kaleidoscopic pattern of colors, whose shading and brilliance denote the quality of the emotions. In the average person these vary according to mood, and therefore the colors wax and wane, lighten and darken, and the energies which impel them are in constant motion. For example, an individual who is happy in the presence of a dear friend will display a harmonious pattern of colors suffused with a lovely rose-pink, while during meditation or prayer, the colors may be overlaid with blue and gold. Anger flashes red through the aura like a bolt of lightning, while grief overlays the whole field with a cloud of gray. (Karagulla and Kunz 50)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

In certain cases . . . there are definite bands and clearly defined lines in these bodies; but in the vast majority the clouds of color not only melt into one another, but are all the while rolling over one another, and appearing and disappearing as they roll. Indeed, the surface of this luminous and brightly-colored mist resembles somewhat the surface of violently boiling water in the way in which the particles are seen to swirl about, to rise to the surface and sink back again, and constantly to change places with one another. (Leadbeater 79)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

[Dryer] perceives a dazzling amount of pattern and structure—kaleidoscopic clouds of color shot through with light, complex images, glistening shapes, and gossamer mists. . . . According to Dryer, shallow people have shallow and humdrum auras. Conversely, the more complex the person, the more complex and interesting their energy field. (Talbot 170)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

The Effect of Attention

Emotions that are sustained over a long period of time remain fairly constant in the aura. If they are negative, such as depression or resentment, they can affect the flow of energy, and this has long-range effects in terms of the condition of the etheric and physical bodies. For example, states of anxiety appear as grayish-blue clouds within the astral field, localized toward the center of the body near the solar plexus chakra. This causes the astral energy to flow inward toward the body, inhibiting the normally free circulation of energy throughout the emotional field. The closer the gray-blue color is to the physical body, the more severe the degree of anxiety and the greater the degree of its impact upon health. When this color tends towards the periphery of the aura, this indicates that the subject is on the way to freeing himself of his anxiety. (Karagulla and Kunz 50)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The position in the astral aura of a feeling/color is determined by the proximity of our attention to it; the percentage of our attention attending to it (via phasing). A strong focus on fear broadcasts it directly into our emotional field near the source, the center of the chakra. That more “present” focus colors the whole aura from deeper within its center, closer to the body. As our attention transitions to other things, that feeling/color loses focus and moves outward to the periphery.

Negative emotions affect the flow by closing or reversing the chakras. Both of these orientations stops the flow.

An outburst of anger will charge the whole astral body with deep-red flashes on a black ground; a sudden fright will instantaneously veil everything in a mist of ghastly, livid gray. . . . When . . . this fluctuating astral vehicle is comparatively at rest . . . it will then show a definite group of colors which retain more or less the same arrangement. (Leadbeater 63)

After a time the emotion dies down, and the color corresponding to it fades away—but not entirely. A certain proportion of the matter of the astral body is normally oscillating at the especial rate appropriate to that emotion, and every great outburst of it adds somewhat to this proportion.

For example, men have within them a certain amount of irritability, which expresses itself in the astral body as a scarlet cloud. When the man manifests that irritability by some special outburst of temper the whole astral vehicle is temporarily suffused with scarlet. The fit of passion subsides, and the scarlet flush dies away, but it has left its traces behind, for there is a slight permanent addition to the size of the scarlet cloud of irascibility, and the whole matter of the astral body is a little more ready than before to respond to the vibration of anger when any opportunity offers. . . . Every time we yield to a passion of any kind, we make it a little more difficult for ourselves to resist its next attack; while every successful effort at its repression makes the next victory a little easier. (Leadbeater 59-60)

The whole or almost the whole, of the matter in an astral body may be temporarily forced by a sudden rush of passion to vibrate at a certain rate; but all of it except that to which the vibration is natural will fall back into its ordinary rate when the force is removed. (Leadbeater 80)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

This is the emotional correlate to the way focusing on thought forms gives them strength.

The Brightness of the Colors

When the man’s energy flows outward toward external objects of desire, or is occupied in passional and emotional activities, this energy works in . . . the astral world. What is called his desire-body NOTE: astral body is composed of this matter, and it forms the most prominent part of the aura in the undeveloped man. Where the man is of a gross type, the desire-body is of the denser matter of the astral plane, and is dull in hue, browns and dirty greens and reds playing a great part in it. Through this will flash various characteristic colors, as his passions are excited. A man of a higher type has his desire-body composed of the finer qualities of astral matter, with the colors, rippling over and flashing through it, fine and clear in hue. While less delicate and less radiant than the mental body, it forms a beautiful object, and as selfishness is eliminated all the duller and heavier shades disappear. (Besant and Leadbeater 9)TFclairvoyant • Theosophy • Besant & Leadbeater

All known colors, and many which are at present unknown to us, exist upon each of these higher planes of nature; but as we rise from one stage to another, we find them ever more delicate and more luminous, so that they might be described as higher octaves of color. (Leadbeater 19)

The lowest astral colors may be thought of as dark and coarse, and they certainly are so as compared to the higher and purer hues, but at least they are luminous in their coarseness; they are not so much dark color in our ordinary sense of the word, as dimly-glowing fire. (Leadbeater 58)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The colors are dim and muted when the light of the Source is flowing through us into more dense, constricting frequencies.

[The emotional body’s] colors vary from brilliant clear hues to dark muddy ones, depending on the clarity or confusion of the feeling or energy that produces them. Clear and highly organized feelings such as love, excitement, joy or anger are bright and clear; those feelings that are confused are dark and muddy. (Brennan 50)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

Brennan’s “emotional body” is distinct from the astral, but the depiction of colors is the same.

Position of the Colors

The section above the diaphragm usually indicates the individual’s potential—sometimes developed, sometimes not—and the colors in this part of the aura are usually lighter and less intense. The part below the diaphragm indicates ongoing and active experiences, and here the colors are usually darker, and the texture heavier and more granular. . . . Heavier or coarser feelings seem to gravitate to the lower portion of the astral field, while the higher, more expansive feelings are located above the region of the heart. . . .

The colors in the region below the diaphragm indicate the more ordinary and sensate feelings—those which come into play in daily life—while those above this level, especially in the region around the head, indicate intellectual and spiritual qualities. (Karagulla and Kunz 49, 51)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Release of Blockages

A constriction is a focus of attention on resistance. The tighter the constriction, the worse the blockage. Stronger blockages are deeper within, closer to the chakras, and once released, the blocked emotions circulate outwards to the periphery of the aura before dispersing.

Following are some great illustrations of energy constrictions and release:

This woman had been a “good girl” type for years and finally just reached her rebelliousness. She stopped being so “nice” and got very angry during her session. She knocked down the chairs in the room and even stomped on the tissue box, tearing it to pieces. She left the session feeling liberated. However, the next week she contracted and withdrew very deeply and came into my office with a terrible headache. She moved carefully and held her shoulders up around her ears. At this point, I observed a large “blob” of mucus on top of her head. Apparently the mucus had been released in the earlier session and had accumulated there. . . . (The phenomenon of toxin release from bioenergetic work is well known. Strong energy flow releases toxins held in the tissues. Sometimes people get “sick” after deep work.) . . .

We did a lot of bodywork focusing on . . . feeling connected to the earth supporting her. This process is called grounding. By the end of the session the mucus had distributed itself in a thin layer over her body. Her headache was gone. It took several weeks of bodywork to rid her of the entire mucus layer. (Brennan 92-93)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

As she continued to move her arms and talk cheerfully in a manner that threw up pink and white soft clouds, the bright yellow radiating energy from the sides of the head began to cover over or mask the gray forehead problem area. She was literally convincing herself that she was happy by masking the gray with yellow (mental) energy. When I described what I was seeing, she immediately stopped creating the “false” pink cloud. The gray area in the head regained its original range. . . .

Susan was able to talk about the pain she was feeling in her heart about her mother’s illness. She started to cry. This released the red from the heart area. . . .

The dark spot (four inches in diameter) in the solar plexus lightened and spread to a larger area (eight inches in diameter). (Brennan 98)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

The Thought Atmosphere

The aura is where the ever-changing light and image show caused by our changing focus of attention occurs. What happens in our aura is due to our use of the flow from the Source into us. It’s the home of our personal thought form atmosphere. These thought forms reside within the aura, our individual energy field.

For how this works, see “Thought Forms” in thoughts.php.

Measurements of the Aura — Valerie Hunt’s Research

Dr. Valorie Hunt and others at UCLA ran a fascinating study called “A Study of Structural Neuromuscular Energy Field and Emotional Approaches” that was able to match up what clairvoyant Rosalyn Bruyere saw in each subject’s aura with frequencies recorded by an EEG.

Higher Frequency, Lower Amplitude

The normal frequency range for electrical activity in the brain is between 0 and 100 cycles per second (cps), with most of the activity occurring between 0 and 30 cps. Muscle frequency goes up to about 225 cps, and the heart goes up to about 250 cps. . . . Hunt discovered that the electrodes of the electromyograph could pick up another field of energy radiating from the body, much subtler and smaller in amplitude than the traditionally recognized body electricites but with frequencies that averaged between 100 and 1600 cps, and which sometimes went even higher. Moreover, instead of emanating from the brain, heart, or muscles, the field was strongest in the areas of the body associated with the chakras. (Talbot 175)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

One of Hunt’s most startling findings is that certain talents and abilities seem to be related to the presence of specific frequencies in a person’s energy field. She has found that when the main focus of a person’s consciousness is on the material world, the frequencies of their energy field tend to be in the lower range and are not too far removed from the 250 cps of the body’s biological frequencies. . . . People who are psychic or who have healing abilities also have frequencies of roughly 400-800 cps range. People who can go into a trance and channel other information sources through them skip these “psychic” frequencies entirely and operate in a narrow band between 800 and 900 cps. . . .

People who have frequencies above 900 cps are what Hunt calls mystical personalities. Whereas psychics and trance mediums are often just conduits of information, mystics possess the wisdom to know what to do with the information, says Hunt. . . . They . . . often have both psychic and trance abilities. . . . Hunt has encountered individuals who have frequencies as high as 200,000 cps in their energy fields. (Talbot 176)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

These signals also showed dynamic chaos patterns, meaning that they were dense with information. see “Magnifying Information From Higher Orders” in flow-into-us.php.

Color Correspondence

Hunt also discovered that when an aura reader saw a particular color in a person’s energy field, that electromyograph always picked up a specific pattern of frequencies that Hunt learned to associate with that color. Hunt was able to see this pattern on an oscilloscope. (Talbot 175)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

Consistent wave forms and frequencies correlated specifically with the colors Rev. Bruyere reported. in other words, when Rev. Bruyere observed blue in the aura at any specific location, the electronic measurements would always show the characteristic blue wave form and frequency in the same locations. . . .

Blue: 250-275 Hz plus 1200 Hz

Green: 250-475 Hz

Yellow: 500-700 Hz

Orange: 950-1050 Hz

Red: 1000-1200 Hz

Violet: 1000-1200, plus 300-400; 600-800 Hz

White: 1100-2000 Hz

These frequency bands, except for the extra bands at blue and violet, are in reverse order of rainbow color sequence. (Brennan 33)HoLclairvoyant • modern • Brennan

The Mental Body

Beyond the astral we have various conceptions of higher bodies. Some include a mental body beyond the astral. In this model, while the astral is home to emotions, the mental is home to thoughts.

Thoughts, further up the stream, determine the emotions we feel as the mental flows into the astral. see “Emotions Are Shaped By Beliefs” in flow-into-us.php.

The Mental Body

The third aspect or facet of the personal self is the instrument through which the mind finds expression; in theosophical and esoteric literature this is traditionally called the mental body. . . . The mental is finer-grained and faster-moving than the astral. However, it should be remembered that the mental field interpenetrates both the astral and the etheric at every point, and the mental body also conforms to these vehicle in structure. The mental dimension is in constant interplay with other aspects of the personality throughout life, and its energy permeates every experience, even when we are not engaged in intellectual pursuits or even consciously thinking.

The energy which pours into the mental chakras from the inexhaustible reservoir of the universal mental field circulates through the mental chakra system in much the same manner as at the astral and etheric levels. . . .

The human mental body is an ovoid like the astral, but it is considerably larger and less dense. Its colors and quality are good indicators of the individual’s interests and mental powers, whether latent or active, for sometimes the capacities we are born with do not mature during life. All this shows up in the mental body, just as the astral aura accurately reveals the emotional life.

Because the mental and emotional fields are so closely interconnected, the mind is colored by emotion, just as the feelings are conditioned by thought.

Far from being a product of brain activity, the distillation of meaning and the interpretation of experience are seen to derive from a deeper level of the self. Such insight is then developed rationally by the mind and related to other knowledge, while the brain, which is the mind’s instrument or physical partner, registers the information.

When there is a harmonious relationship from the mental level through the emotional to the etheric, the flow of energy through the chakras displays a rhythmic and unimpeded pattern. (Karagulla and Kunz 58-60)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Man, the thinker, is clothed in a body composed of innumerable combinations of the subtle matter of the mental plane, this body being more or less refined in its constituents and organized more or less fully for its functions, according to the stage of intellectual development at which the man himself has arrived. The mental body is an object of great beauty, the delicacy and rapid motion of its particles giving it an aspect of living iridescent light, and this beauty becomes an extraordinarily radiant and entrancing loveliness as the intellect becomes more highly evolved. (Besant and Leadbeater 8)TFclairvoyant • Theosophy • Besant & Leadbeater

Appearance of the Mental Body

The mental body extends about ninety centimeters (three feet) beyond the periphery of the physical body, and interpenetrates both the etheric and the astral bodies. The individual who perceives the “I” more in terms of his thoughts than his feelings usually has a mental body that is brighter and more vital than the average, and of finer texture. When such a person is using the mind, energy moves more swiftly in and out of the mental chakras, and the whole mental body becomes more lively and luminous. (Karagulla and Kunz 60)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

The Causal Body — The Reincarnating Self

In the Theosophical model, the causal plane is the upper half of the mental plane.

This section deals only with the energy bodies themselves. The reincarnating self is of primary importance to our current physical incarnation and our cycle of lives. That is covered in “The Reincarnating Self” in reincarnation.php.

The Causal Body

The causal body (sometimes called the auric egg) is the real vehicle of the reincarnating ego, and is inhabited by him as long as he remains upon the plane which is his true home, the higher levels of the mental world. (Leadbeater 11)Dclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Seen clairvoyantly, the causal body is pale and ethereal, with iridescent colors like those in a soap bubble. . . . At this level, the Self is not constrained by the usual limits of time and space and causality, but is able to experience the universality of life and to perceive meanings and interrelationships which are often hidden from us during physical existence. (Karagulla and Kunz 66)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Blending of Reincarnational Forms in the Causal Body

The counterpart [of the physical form] exists in mental matter as well as in astral, so through the heaven-life NOTE: the higher astral also the man retains to a considerable extent the appearance as well as the memory of his last personality. Even in the causal body there is also a human form—not that of any one incarnation, but a glorified blending of what is noblest in all of them. (Leadbeater 76)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

At first the bodies Whitton’s subjects assumed resembled the persons they had been in their last life. But as their experience in the between-life state continued, they gradually became a kind of hologram-like composite of all of their past lives. This composite identity even had a name separate from any of the names they had used in their physical incarnations, although none of his subjects was able to pronounce it using their physical vocal cords. (Talbot 247)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

Development and Opening to the Flow

Each soul is represented by an ovoid form—at first a mere film, colourless and almost invisible, of most tenuous consistency; but, as the ego NOTE: reincarnating self develops, this body begins to show a shimmering iridescence like a soap-bubble, colours playing over its surface like the changing hues made by sunlight on the spray of a waterfall. . . .

All these causal bodies NOTE: reincarnating selves are filled with living fire drawn from a higher plane, with which the globe appears to be connected by a quivering thread of intense light. . . . As the soul grows and is able to receive more and more from the inexhaustible ocean of the Divine Spirit which pours down through the thread as a channel, the latter expands and gives wider passage to the flood. . . . Once more the stanza says it for us: ‘The thread between the Watcher and his shadow becomes more strong and radiant with every change. The morning sunlight had changed into noonday glory.’ (Leadbeater 103-104)DPclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

Looking at the causal body, the colors betoken qualities definitely and permanently acquired by the soul, and whatever expression of this may be possible upon the lower planes will be his as a kind of stock-in-trade or inherent quality in every incarnation which the future holds in store for him. (Leadbeater 81)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

The Appearance of Highly Developed Spiritual Beings

The adept [is] the man who has attained the goal of humanity. . . .

In his case the size of the causal body has enormously increased, and shines with a sunlike splendour far beyond all imagination in its glorious loveliness. . . .

[Its colors] no longer move in whirling clouds, but are arranged in great concentric shells, yet penetrated everywhere by radiations of living light always pouring forth from him as a centre. . . .

The mind-body and astral body connected with this have very little characteristic color of their own, but are reproductions of the causal body in so far as their lower octaves can express it. They have a lovely shimmering iridescence—a sort of opalescent, mother-of-pearl effect. (Leadbeater 118-119, 121)

One of the grandest characteristics of the developed man [is] his capacity to serve as a channel for higher force. . . .

With the more developed man, his various vehicles are not only all of them greatly refined and improved, but they are also very much more like one another. . . .

The power from above, which we saw radiating out through his causal body, acts also through the mental vehicle, though with somewhat less force. . . .

The mental body itself becomes a reflection of the causal, since the man learns to follow solely the promptings of the higher self, and to guide his reason exclusively by them. (Leadbeater 105, 107-108)MV&Iclairvoyant • Theosophy • Leadbeater

This is the appearance of the nearly uninhibited flow into us. See the major section “The Flow Into Us” in flow-into-us.php.

“These were entities who had completed their cycle of incarnations here,” Whitton says. . . .

“Whatever they may be, [these beings] have the ability to radiate a warmth of friendliness that evokes complete trust,” [Monroe] observes. “Perceiving our thoughts is absurdly easy for [them]. . . . The entire history of humankind and earth is available to them in the most minute detail.” . . .

George Russell, a well-known turn-of-the-century Irish seer . . . encountered many “beings of light”. . . .

“The first of these I saw I remember very clearly, and the manner of its appearance: there was at first a dazzle of light, and then I saw that this came from the heart of a tall figure with a body apparently shaped out of half-transparent or opalescent air, and throughout the body ran a radiant, electrical fire, to which the heart seemed the centre. Around the head of this being and through its waving luminous hair, which was blown all about the body like the living strands of gold, there appeared flaming wing-like auras. From the being itself, light seemed to stream outwards in every direction; and the effect left on me after the vision was one of extraordinary lightness, joyousness, or ecstasy.” (Talbot 271-273)HUscientific, researcher • modern • Talbot

Higher Bodies and Chakras

Beyond the reincarnating self less is known, and the variation in names is far greater. Brennan (HoL) can sense the aura of what she calls the Etheric Template Body (5th), the Celestial Body (6th), and the Ketheric Template Body (7th). She is also able to sense an 8th and 9th chakra above the head.

The Spark

Our innermost self is the unchanging Source. There are countless names for the very first stages of individuation of the Source. I like the term “The Spark” as used by the channeled entity Michael.

The Spark is our enduring self that remains with us upon many Grand Cycles — cycles of being cast into the multiverse and then returning to The Source after many lifetimes in many worlds — physical and nonphysical. It’s the very first step of individuality, The Source hardly limited at all.

The First Individuality — The Spark

The extremely subtle body is called the indestructible drop; it is a tiny energy pattern existing normally only in the center of the heart wheel or complex. The extremely subtle mind that corresponds to it is the intuition of clear light, called transparency. . . . This indestructible-drop transparent awareness is the Buddhist soul, the deepest seat of life and awareness, whose continuity is indestructible, though it constantly changes while moving from life to life. (Thurman 36)

[The indestructible drop] consists of the finest, most sensitive, alive, and intelligent energy in the universe. It is a being’s deepest state of pure soul, where the being is intelligent light, alive and singular, continuous yet changing, aware of its infinite interconnection with everything. . . . This is the living soul of every being. It is what makes the boundless process of reincarnation possible. It is the gateway into liberation, always open, essentially free, though the being evolved around it may identify itself with intensely turbulent states of suffering. It is peaceful, translucent, trouble-free, and uncreated. (Thurman 40-41)TBotDwisdom • Tibetan • Padmasambhava

[The highest vesture of the Self] carries the Self’s fundamental intentionally to be, and this is the ultimate cause of our existence. (Karagulla and Kunz 65)C&HEFclairvoyant • modern • Karagulla & Kunz

Its Smallness

The higher the frequency, the smaller the size, and the closer to the Source. The Spark, then, has the tiniest crossing into physical space. This is the law of electromagnetic waves — the faster the frequency (speed), the lower the wavelength (size).

The soul is like the sun in splendour. When it becomes one with the self-conscious ‘I am’ and its desires, it is a flame the size of a thumb; but when one with pure reason and the inner Spirit, it becomes in concentration as the point of a needle.

The soul can be thought as the part of a point of a hair which divided by a hundred were divided by a hundred again; and yet in this living soul there is the seed of Infinity. (unknown 94)SUwisdom • Vedic • unknown

Concealed in the heart of all beings is the Atman NOTE: unchanging, eternal, innermost self, the Spirit, the Self; smaller than the smallest atom, greater than the vast spaces. (unknown 59)KaUwisdom • Vedic • unknown
