Friend of the Dalai Lama★★
May 9, 1998

Context: The Dalai Lama was coming to speak at the Emory Graduation in 9 days on May 18, 1998. I went to see him.

I was a friend of the Dalai Lama!

I was spending time at a few ashrams, or just one which I returned to. I spoke with yogis. I lacked the cultural traditions (bowing and such) but they didn’t mind.

Spherical people

There was a big outdoor festival. There was a scene with someone stealing balloons. I flew up high to this balloon cloud and played with 4-6 perfectly spherical people. What a strange thing! I felt I was up in space with them but I was only as high as the bleachers. Weird! And I had moments of “I’m dreaming!” but then I didn’t get any clearer.

Then it was almost time for the Dalai Lama to speak at the Emory graduation. Two vaguely familiar old guys came up to me and gave me two free tickets to see him. I was very grateful. I arrived in the big school auditorium, and sat by the Dalai Lama in the back. I stupidly asked if he was nervous. Everyone was dressed very strangely. I had a big hat, and was dressed in a slightly far-eastern style with a western hippie flare. The Dalai Lama was doing something with a paper bag mask. As he went up to speak, Rebecca woke me up.

Essential Beings: The change in size to being tiny likely caused the feeling I was really high up without actually being so. I wonder if we were in our essential point-of-awareness forms.

Size Changes Accompanying Flying: I wonder if the feeling that I was soaring way up into the sky but only got as high as the bleachers was due to a change in my size. If I was tiny, it would feel like vast motion but I wouldn’t get very far.

The Dalai Lama’s Visit: The Dalai Lama was coming to Atlanta to speak at the Emory University graduation ceremony in 9 days. We had tickets to see him. It looks like I was exploring that upcoming event, and maybe he was too.
