Dream Journal

Much earlier in the night, I was involved in some performances. I was surprised to be allowed to, as I wasn’t prepared. In one, I was playing the part of a cat or dog.

The other I remember better. I was playing the part of a witch. I think I began as a normal person. At some point there was an explosion dealing with pumpkins and I wore a pale pumpkin-head mask. Then for the rest I wore a white witch’s mask with green around the eyes. It was a musical, and I was singing my part in a sort of gravely but strong voice. Of course I didn’t know the part, but I was doing it spontaneously, letting it come through me. At times I was watching from outside myself, at other times from within — and those times I would make mistakes, like forgetting a line or being in the wrong place. When I did, the others would help me along, bringing me the right mask or helping with the lines. It was done in an excited, lighthearted way, as if the perfection of the performance didn’t really matter.

I either performed it twice or there was a rewind and replay. The second time there were four witches wearing the same mask, appearing together in the same scenes, helping each other out.

Afterwards, one woman complimented my singing voice. Later in the night I thought this was evidence that I was still working with The Funny Show guys. There were some funny parts in the play, but it felt more like a high school production.
