The Monkin — The Little People★★★★
May 25, 1995 @ 3.5 hours in

Now in college, I’ve had an intention to apologize to Jeff for the immature things we did to each other in high school. The dream:

I see Jeff in the lunchroom and want to apologize. But we have a fight long before I can. Immature. Teasing. I refuse to take any shit and bust his art and hide his tray. He does shit, too. Way immature. So I chase him through the rainy streets. Eventually we end up at his house. I chase him around the yard to this big tree. I chase him up the tree and find this crazy miniature house. There’s a bunch of bright-eyed beautiful little people there. I’m sprawled out on a branch, looking at them with amazement, tears of disbelief and joy in my eyes. Jeff: “I wanted you to know for so long.” One of the tiny folk looking at me says “I knew he’d be a good one”. We are MONKEY and they are KIN, MONKIN. . . . I ask how they get here, “from another world?” “No”, says one. There was a philosopher of theirs who wrote through a MONKIN (one of us big folk) named: . . . GRIM. . . . He wrote something on magic or some such.

I was in love with the dear creatures. Relatives of TINK, I thought. Soon they went on to other things and Jeff and I swung on the branches. I was afraid my branch would break, but Jeff said it was protected by magic. Then we went to the bottom and I noticed a dark face in the wood. Jeff told me to begin scratching at the bark of the tree to protect it. I did and rubbed off all this shreddy bark. Then Jeff started scratching on his brown shirt and underneath was a blue, green, and red shirt like it. I scratched the back of my pants (jeans material) to reveal new clothes, but I continued all the way up to my head and under my hair was this long, silver-white hair. I felt it was a sign of wisdom, something special that doesn’t happen to everyone. Jeff’s mom came out and asked what we were doing, but her presence didn’t stop my transformation. I take Jeff aside to tell him: “Long before any of this, I had an intention to say something to you.” (to apologize) I awaken before I can.

I awaken 3.5 hours into sleep at 6:30 AM. The window is open, and there is morning light.

Morning Light, Morning Air: I think there may be something to the idea that fresh air makes me dream more intensely, and remember my dreams much more.

Transformation: I’m not sure what to make of the scratching off of layers of clothing and skin to reveal something beneath it. This is the only time I’ve dreamed of something like that. Maybe it was related to the etheric or astral body.
