Benji Adams, Virginia Senator
February 16, 2025

Context: As things got bad politically, I sometimes thought of what I could do to make a difference.

Well this was weird. I was hanging around in government buildings, and somehow found myself elected as a senator. I happened upon a large open space filled with seats, like a huge theater, but well lit. It had a stately feel to it, with ornate chandeliers. I found out this was the first senate meeting of the session. I wandered about looking for a seat, and eventually found a woman I knew. I was dressed sort of nicely but strangely. Many were in suits and ties but there were plenty of people dressed strangely so I didn’t feel out of place for long. The thing that made me feel most uncomfortable was that while I was pretty certain I was a senator, I wasn’t sure what state I represented. My best guess was Virginia, or maybe West Virginia, but I knew I was living in Georgia.

I learned that the government sessions went all day long for three weeks, and they had taken our phones when we first went in. I had recently been hanging out with Rebecca and the kids and I had to let them know I’d be occupied for the next three weeks. I saw them in my mind, hanging out not far away.

I paid little attention to the proceedings. I think people were meeting in small groups here and there. There was a food stand nearby and I went to check it out. The prices were great. While walking around it, the whole thing (maybe 16 feet tall overall) started to lean towards the people sitting nearby and I had to hold it up.

Seeing Distant: The idea that they “took our phones” probably made me think I couldn’t communicate with them through my mind.
