I’m walking with someone who at times appears as Rebecca or Jared. We’re walking through blue-walled corridors and memories — through passages nearly closed, once open long ago, but now a squeeze, dusty with cobwebs.
The city is like San Francisco and New York City. There are lots of people and shops — everything is packed in. In the background, Tom Waits singing Fiona Apple’s “Slow Like Honey”. I can hear people’s thoughts. We had to walk through what was now someone’s apartment. After showing us through, they telepathically complained that they should put locks on the door. We’re looking for a pool. The dream is poetic, crazy. There’s poetry in everything. Wild sudden sex, empty rooms.
I throw my sandals through a crack, hope to find them later. REM plays “End of the World As We Know It” in a smokey bar. People crowd around. A girl with black tights on a table cheers. I see Mario Sunshine on a TV across the way, in a mirror. A bum roots in a fountain. Jared, a man in a suit with a hat, says he’s going to vote for the “straight man” this time. Last time he chose mushroom — a card with a Mario mushroom flashes in his hand.
References: Tom Waits, Fiona Apple, and REM are bands. Mario Sunshine is a video game.
A Dream to Music: This dream is to Tom Waits singing Fiona Apple’s “Slow Like Honey” — this is a song cover that doesn’t exist in the physical. The music seems to give it a wild style, like beat poetry, short scenes passing by, my mind open to receiving people’s thoughts and experiences as we wander through what seems like the near realm of a busy city.
Wandering Through: Here we appear to be wandering through the near realm in a big city, picking up people’s thoughts. We disturb some sleeping people and hear their complaints after they show us through.
To Illustrate: Jared shows me what he means by mushroom via telepathic imagery, which I take to be a Mario mushroom printed on a card in his hand. Doubtless this is related to seeing Mario Sunshine on a TV shortly before.
