Dream Journal
September 1, 2010
I was at an unfamiliar school in a daylight setting. It was sort of in the style of Spring Lake Park, but laid out completely differently. I was taking classes there. My memory starts when I’m in the courtyard, and I notice some people out there have vitiligo. Then I notice that more and more people do, and people are coming into the courtyard — many without shirts — they all have it. Soon every person in the courtyard has it, and they’re all standing still. There are also odd skin rashes and abrasions on them. I begin to wonder if I have it, too. I walk to the exit and look at my reflection in the glass — I’m normal. How strange to be the only normal looking person, I think.
I go down the stairs and around the corner. Just a little ways down the hall I see Jeremy sitting against the wall with some friends. I am excited to see him, so I call out to him and sit down in front of him. He’s excited to see me at first but then quickly becomes guarded and begins talking to his friends instead. I wait a moment, and see that it’s clear he’s going to ignore me, so I disengage my excitement and lean back, a few moments from leaving. Feeling this, he turns back to me and says, as if in explanation, that Eric said that I’d changed, that I wasn’t myself — not fun or engaging. I remembered the name from playing soccer (though Jeremy didn’t know that Eric) and remembered that as when my affliction started (again incorrectly — that was 2006, and the affliction started in 2003). So I started talking about how that was a long time ago and how I am much better now (am I?). As I started talking with him, I reached out and held hands with the girl sitting next to him and we were affectionately touching each others hands in the cutest way. This conversation sort of let me into the group, and we started talking about various things. I laid my head down on Jeremy’s knees and basically got into the position I actually was in bed, with Jeremy’s knees as the pillow. The visual aspect went out of the dream as I closed my eyes there in the hallway of the school. We were still talking, I was still touching the girl’s hands. After a minute, I opened my eyes again and apologized for getting all sleepy on them like that.
A girl that reminded me of Rhonda was there, and she had her glasses in her hand. Still in my sleeping position, I reached out my hand for them and she handed them to me. She said she needed them back soon or . . . something bad would happen. I quickly put them on and saw the world as slightly distorted through low-prescription glasses. Then I handed them back.
Then the alarm went off, and I got up for a minute and came back to bed. I was thinking, if they asked if I wore glasses or contacts, I could say “both”. That would be funny. I could say I was the patron saint of ophthalmologists. I could then say I got Lasik, too, but only 10% so that I’d still have need of their other services.
References: Spring Lake Park is the high school I went to.
Social Dreaming: This is essential social dreaming. Though it’s not taking place in the near realm, an astral school would be a natural setting for it as well. Jeremy acted as I might expect him to. That way of hanging out in a hallway, just casually sitting around, talking, was something we used to do a lot in high school.
Vision: Here my vision is distorted by someone’s glasses. An effect of expectation, just as removing my glasses or contacts in other dreams led to blurry vision.
Energy Communications: The withdrawal of my excitement to see Jeremy is a big and obvious energetic communication (imagine the beam of attention coming out of my face fading slowly out). He is forced to respond with an explanation.
Fulfilling the Stimulus: The pressure of my pillow was stimulating my neck, and to make sense of it, I laid my head on Jeremy’s knees in the dream. Sensation and potential distraction explained away!
