The Boar★★
January 5, 2003

Context: We saw a boar on the road in Florida yesterday, and a small Italian greyhound at Piedmont Park a few days ago.

Rebecca and I are swimming in a small lake of shallow water in a forested park. There are lots of people around. There is an island hill in the center of the lake. The park is in a somewhat rural area. Suddenly a boar appears at the edge of the water. It’s huge, and it’s fighting two dogs, utterly enraged. I’m dressed strangely, with a cape, strange accessories, and a large golden poleaxe. The boar turns and runs toward me. All the attention is on me. I feel the fear of all the others, which includes Barrett and Erin. I lift up the poleaxe, but now the boar is running along the bank towards the others. There is someone in charge, too — a spirit guide, who looks to me with penetrating eyes to take action. I do. I run to the shore and bury the axe in the beast’s back. This is a giant boar, king of boars. It’s wounded. I give it several gashes as it runs about.

Then I am back in the lake and the boar comes to me. The spirit guide person is near, and speaks knowingly into my mind that I must kill it. I am saddened by this. I want it to go off and heal. I feel everyone in my head, and I know they know my sadness. The beast circles me and perhaps it attacks? I let fly with the axe and cut its neck, but I must hack it several times, through muscle and sinew before the blood starts flowing. The beast stands, then falls, and the water is colored with its blood. I return to the shore, seen as a hero by some, while others are sympathetic to my sadness.

I talk to some people. Barrett rollerblades while drinking something seemingly alcoholic. Then a second boar appears from up the street. It’s smaller, the son of the slain boar. It rushes through the people, who avoid it. Then it turns for me. I still have the axe but wish it no harm. I go behind a palm tree and can still see it. I speak into its head “go now” and it turns and goes back up the street to its large mother. There are several other animals coming down the street, including Italian greyhounds, who come and hang out playfully with us. One is entranced with me and sits before me looking into my eyes as I pet it.

Collective Empathy: In this dream there is a collective empathy and communication as a matter of course — I can feel the emotions of the people around me, and communicate with people and animals directly via telepathy. None of this is strange or surprising. This is a true dream of a rote.

Spirit Guide: Often the sign of a spirit guide or advanced soul is the penetrating eyes that can focus your attention and jolt you to lucidity. This guide seemed to know what had to be done here, even though it wasn’t what I wanted to do.

This was a rote from a distant age, but I’m unsure where it came from.
