Dream Journal
August 30, 1997
I got a strong sense that I was in a class. It was more a sort of knowing, without being physically vivid and real. I felt my body was nearby but in a whole different space. The class was a well-oiled machine, and from this I sprang into a dream:
This dream was inspired, no doubt, from a big whirlpool I saw earlier today.
I was in this neighborhood of houses on a hill in a rocky landscape. There were big black magma-type rocks near the ocean, and a never-ending whirlpool a little ways out. My house was nearest to the ocean. There was a conversation where I expressed a desire to go through the whirlpool. Then a big wave hit and the house broke loose and started floating on the water. It floated over a rock ledge, smashed into another house, and began moving towards the whirlpool. Someone said “Hey, you got your wish. We’re heading towards the whirlpool!” As we neared it I saw how violent and ominous it seemed. Now I hoped too late to avoid it. My house, full of people, plunged down into it and my last breath of air got mixed with water as the house was sucked under. The underwater portion was impossibly long and my breath barely held but finally I washed out on a beautiful cascading waterfall that was broken by rocky landings.
After realizing that I was okay, I searched for other survivors. They all appeared now as cassettes, videos, and books. I tried to play them. Some worked right away, some worked after a bang or two, and others didn’t at all. I divided them into piles based on whether they worked or not, one pile becoming very loud with all its music and sound. Had everyone been transformed in this new area? I spent a while searching, then decided to go to the next area up. I was changing back and forth between dry clothes and swimsuit and finally I climbed up the next section of rocks.
The first person I saw was Mariah (from the southwest Minneapolis Y.O.U.) who looked up at me, reclining, smiling, golden. I said “Thank goodness you survived” and she seemed at that moment like a girlfriend, like a longtime girlfriend from another reality. Near her were two half full glasses of water with smiling rubber Mariah faces on them. She said there were other people nearby. I was afraid my enthusiasm at seeing her was too much, so I was about to search for more survivors when Rebecca woke me.
Whirlpool: Whirlpools are like tornadoes in dreams. This one acts as a gateway or hyperspace corridor. I’m not sure which. It took us to a new location in the astral world.
Equivalence: My friends were transformed to recorded media on the other side of the whirlpool, which acts as a gateway. Could that mean they were all just thought-form creations of mine, and this was revealing that fact? Was I expecting several things that were sources of information, and they could have as easily been people as recorded media? How odd that they were playing music and sound as I found them!
Mariah: Certain dreams have suggested that Mariah is a closer friend in my dreams than in waking life. In waking life I hung out with her a few times and liked her, but she lived far away so it didn’t really go anywhere.
People to Objects: I wonder. . . . If the people didn’t come through the gateway with me but were still communicating with me, perhaps these new forms were a rationalization of their continuing communication without their actual presence. They did all change into forms of communication, after all.
Deep Sleep: It seems like I go from a state of deeper sleep to one at a more physical and emotional level.
