Dream Journal
August 11, 1997 @ Middle of the night
I stopped to write this one down in the dream but caught myself and woke up.
Rebecca and I were moving up a level in Tank, to room 301. That was the top floor. All our best friends were over to help us move. Paxston was there, and upstairs was Sticky (who I don’t actually know in waking life). At first the new tenant of our old room seemed really weird, sitting against a wall, watching us move, but I stayed downstairs and talked with her. Her name was Kelly. As we were talking, the room was slowly changing into hers. It had a bedroom, living room, and kitchen. It was in the corner of the building on the 2nd floor. I could see fine (I assumed I had contacts) but wanted my glasses, which I had lost while we were talking. I spent a some of my attention looking for them for a while, finding countless pairs that were all wrong.
The transformation was completed. Kelly’s bedroom was dark and mystical. There were two small glowing flower devices spraying this soft, fragrant water in many tiny streams across the room. The streams were crossing in an X shape in front of the bed — one pink, one yellow. They were the weirdest things — they followed me, pushed towards me to spray me when I got close. The spray was misty and sweet smelling. There were several lines dividing the room and these were two of them. Well, I had finally found my glasses and was ready to leave with the rest of my stuff: some colored wigs and knick-knacks. I said goodbye to Kelly. I thought she was really cool and said it was nice to meet her. My friend (where did he come from?) said goodbye to her three female roommates who were in the kitchen. They seemed younger than me. I realized that I was naked, so I held all my stuff against me to cover up and ran around with my pink butt hanging out, waving at Jess S from South. I ran up the stairs and across the third floor to 301.
The new room was so much bigger and nicer than the previous one. There was a hanging plant. Our roommates were this girl who looked like Liza Minnelli laying face down on the couch with a silver sequin skirt, and this friendly black guy. Paxston was glad to see me again. There was this girl named Sticky across the room, in the same dark w/neon glow kind of scenery and I danced around a table and proclaimed my love to her: “You, I’ll always love best, Sticky.” She was a super raver-girl with metallic makeup and a shiny silver shirt. Some parts of her shirt were glowing. She was laying on her back, head to me, legs bent, grabbing her ankles and rocking playfully. She looked somewhat like the female singer from Dee-Lite. She didn’t seem very present.
References: South Hall is where I lived at Oberlin the first two years. Dee-Lite is a band. Liza Minnelli is an actress.
Dream Friends: Sticky is a dream friend that I’m quite fond of, but who I don’t know in real life. It seems we’ve known each other a while at this point.
Vision: The familiar vision scenario plays out here. I’m not wearing glasses, but I can see, so it must be that I’m wearing contacts. But then I look for my glasses and find them everywhere I look through projection. Though I wonder why they weren’t the right glasses. . . .
Chakras: I think here I was seeing energy flows and subtle astral structures. I don’t know what the spraying flowers were, but they reminded me of chakras. Seeing chakras in the astral is always a weird thing. They are so strange that they are hard to integrate into the scene. Sometimes they are seen as designs on clothing. It’s also interesting that2 when I’ve seen chakras, they’re spraying water or mist.
Creating Your Room: Kelly was moving into our old room, and it seems like Kelly was projecting her room around her into the new space.
This is how all these scene transformations take place — through our own changing projections. Our own projections are the first things we see. If we’re not projecting, we can see projections made by others. In this case, as I’ve moved out of this room, I’ve withdrawn my own projection and can see her projection shaping the room. I’m not sure it’s possible to know if other people are seeing my projections or their own without asking.
I Must Have Had Contacts In: I’m presented with a fact and rationalize an explanation for it.
Shadow Mode: In both room transformations from one owner to another, there’s a phase where the room is dark and lit up with subtle neon glows. This is the scene without the final physical scenery painted on.
