Dream Journal
April 22, 1997
I was staying in some residential area. There were cool, different houses with lots of greenery. There was some trip with a bus to this movie and Rebecca and I decided to go. We got in the bus and the driver woman started this big collection process. It was $15 for Rebecca, because it was her birthday (it wasn’t actually) and because it included a lunch bag and drink. It was $36 for the rest of us. I wanted to see if the bus driver would accept less, so I waited until the end to talk to her.
While waiting, I was playing live-action Marathon with Matt L and some others. They knew the board well and eventually kicked my ass. The setting was some darkened business offices, shifted to morning light blues and purples. Matt was playing out some crazy story as he played. One weapon he had was a baby head that spewed oatmeal.
I returned to the bus driver, who asked if I paid. I said no, then talked her down to $6.50. Then we’re driving around, seeing sights. The area is like the mountain home.
Then something happens and we’re back in the neighborhood where we started. I’m walking by myself through slushy streets and I block this car as I cross the street. It follows me up onto the grass and sidewalk and I think “Shit, it’s those Consciousness Research Foundation people.” I turn and see that it’s actually Heidi! I have a good laugh. I say hey and explain to her what I thought was going on. We walk and talk. It was a very good, very natural conversation.
References: Marathon is a video game.
Consciousness Research Foundation: Where did that come from? Years later, in 2010, I looked it up online and it’s a real organization that was founded in 1997!
Apparently I ran into these people before and it wasn’t a good experience.
Subdream While Waiting: In the original writing of this dream, I wondered what I did while waiting for the bus driver to collect money from everyone else. Then, immediately after, I wrote “There was some inbetween dream . . . ” describing the Marathon game. The scene change was so unrelated that while I knew it had just happened, I couldn’t place it. But it’s clear now that while waiting, I went into a reverie subdream.
