Breaking Free
March 24, 1997

I’m part of this big class group playing soccer in a gymnasium. The floor eventually changes to water, and everyone is on rafts. Masa is playing goalie naked. She swims over to our side, while the immature ones were all laughing and gawking. Four of us, including Joy and someone like April B start singing this song of breaking the mold, of stepping out of the system. A bunch more join in. I’m not afraid of being naked anymore. We sing and decide to start living a little more, a better life. The other half of the group won’t join in and leaves without us. The ones left are all more friendly. The dream frees up and energy rises. We go to the place of eating and find that the others have rejected our food, accusing us of some shit. Real unfair.

Transformations: The change to water probably was a rationalization of smooth floating movement. Without our need to take steps, we naturally glide, and when I noticed that, the movement made more sense as gliding across the water on rafts.

Breaking Free: It looks like this song was inspired by the immature reactions to nudity. A much better response than getting angry or feeling embarrassed.
