Someone’s telling me about their experience and I start living it: I (as him) go with someone to interview this religious fellow. We go to talk to him and he’s rude and disgusting. He/I sarcastically say “Oh, how loving and compassionate. What a holy man.” He sends us upstairs to talk to someone else, who brushes us off. Then when pressured, he allows an interview and starts talking about where he and the religious guy came from, including their high school. He tells us about some play that grades 30, 60, & 880 put on that was big and national. They did something with a knight whose leg was cut off and he explained the trick they used to do it (he was contorting). A rascally dwarf type of guy there said to me “You should enjoy this, it’s humor!”
Ramblings: This fellow upstairs rambled on and on, going off on his own tangents and making little sense to me. Why would I care about all this? Why did someone share this stupid, boring rote?
Dual Self Within a Rote: I think frequently the “we” in dreams is the dreamer as an observer/inhabitor within someone else’s rote. Here it’s clear: I’m living through his experience. The sarcastic comment “Oh, how loving and compassionate. What a holy man” sounds like something I would say. I regularly refer to myself inhabiting his character as “we”.
This may explain some circumstances of the “dream friend”, where I almost always feel like I’m with someone in my dreams.
