The Color-Flashing Hat
November 8, 1996

I was at a performance of Tori Amos at an elementary school (Tori’s music came on to wake me up) and I was up on stage sitting next to her, trying to figure out how to play her songs. I think I learned some of it. Then I started dancing and then I got out this color-flashing hat and started flying and spinning and jumping and dancing and shooting around. So much activity that I awoke in a sweat!

Anyway, I finally sat down and hid the hat, thinking that everyone’s left, but there were still tons of kids there. One ran up to me and saw no hat on me, so he went onto the stage and grabbed one, thinking it mine. He brought it to me. I shook my head. He was sad and gave it to someone who lost his. Actually, mine was under my chair.

Spinning Colors: This is the third dream now that I can think of with spinning colors, including the melt-out one of the many Rebeccas, and the young one of falling stars in the Blaine House backyard.

It reminds me of the rapidly-cycling every-color from dreams and psychedelic states — a color that cycles quickly between all colors and can be interpreted as any of them.
