The Tower on Arcology Hill • Oberlin College

Unbelievable! I woke up laughing — what a fucking trip! I’ve never dreamed anything like it! I feel like this is The Tower, in disguise. Here goes.

I overheard talk about some big surgery of the ribs for me. Next thing I knew I was drifting out of a deeply anesthetized state to overhear a nurse say to a doctor: “Yeah we separate the body into two pieces during this surgery. We take the hips and below to a whole other place.” I blearily said “Is that so, nurse? Guess I’m not supposed to be awake to hear that,” in a humorous way, grinning at her shocked expression. They took me to a little place with huge paper towels and made this long ripping sound with them as they anesthetized me further. Then they separated me in two, saying “and this side goes left and this side never was.”

Next I saw Rox & Jess in a waiting room and this sick dorky happy music comes on — their sign to take me to my “special meal.” As we went, I was bobbing up and down slightly, to give the illusion that I was walking. But I was suspended by rubber bands, being lifted and lowered slowly as if I was walking. We walked past a mirror set up to reflect only my top half. We walked a long way, past many people, and finally with big grins they said “And here’s your special place, all relaxed so you can lounge out like a king.” They lay me down on this stupid-looking denim beanbag with an upper torso paraplegic indentation on it. I speak through my drugged state: “This is all well and good except I have no legs. It’s really quite a show you put on. Is it okay to be awake?” They assured me it was okay to get more lucid. My voice was all gravely, so I asked Rox if they’d hooked up my vocal chords wrong. She said probably not. She said they’d checked all my fillings, and given me a whole new set of skin, because the old skin on my arms had gotten old and grey. They held up a mirror to my face. It was powder white with light brown crevices. Truly disgusting. I imagined my cool brand-name tattoo in light purple. They assured me it was very cool looking. I realized that I wasn’t a male right then and missed my bottom half. Then I woke up, laughing as I realized it was a dream. My God!

Preceding this was Banana House as a big wooden warehouse. It used to be a restaurant, I think. Rebecca and I lived upstairs, like in the last dream. Josh and I were throwing a lot of food around, up and down the balcony. Will was there, and everyone was drinking or on drugs. The previous scene came right outta here, somehow. Perhaps from Rebecca and my room. . . . SO WEIRD!

The Tower: The balconies are a very common feature of one version of the Tower. It’s plush, with red carpet and huge stairs and balconies and very rich. I had many adventures on these balconies. There is a common theme of being drugged and really out of my mind. Both the Banana House and surgery scenes both seemed to take place in the Tower.

How is this the Tower if it doesn’t look like the Tower? There’s a feel to it, a shape to it, a challenge, and it’s often at the same time of night, around 3 AM — 4 AM.

Never Trust Doctors: Never trust doctors in dreams. First, you don’t need them because your body is a projection. Second, they will do horrible things to you. Every. Time.
