Mazes and Scorpions
October 20, 1996
The Ancient Maze

Context: I had seen a wild scorpion earlier.

Rebecca and I just arrived at her Nana’s last night, and I saw my first live scorpion. Thus:

I dream of scorpions! The majority of this dream was my Blaine House room with the waterbed and closet. Someone had infested my room with scorpions! It started with just one, then there were more and more. I squashed the first one, then started cutting the others in half with a scissors which made some freak out and go crazy. There was a huge king and queen scorpion in my bed and thousands of little baby ones all over it. I was scared of them, but someone else was helping me to snip them up and throw them away. Downstairs it was more like Banana House and another, better place. There was a big party we were hosting and we had a pool. There were people getting naked and such craziness.

A smaller tower? Near the tower?

The mazes! I’ve been here many times. It’s a deeper spiritual place, where angles are steeper, and there’s a hill with a tower reminiscent of The Tower, but much smaller. On top of the left hill is a crazy maze of dark, murky stone. I’ve been there many times before and had such fun exploring and trying to find out its secrets. On the top level are three rooms where the brickwork allows you to see inside. Getting to one of them is easy, one is medium, and one is very hard. There are many tunnels below, and possibly a river. One place is an upraised circular platform whose stonework floor has one loose stone which you can remove and that’s how you go onward — into that hole.

The dream was of a younger me, it seemed, or maybe it was just that I had lots of high school friends around. We were looking for a flashlight. I made one work. The Beeb grabbed it and was flipping it on and off a lot. So I took it back. Oh! There were two young fellows that had found their way to the back wall corridor and I asked them to show me how they got there and they said they would but I never saw them again. I sense that these are passages to other dream locations.

References: The Beeb was a frenemy in high school.

Multiplaces and Multipeople: In the same way people can have many names attached to them, a place may be a conglomeration of many places. Here my room in Blaine House was attached to Banana House.

Endless Scorpions: The shock of seeing a wild scorpion in waking life made it a topic in my dreams. It started with just one, but then my fear projected many more into existence.

The Maze: Here I find a maze on a hill near the Tower (or a tower). This is the kind of maze-like passages and secret doors of the Catacombs, and even here I suspected that these passages led to different dream locations.
